Of course, there was the horrible accident last week. Then on Thursday they found a freaking cracked rail between Grosvenor and Friendship Heights that force all traffic onto a single track. Now, someone gets hit by a train at Forest Glen.
Metro Train Strikes Person at Forest Glen Station
5 p.m. update:Metro reports a man was struck and killed by a Red Line train at Forest Glen this afternoon. The transit authority said it appeared the man was on the tracks deliberately.
Trains are sharing a single track between Forest Glen and Silver Spring. Single-tracking is likely to continue through the rush period.
The incident, at about 4:10 p.m., involved an uncrowded, eight-car Red Line train heading downtown. The passengers were able to evacuate the train by with the assistance of Metro employees. Other trains then began sharing the track around the stopped train.

WTH is wrong with Metro? When they are given so much money from the Federal government, WMATA (DC, MD, VA) and have ridership fees that are more expensive than either NY or Boston (with the nation's 2nd largest ridership), how can they not take care of the fundamentals of transit safety?!

You can almost consider yourselves lucky...over here, a train exploded early this morning in a station in Viareggio, causing 13 dead (at this point), numerous injuries, and even a few buildings to collapse.
Terrible stuff. You ask yourself how things like this can happen.

Yeah, and I don't hold the regional rails responsible for some idiot on the tracks. There are better ways to off yourself.... Just ask Carradine.

Honest question. How is this the Metros fault? If the guy was on the tracks deliberately I can't see how its Metros fault. Then again, I don't know the day to day runnings either.

As I said, the other part of the problem is people. If you elect to be in an unauthorized area that is deemed to dangerous and end up getting hit by a train - it's not Metro's fault. But then again - ALL safe guards must be in place.

Metro continues its stellar record of unparalleled awesome:
Door Opens on Moving Metro Train
A door apparently opened on a moving Metro train Monday during rush hour, a Metro official confirmed late Monday.
Between the Federal Center SW and L'Enfant Plaza stations, on an Orange Line train heading toward Vienna, a customer alerted the operator that a single door had come open, according to spokesman Steven Taubenkibel. The train operator took the train out of service at L'Enfant Plaza. There were no injuries, he said, and an investigation into what happened is underway.

Geesh. I'm pretty sure I would not have taken my job if I knew that getting to and from work would be safer in an asbestos removal truck.

And... another person hit by a Metro train. This one on the orange line in West Falls Chuch.

This a day after they fired a train operator for failing a drug test and driving a train with to many cars into the Greenbelt station.
