that's perry trying to win a primary. which he probably will because the crazies are the only ones that vote in primaries (for the most part).

i saw a poll this morning that said 75% of Texans think secession is a stupid idea. i'm a little suprised it's that high, actually.

If anyone had a groundswell for secession, I would figure it to be California. Then again, South Carolina is always up for a good secession. In fact, I think they're still technically not back in the Union, lol.

I say we let them succeed and then conquer them. Then we can call them a territory with zero meaningful representation in the FED.

Do they really have that much oil still? To listen to some people, America has no oil left and bringing up what we do have will immediately exterminate the entire polar bear species, lol.

What is Texas' biggest contribution, economically these days? Is oil still the big ticket?

BurgundyNGold , hi !
i'm not sure how much oil we have left. i guess it depends on who you listen to.
apparently, some folks have an issue with allowing drilling where there is oil. i appreciate that.
however, we IMPORT a large % of our oil.
there are more than a few americans that like to drive SUV's, etc.
not too good on the mpg's.

oil and gas is still huge (midland/odessa boomed when oil prices skyrocketed) but we also have a TON of high tech firms based in austin and dfw has become a corporate hot spot as well. then you throw in all our ag industries and the groups like Lockheed, Bell Helicopter, and the other contractors and you've got a pretty good chunk of change coming in and out of TX. the only sector that's hurting in the state are the financial groups, and we have a lot of those. the texas economy has been seen a bit of a slowdown in the last year, but nowhere near the levels that other states have seen. our housing prices are still rising in most places and job loss hasn't been too bad.

It seems to me that we either need more oil or better fuel efficiency. I'd actually like to know from somewhere how much oil we actually have. I get the feeling that we're "holding out", so to speak.

So, what you're saying is that oil & gas still have a solid segment of the state GDP but that Texas has diversified rather well over the past 20 years?

~ ~ I'd actually like to know from somewhere how much oil we actually have. ---> depends on who you ask.

~ ~ I get the feeling that we're "holding out", so to speak. --> some folks will fight pretty hard to keep us from drilling where the oil is.
