That when we beat the Jets, the word in the media was that they were without Pennington. When the Cowboys beat the Jets then the Tuna is really turnning things around in Dallas.
When we beat the Falcons, it's because they were without Vick but when the Panthers and Bucs beat them, they get great complements for doing so.

Just shows you how the press feels about the talent in Dallas . . . and the FO in Washington

Making the play-offs is the only real revenge. Otherwise that's what you get - slammed & snickered about.
Anyone hear Schlereth & Salsbury jump on the bandwagon & say they were wrong about Spurrier, his system will & is working, and that he is already one of the top 5 best offensive minds in the NFL?
Play-offs or bust

Uri, excellent post. You're right about the double standards. But like AZ and RedBeard said, once we make the playoffs, we'll get our due respect....

That's not where it stops either.
They said that the Giants were "overrated" and we still lost it,
and that the Pats had 9 injuries and we almost lost that game.
We have YET to get any respect.
But oddly enough, it doesn't bother me. Cause I see a good team on that field every week. We can hang with the best of them, and I'll be sure to say
"nah, nah, nah na nah!" come the end of the season when eveyone says, "I guess they weren't so bad afterall."
LONG LIVE THE SKINS!

Its because the Cowboys, Bucs, and Panthers all dominated the other team. We beat those teams by a combined 6 pts and blew a lead to the Jets and were being dominated for awhile by the Falcons. This isn't a prejudice when the Skins dominate a team they will get the same type of respect but thus far they haven't been able to play a entire game at there highest level.

Nobody deserves a lot of respect for beating the Jets or Falcons. Not us. Not anyone.

Well, they're right, although the first one was by a coin toss, and the second can be pinned on the decision to play a prevent defense so damn early. Everyone knows you just don't do that.

And the REALLY sorry thing is that a win for us Sunday will get us no more respect. It will be that Philly is falling apart or they were over-rated at the beginning of the year, or that they had too many injuries to overcome. Beating Tampa might open up some eyes!

As long as we win games, I could care less what they think or say. The Falcons were without Vick, who cares we won. The Jets lost alot of players then lost their starting QB, who cares we won. The Pats were missing 9 starters, who cares we won. I don't care how or why those people think we won, I'm just glad we won.

I like it this way. I'd prefer to have no respect. What's the fun in being THE MOST RESPECTED. You have no where to go but down. I'd rather always be able to move up on that ladder.

What we're talking about here is respect from the media and the fans of other teams. Why the hell should any of us care about that? I sure don't. One thing I've noticed is that you don't get anything of value for media and fan respect. Nothing. You don't get a home playoff game for that. The other teams don't have to spot you three points. You don't get to kick off from the 40 yard line instead of the 30 yard line. Nothing. A team gets nothing for media and fan respect.
So screw it. I don't worry for five seconds what ESPN or CBS Sportsline or the boys and girls over at the Philadelphia Eagles message board think of the Redskins. Nobody respected the 2001 New England Patriots either. Not until they won the Super Bowl, that is.

The idea is to win the competition on the field, not win the hearts and respect of sports writers.
Nobody respects the NJ Devils and they spent the summer with the Stanley Cup (again)!
Respect is overrated, I want wins.

all that matters at the end of the year are the Ws and Ls...no matter who beat who with which personnel, it's W-L record that makes all the difference. The Skins are currently sitting 3-1, meaning .500 ball the rest of the year would probably get us in the playoffs.
however, the rest of the season is no cake walk, Philly twice, Cowgirls twice, Tampa, Buffalo, Seattle, Carolina, Miami, G-men...the only 2 i have confidence in are Chicago and New Orleans...but the Saints game is no gimme either.
but, a W is a W, no matter how you get there...

I agree with everything said.
I don't CARE who respects us or or who doesn't. In fact...the more our opponents start buying into the media's non-respect for us, is when they take us lightley, and the Skins open up a big can of Whoopa$$ on them for dissrespecting our talent..and potential.

Have we done anything yet to earn respect? Our toughest game this year was a loss to a division rival. I think we should have beat them with our hands tied behind our backs, but we didn't. We need a W against the Iggles first, then 1 out of the next 2. Then we'll have a flat on the wagon from people piling on.

i kinda wish they wouldnt respect us right now and let us fly under the radar until we get to 15-1 (wishful thinking!). i do think it is funny how people are starting to bite out of ramsey and spurrier. after all the naysayers predicted us to be 4th in the division with no qb or running game, it just makes you want to laugh.....

but those naysayers are coming around and saying "he's got such great potential, and will be a great NFL qb."
All the negative on Ramsey QUICKLY dissolved.

Except for one bad quarter against NO last year Ramsey was very good. I wish he was in camp from day one. That might have made the difference in a game or two. 9-7 rather than 7-9 could have given us a wildcard spot. That was last year though, and the present and future is what I'm excited about.

That's some positive thinking...I don't remember watching a 7-9 team last year...I do recall watching a 5-11 team that happened to win 7 though.
This year it just seems to be coming together a lot better. Chemisty ESPECIALLY with the coaching staff is looking a lot better.
