Apparently his health is the cause. Even more reason to pull for these young receivers step up.

Thanks James for your time with the team. Good luck in the future.

I think this was another one of those decisions that needed to be made for the good of the team to force others to step up. I like the direction we are heading. I hope we continue to make decisions for the betterment of the team. This move is of course in stark contrast to the resigning of Wynn and bringing Daniels back.

He is a fighter...so for him to leave based on injury means he is in real pain.

I wish him a speedy recovery. He was never the best WR on the field for us...but he was always a clutch catch away from setting up a score or advancing the chains in a crucial situation.

Best of luck, James!

Good guy, hard worker, glad to have had him as a Redskin. He'll continue to be a positive fixture in this community in his post playing days.

To me this is a big loss. Some of the younger guys could learn a lot from a guy like Thrash. Never should have let him go to the iggles.

I wish he was not in pain but I rather see him go this way then a training camp cut.

I am sorry for his injury, but I am happy he's gone. He should have been cut last year and his best days as a player have long since passed.

Now if we can get rid of Rock Cartwright and Ladell Betts, I will be extra happy.

And before anyone wants to talk about Rock's production on kickoffs, please bear in mind that the league has banned the blocking wedge. Running hard to the wedge is no longer going to be an effective strategy. The KR needs to be explosive.

I agree with you about Rock, and add this, who cares about his production, he never had the explosion to break em, even if he got through. I think anyone can find a player to return kicks as effectively as Rock does. Come on Dorsey or someone else.

Thrash though was good on ST and I wish we had more guys who worked like he did.

A good, solid player for a long time, who definitely made more than his share of contributions to the team over the years. I loved that play against Dallas last year when he was in motion, got Newman all tripped up, and caught the touchdown.

Thankfully, it looks like Kelly held up fine through the OTA's and wasn't limited at all that I know of. It goes without saying that we'll need him to step up.

The Roydell Williams addition was also an underrated move, in my opinion, and looks even better now.

But I digress.

Thanks for all the hard work, Thrash.

Thanks for your time as a Redskin, Thrash. A hard worker, who's work ethic these other WRs need to emulate. I wish he wasn't in pain, and I wish him a full and healthy recovery.

Thrash is a true Redskin, a guy who could be counted on to give everything he had in the weight room, in practice and in games. He maximized his talent. I wish we had used him more the last couple of years as a punt returner instead of Randle-El.

I wish him a full and speedy recovery from his neck woes and all the best. A true Redskin and a class guy.

BTW, we have to cut another guy to keep our roster at 80. It is going to be the long snapper Jeremy Cain, which means that Ethan Albright is going to be our long snapper again this year. We will have to cut a player for every other draftee we sign.

Albright is 38, he can't play forever, but hopefully he can play that position for a few more years. He is money in the bank.

Skins7ny
06-12-2009, 01:46 PM
Actually, that is mistake on my part, we were at 79 players when we signed LB Cody Glenn and FB Eddie Williams, so cutting Thrash puts us at 80. I forgot that when we cut Jansen, we didn't sign anyone to take his place on the roster. My bad.

You couldn't for a better representative for your team. A solid fill-in guy, and an incredibley hard worker. I'm happy that he was a Redskin, and I hope he remains with the club in some fashion.

I vaguely remember, a very long time ago, watching a preseason game and Thrash was a rookie free agent returning kicks, and a long shot to make the team.

He took his first kick back a long ways, I think for a touchdown, and I thought this guy might be something.

The next kick he also returned a long distance, and I was a Thrash fan from then on.

It is sad to see him go.

I liked Thrash for a long time. He was a good role player. But now that he's gone maybe we can get a real WR to take his spot. Next on the list, finding some way to get rid of EL.

Health and happiness to Thrash in his post playing career. The battle for the #5 receiver spot should be fun to watch. There were a few guys getting good pub during OTA's.

To me, Thrash is easily replaceable as a WR. His most worthy contributions were on special teams--especially as the backup punt returner. He was money when it came to fielding punts. I don't recall a single muff his entire career here.

Now, that open up a spot for someone (Eloi? Dorsey?) who can field punts cleanly and perhaps even take one back now and then.

Jansen and Thrash were both leaders for the offense. Hopefully some new guys step and take this role. If I recall...it was Thrash who spoke at Taylor's funeral and really was instrumental in helping many of them heal from a spiritual perspective.

I hope JT is not in pain. He was a good player, not great. He was consistent which is a comment on one quality this team needs. I hope he is successful in life. He was a class act.

I read that Danny left the door open for him to work with the team in some capacity. I hope that was more than blowing smoke.

I hope so! Its very possible that he understood Zorn's WCO better than any other receiver on our roster....

Agree about Cartwright, though the loss of Thrash may actually enhance his chances for making the team because of special teams (losing Thrash, Cartwright, and K Campbell would hurt). While I'm not a big Betts fan, he still is the 2nd best running back on the roster, so he is a lock to make the team barring injury.

It became obvious last year that Thrash's days as a productive NFL WR were behind him, so I expected this. What is a shame is that he couldn't have gone out on his own terms. To retire and be able to say "i've had enough" would have been fitting. Pretty decent career for a UDFA.

I would like to thank James for his service as a Redskin and to the NFL. He was a true professional both on and off the field. The NFL would be a better place if more players followed his example. Best of luck in your future endeavors, James.

I wish Thrash well. He was a real journeyman who was a master ST player and a clutch WR. I hated it when Shotty let him go to Philly. James was a team leader, very good locker room influence, a quiet guy and a workout monster. The young guys could learn a lot from him.

Zorn continues to keep the youth movement going. Washington, Jansen, Thrash are gone so far. I think there will be some more as at least a couple UDFA, low FA or draft picks actually make this team. May the best players win.

Good luck Jim Thrash.

What makes you say this?

R. Williams has proven that he's capable of being producing at the NFL level. Whether or not he will be with us is anybody's guess, but it wouldn't be shocking at all if he proves to be more valuable than Thomas or Kelly for this year.

Now, if Kelly's knee really is good to go, I think he's the most likely true #2 receiver behind Moss. But, if Kelly's hurt, Williams could potentially do very good things for us. Not saying it'll play out that way, but wouldn't be surprising to me, either.

i am no fan of hixon, but it takes time to make a solid assistant coach.. guys like grimm and ray brown have had to work their way up.. so would thrash.. at best he would be an assistant quality control coach for offense starting out..
just because a guy was a solid veteran player, doesnt mean he will instantly be a solid assistant coach.

look what pathway zorn had to follow.. holmgren wouldnt even hire him until he had gotten experience at the college level
