Lipton sales will be up lol. The problem is that they're protesting stuff thats already passed, and any widespread effects will be muted by the fringe inside this movement threatening armed revolution as part of it.

Hey, if you're a fiscal conservative and pissed off, you have to start somewhere. Where else can you go? Bobby Jindal's office, lol?

I'm fiscally conservative but I can't possibly attend anything labelled a "tea party".

Touche lol. The quiet sanity of Jon Huntsman?
I understand the motives behind the tea parties, but its been taken over by wackos(the Obama birthers are big in this movement) and whether you agree with it or not, it's cognitive dissonance to protest a bill that provides a tax cut for a vast majority of Americans(not defending the tax cut, just pointing out a salient fact). It would also help if they googled "Teabagging" so they avoid sounding dirty lol.

Sullivan has a good post on these parties:
Link (http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2009/04/time-for-tea.html)
As a fiscal conservative who actually believed in those principles when the Republicans were in power, I guess I should be happy at this phenomenon. And I would be if it had any intellectual honesty, any positive proposals, and any recognizable point. What it looks like to me is some kind of amorphous, generalized rage on the part of those who were used to running the country and now don't feel part of the culture at all. But the only word for that is: tantrum.
These are not tea-parties. They are tea-tantrums. And the adolescent, unserious hysteria is a function not of a movement regrouping and refinding itself. It's a function of a movement's intellectual collapse and a party's fast-accelerating nervous breakdown.

and not to belabor the point but the original tea party as as much about tazation without representation and overseas parliament imposing their will on the colonies rather then the level of tax. And the fact that the actual income tax for 90% of americans are going down in effect these tea parties are protesting the tax increases on most well off. Where tea taxes actually hurt the lower class.
I find it all to be pretty juvenile, as juvenile as peace rallies at your local federal building against the school of the americas.

It was likely as much about that troublemaker Sam Adams looking to incite a revolution so he didn't have to pay back British loans as anything so noble as "taxation without representation". ;)

you want to back up your claim that income taxes on 90 % of Americans are going DOWN ???? are you speaking about under Reagan or Bush ??
because they sure didnt go down under Clinton.. they went up. his promise of a middle class tax cut disappeared in the first 6 months of his first term..
kind of the same way the Team Obama is now backing off the talk of "middle class" tax cuts.. there is simply NO WAY he can implement any of his health care proposals without increasing taxes-- or running multi trillion dollar deficits into the next millenium..

Shally would you like to back up your claims of them going up without suppositon? I can point to the numerous official plans Obama has put in place where 90% of the population base see either no increase or a cut. There is definitely a tax hike coming, but it is a reveral of the Bush tacx cuts on the top 10%. You want to argue or not argue the merits of that, fine. But the far reaching majority of Americans are not seeing a tax increase and are likely getting a decrease in income taxes. Now the states and re raising their income taxes and "fees" but that is not Obama
s problem and it definitely is not what these idiots who are protesting at the tea party are mad about. Sullivan put it best above. They are mad that we, the left, won the election and the rest of the country believes the right has no ideas....because htye don't. Instead of reorganizing and focusing on internal issues they rather have a protest. They are as bad as the Nader voters whoi truly believe there is no difference between a dem in the WH or a repub and just can't believe the rest of america thinks they are nuts.

leave off the top 10 %, because they are going to pay more tax.. that is not the issue here
dont obfuscate the issue:
NOBODY who earns over 30,000 is going to see one dollar less of income tax
under Obama.
i dont care WHAT is put out as propaganda, there will be NO TAX cuts on income tax, payroll taxes, social security taxes, medicare taxes for ANYONE making over 30,000 a year
the campaign promise was a TAX CUT for all but the highest earners..that will never happen. YOU know it wont happen. it is all BULL****.. that is where all those numerous plans you talk about are going to turn out to be nothing more than empty promises..
the question is whether things stay the same, or the TAX INCREASES start.
you cant tax your way out of a recession, but as soon as things start to turn around ( and just yesterday Obama was saying how things are easing a bit)
they will need to find a way to pay for the health care initiatives that are coming.. you want to tell me how he will pay for that except by raising taxes ??
that is when the bills are going to start to come due and "reluctantly" taxes will be raised...it is simply math. you have to find a way to pay for what you want...

so you want me to leave out the whole point of my post? The top 10 percent is the issue because they are the only ones looking at significant tax increases under all the plans i read. Menaing these "tea parties" are once again petulant rants by those who have more trying to convince the common man they are all in the same boat, when they are not. Sorry Shally I wont play your straw man argument, you cant pick and choose what part of my point to debate.

I'm not gong to a tea party but being a right wing nut job libertarian I know a few who are. It seems a little silly to me but I'm glad they are doing somthing.
The tax increase comments earlier don't make much sense to me. There is only 2 ways to pay for all this spending raise taxes maybe on income but it can be raised in other places or increase the money supply which will cause more inflation which is a tax increase on everyone. One way or another everyone is going to have to pay. Some will benefit but imo most won't.
reason.tv has a great video on the scope of the spending http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yREOUxo6Qdc
I don't see how any of this can be paid for without tax increases or inflation.

of course i can pick and choose.. you do it.. everyone here does.. sorry, if you dont like my picking on what is obviously not accurate
i dont think very many people care any more what happens to the folks inthe highest income strata.. they got a pass under Bush. they wont under Obama.
BUT
that wont even begin to pay for child care for every child, expansion of health care for all (in increments) and a continuing prescription drug benefit program.
the "savings" from digitizing health care records is going to evaporate and wont pay for squat.
obama will either have to abandon his plan, pay for it with tax increases, or run deficits out forever.. which will it be ??

If you throw in the spending for Iraq/Afghanistan(which Bush never put in his budgets), this budget is actually smaller than Bush's final ones. Obama's probably going to raise the cap gains tax back to where it was during the Clinton years, and raise the marginal tax rate back to where it was for the Clinton years, but that seems the extent of any tax increases.

i selected that figure arbitrarily, because below that level, real poverty begins in this country.. what i say, and i believe to my core, is that NOBODY inthe middle class, no matter how you define it, will see any tax reductions under obama.. wont happen...
they are already backing away from the promise of tax reductions because of the financial crisis. i fit doesnt happen inthe first year, it wont happen at all..

to whom ?
what marginal tax rates were reduced ?
what payroll taxes were reduced ?
what soc security or medicare taxes were reduced ?
i can tell you with absolute certainty that ALL the taxes i personally pay (real estate, sales, payroll deductions, medicare, SS, federal of all kinds) not one of them has gone down..
i dont have any capital gains of any kind..
so, again, where are the tax reductions ? (other than the Alt Min Tax which was finessed for yet another year)
and as far a reductions in the budget, if Obama cranks up the war in afghanistan, there will go the savings for the defense budget items..

Knock yourself out lol:

400 dollar tax credit for individual filers, 800 for couples. Sundowns at 75,000 and 150k. Payroll tax credits for small businesses. And on and on and on to the tune of a 300 billion dollar tax cut. Biggest single tax cut ever.
and as far a reductions in the budget, if Obama cranks up the war in afghanistan, there will go the savings for the defense budget items..
We would have to increase our commitment by 5 times the cost before it would wreck any budgets(We've only spent 170 billion in Afghanistan since 2001, which is a lot but not compared to Iraq), but the Iraq costs will start going down this year.

what a steaming pile of opaque dog-s*** !!
gotta buy a house (for the first time) be unemployed, have worked on a railroad, bought the correct type of car, using COBRA provisions, take some kind of public transporation.... etc... totally nanny state social engineering
agree about the payroll reduction. and although i will not qualify for it (my wife and i together make over 150 K) 400-800 is something.. so, I STAND CORRECTED, and some people will get a small amount of tax reduction.
how much it is, i guess, is dependent upon what your overall situation is, and at least for now, i dont see evidence of rising taxes. (although at the state level they are talking about big time increases in a lot of fees, etc)
i will shut up and go back to my nap until something else roils me up..lol

In order for it to be a movement it needs focus, not just random complaining about Obama's policies. And the really over the top signs need to stop also, otherwise it will be dismissed by 95% of the country.
