Dear IRS,
I'm afraid I'm going to have to accidently forget to pay my taxes this year. But dont worry...I will suddenly remember, and pay them, if the president ever appoints me to a cabinet position. regards VSF :readme:
happy tax day everyone

Unfortunately I cant take the credit...i got it from a cartoon. I posted it for the humor not as a slam against the president per se.

if you are a pol you get a pat onthe back... otherwise, they will confiscate every thing you own and send you to jail...

there is ALWAYS more to be paid...
i mailed mine in this afternoon. we'll be getting a pretty healthy check back thanks to buying the house and moving expenses. unfortunately our housing "credit" has to be repaid, but with law school looming next fall, we figured it was a good deal to take what amounts to an interest free loan.

repaid? Is this the Obama plan or a Texas only thing? the DC credit I received a few years ago was just that - a credit. You're eligible (no not you members of Congress) for it every 3 years too if you buy new property so I guess I may have to move again soon.

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor,
Tax his mule,
Teach him taxes
Are the rule.
Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.
Tax his ties,
Tax his shirt,
Tax his work,
Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think.
Tax his cigars,
Tax his beers,
If he cries, then
Tax his tears.
Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass
Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers,
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin ,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.
Put these words
upon his tomb,
" Taxes drove me to my doom..."
When he's gone,
Do not relax,
Its time to apply
The inheritance tax.

it's the $7500 tax credit included in the housing bill from last summer. the ways and means committee needed votes, so they (both sides) sold it as a credit for anyone that bought a house between april 1, 2008 (i think) and june 2009. unfortunately they didn't give the language for the entire housing bill out until a couple hours before the vote and no one caught that it had to be repaid $500 bucks a tax year starting 2 years after it's taken (so for the 2010 tax filing for us). early drafts of the stimulus changed it to a true credit like the one for new homebuyers, but the final version didn't include the retroactive language, so it ended up being just for the folks that closed after the stimulus was signed. sucks for us, but it's not the end of the world. helps us get through the next 4 years. we're basically sticking it in its own account and if we don't need it, we'll pay it all back when i graduate.

Interest free loan is the right way to look at it then ... can still be helpful but could also be dangerous. People could overextend themselves based on this "credit" and assume the equity on their homes could help pay it back ... that sound familiar, lol?

ha, yeah. that's basically the way it's set up...if you sell your house for profit, the profit pays back what's left so you end up not gaining much of anything. i'm pretty sure, though, that if you sell for a loss then the loan is forgiven. if we get close to time to sell and the values haven't gone up, we may list it 100 bucks shy of what we paid just to save the payback ;)

you got balls my friend to post that in the "Dear IRS" thread, lol

ha! good point. i can do it because i know it won't happen. the town we moved into is growing faster than the city or builders can keep up. a house down the street from us that's essentially the same house sold for 15K more than we paid, so barring something stupid happening, we're going to end up making a profit and then moving further west.
