I know Marvin Lewis didn't use a spy on McNabb. Will George Edwards? If so, I hope its Lavar.

Interesting question - ML didn't do it last year and we got torched. Now this year's defensive line is NOT as good as last year which means even less pressure. Do we release Larva - hmmmm - I think we let him continue to do what he has been doing - keying in on the ball whether its the QB or RB.

LaVar was the spy when RR was defensive coordinator.

Ummm, i believe a game two years ago, McNabb was spied by Arrington and had maybe 23 yards rushing. Next time we played them they did not use Arrignton as a spy and McNabb killed us. I think I am remebering this correctly. They must have a plan to stop McNabb's legs from killing us.

I think Arrington was out w/ an injury the 2nd time.

I would like to see really good contain pressure by the ends, and run blitz packages up the middle.

Sounds like a great plan if it can be executed.

I have that game on tape. It was Marty Shottenheimer's brother who was the D-coordinator. LaVar "spied" the whole game and McNabb couldn't do squat. We won....IN PHILLY.......13-3.

Yes, thank you. Marty's year. But it seem the next time we played them, Lavar did not spy and McNabb had us for dinner.

It will eb interesting to say the least how Edwards appraoches McNabb.

One quick question fro everyone, we all discussed here and wiotnesses in the last pre-season game how well Lionel Dalton played. The man clogged the middle, made good plays. Yet, during the season here, i really have not heard much of him. I believe two of the games he was even inactive. Thoughts on dalton?

What the hell is "Spying"? Please educate

Found this nice article in my Game Day program on LaVar:

"...Lewis frequently used Arrington as a def end in order to maximize his ability as a speed rusher. It was a role that Arrington admits he never felt totaly comfortable with, despite the high sack output."

If my info is correct McNabb has been sacked just about as many times as Ramsey 13 vs. 15. I think LaVar can get it done this week.

Spying is having a defender not engage anyone on the field but the QB. The spy will sit around the line and move to contain mcnabb from getting outside the pocket and picking up yardage running. The spys responsibility is to watch the qb.

Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

Never heard it called this in all my 37 years, but I've seen it.
Yes, LaVar is the right man

Can anyone imagine how many sacks lavar would have if belicek (sp?) were here coaching the defense? I'm waiting for Lavar to start to dominate games by himself. He should be the defensive MVP for the league.

Spying definitely has it's advantages... with Lavar keeping McNabb in check it COULD deflate the Eagles just like two years ago. Unfortunately, it also has it's downside. A smart Coach (like Andy Reid) can effectively take a great player out of the game with some smart play calling. A screen pass or two thrown at the right time and we are hurting.

Exactly Right!!!! AND two year's ago when we won 13-3 and Lavar primary responsiblity was to assume the spy roll - we have THAT same Defense ........... UMMMM - Me thinks NOT!!!!! Put him on the ball!!! Make him the monster!
