Mort has put together a top five set of lists for the month of sept. Note that he has Champ as the defensive MVP.

Thanks for posting that. Mort's right. Champ is the defensive MVP so far this year. And he does it all without any help from the defensive line. I've been saying it for two years now: Champ is the best.

Champ also wants to be paid like the best. Good for him. That's what I'd want, too.

I'm not quite willing to crown him king of the defenders after that Giants game.

im not sure that champ is the best candidate for dmvp, but he certainly should be in the running. he is the reason we beat new england.

I think Champ deserves this honor and the money he wants. He played hurt this wek and seems to have played very well. If he had no heart or desire to be here he would have sat out with his injuries. He knows either way he is getting the franchise tag, but he is showing his toughness right now. I say don't wait another minute do what it takes to sign him

Glad to see the Skins getting some love ... everyone see Coles at #10 for O-MVP and Spurrier at #9 for coaches.

Interesting...that of the top 10 rookies he listed...only one was a DT. I remember the DTs dominating the first round of the draft.

Best Rookies
1. Ken Hamlin, S, Seahawks
2. Anquan Boldin, WR, Cardinals
3. Kevin Williams, DL, Vikings
4. Mike Doss, S, Colts
5. Andre Johnson, WR, Texans
6. Terrell Suggs, DE/LB, Ravens
7. Charles Rogers, WR, Lions
8. Nick Barnett, LB, Packers
9. Terence Newman, CB, Cowboys
10. Marcus Trufant, CB, Seahawks

Interesting - I would have thought the Patrick Ramsey would have gotten in the the Offensive MVP voting, hmmmm.

Champ - I don't buy it (yet).

D-linemen take a while to develop, usually, and many of them never justify their draft position. [Paging Kenard Lang!] Using a first round pick on a D-lineman is always a big risk. Unfortunately for the Redskins, I think it is a risk we have to take.

For sure, we probably wouldnt be in this position if we had drafted rein long instead of Jacobs.

I'll echo this. Give the man what he wants. He's irreplaceable. Its pure BS logic to even think that 2 first round picks (in the event of a franchise tag situation) would equal Champ's production as the premiere cornerback in the league. The draft is such a crapshoot as everyone should know. Champ will surely stay if A) the money is right B) this team actually transitions from paper tiger to real tiger this year.

It's good except when did you hear him say he wants to stay or even like to be a Redskin for the next 4-5 years. I like Champ BUT I only want him here IF he WANTS to be here - BOTTOMLINE.

Well, he's under contract now and playing hurt. His desire as a Skin is displayed each and every week on the field. That's all I'm focusing on for now. We'll know he wants to be here longer when he signs a fair offer if one is presented to him.

Well...a fair offer was presented to him. One that would make him the highest paid CB in the league. If he didn't like the clause that didn't guarantee him bonus money over the 2nd half of the term, then he should have counter-offered. However, I think Champ is looking for a much HIGHER offer. If that is the case, I'm not sure how much higher our FO can go.

I hate to see negotiations get put on hold. It puts everyone at risk if Champ suffers a career ending injury this season.
