it's good that he has a chip on his shoulder.. let's see if he plays the entire season as though he does...

Haynesworth is gonna be a problem for the NFC East. we haven't had a big strong max impact guy in the d tackle ever. Griff at his best was good but this guy is outstanding and his work ethic says alot. He could make names of guys here who haven't made names for themselves. Carter could re-emerge, Orakpo. He could take us to the next level as a team. A strong d tackle reverberates through the whole team in the impact he can make.

Wow, the Titans could have had him at $27 million in the first 3 years of a contract on par with Tommie Harris! I don't know that he's worth $41 million, but he's definitely worth 27. Titans screwed the pooch on this one.
FYI -- Just reading the article and the lovely picture, I have to say that I'd never do anything to make this guy angry. He ain't no teddy bear.

Dave Butz and those that saw him might differ on that.

if Butz had ever gone near the weightroom he likely would have been the greatest defensive tackle to ever play the game.. he did it all on natural strength

Weight rooms in those days probably did not have the crowds it does these days? He was a royal pain for offensive lines. You sure can make a case for him being dominant for several years.
I wonder what he is up to? You don't really hear much about him.

as far as i know, he is still alive and kicking.. and i believe it is correct that few football players used the weight rooms.. in the recent book i read about the 58 colts/giants game, most of the linemen did little except eat and drink.. training camp was for the purpose of getting these guys into shape.. times were VERY different then..

41 million guaranteed is a lot of money. But, pro athletes are known for spending beyond their means. Hopefully, Albert will have a nice nest egg when he is done playing and not end up penniless like Mike Tyson and Joe Louis.

boxers are the worst that way.. very few end up with anything after their careers, except brain damage.... joe frazier and larry holmes are a couple of the rare ones who, i believe, did okay financially..

he also tore up one of his knees badly..this was early in his career and was before the modern age of sports medicine.. it likely limited his lateral movement badly over the years. opponents knew what he was going to do, and yet, he still was a force in most games

Massive linemen in the NFL east = more dings and more than 3 games missed? I sure hope not.

he will be rotated by Blache.. that much is certain.. by history, i would expect him to miss a game here and there.. it is the nature of the position.

Tell me this guy isn't going to change our whole defensive line. IF Blache lets him use his talent our DL will have gone from our biggest weakness to our best strengths. He'll be double-teamed which means that all the others will get to move in.
The only way AH isn't a monster player on this team is if Greg Blache holds him back with his uber-restrictive schemes. I think Blache will open this up and turn this DL in a pass rushing machine.

+1. Exactly. Even stone-handed guys like Rogers will get some interceptions!

Trust me I lived and cheered through the whole Butz era he was a beast sometimes a particular Cowboy game comes to mind but he's no Haynesworth didn't have that sorta impact. But he was a tremendous player.

No - but he has said that he would like to be compared along the same lines as Reggie when his career is done. That makes me happy because he's got a lot of work to do to get to that status.

Well put. Couldn't agree more. Reggie White and LT are the most dominant defenders I have seen in my 31 years of living. If AH's dominance ever justifiably draws comparison to White then we are in very good hands, b/c as you say he has a long way to go to even be mentioned in that class.

The White comparisons are laughable in my mind. I just hope that when it is said and done, we are not dealing with a return on investment similar to Stubblefield.

I don't think so. It's unfortunate that we've had so many Stubblefields and washed up stars on this team, so much so that we can't see a real football player when he's standing in front of us. Football is a game of violence and it requires players with a seriously nasty streak to them. If we had 3 other defensive lineman with his attitude the skins would be very dangerous. I'm actually not saying he's White but he does remind me alot of White. Of course, since he signed such a hefty contract he'll never be able live up expectations or comparisons. Nevertheless, I'm very happy to have AH on this team and don't think he'll be a bust.

I am no Haynesworth expert nor do I do very good at ranking those that are very very good, one above the other. What I was responding to was the comment that we have never had a dominating DT. Butz was one and you could make a case he upped the play of the others on the line for the exact same reasons Haynesworth is expected to do.

Uhh... Tyson is clearly in no one's poor house. If you're speaking in terms of the hundreds of millions wasted, or rather stolen by Don King, you're on to something. But as long as Tyson is building mansions in AZ and NV, I wouldn't consider him close to broke.

I don't think he'll be a bust either, but comparing him to a guy who is in the conversation for best defender of all time is a stretch. Can AH have an impact? Sure... But will he even play 13 games? I don't know... I'd definitely bet the under if I had to drop my own coin.
Its easy to forget just how amazing Reggie was...

AH is definitely closer to Stubblefield that White, but I respect the acknowledgement of his POTENTIAL and physical ability. I'm really trying NOT to be pessimistic, but it feels like another Skins blunder to spend that kind of coin for one guy at the expense of upgrading other positions.
