Excellent news...and quick work on the part of the FO.
I'm starting to get a little worried about the Orakpo signing; there's been so little movement among the first round draft picks.

could be just me but there seems to be quite alot of excitement about the jarmon kid from Redskins park.
Not a bad gig for the kid if he basically redshirts for us this season at least he gets paid.

the first round signings are moving really slow this year for some reason. i think in recent years the only 1st rounder we had in camp on time is sean taylor, cant remember where i read that though, and havent checked for it myself...

I'm not excited but more intrigued. But I sense some excitement from skins management. I qualify as excited to see what Orakpo can do.

based on Zorn's and Vinny's comments. I hope he gets a shot this season though.

It is a really nice switch huh. The really good thing, and i think Vinny mentioned it was that Jarmon, being signed now as opposed to possible next draft..gives him a full season to grow and learn from wynn/daniels. I dont see blache starting jarmon...but i think the situation is best for him and the team. If Ahk is correct in thinking Carter maybe be gone in a year(?) Jarmom and Orakpo is a nice young set of ends. On a side note...decent interview with phillip daniels on the team site...except for the part where he says he feels he can play until he is 40 haha. GO SKINS !!!!

daniels might end up being another ray brown.. he sure takes care of his body..
actually, he might be more like jumpy geathers who provided some good
spot play for us late in his career..

According to him he is stronger than he has every been and also mentioned that the year off last year actually was good for him at this age. I just want the best 53 we can put out on the field.

i have no problem keep one ancient warrior for spot duty, or as a mentor.. problem is if all your D line is older and getting brittle.. that is why adding Jarmon is such a good thing.
i have no doubt that Daniels is stronger than ever.. of course, he is probably SLOWER than ever also..lol

You mean there is a slower gear than "Park". haha maybe his goal is to use his strength to push the oline guy into the qb or rb. Just hoping for no injuries and a fun season.

Yea, Just like Jumpy Geathers only without the freak athleticism, the talent or the explosiveness. Other than those things, he is JUST LIKE Geathers.....

I didn't understand those comments at all. Despite what Zorn said they have to give him a real shot to play this season, after all they can't stash him on the PS.

i think if you put Daniels in the middle you would have a player very similar to geathers.. by the time we got jumpy, his knees where shot, but he might have been the strongest man in the nfl. he had ZERO explosiveness as a Redskin, and his athleticism was a distant memory of his days as a Saint... he had only one direction- forward.. and one speed- crawl.. but he was so strong, no one could keep him out forever.. sounds a lot like daniels to me ..

at least he has no "Reverse"..lol.. no one should be able to turn him or move him

Good job on both ends. Jarmon needs all the work he can get and kudos to both sides for working quickly to an agreement.

Loved that move he had, where he'd basically just lift the o-lineman up enough to lose his balance/footing n then just bulldoze him! lol

Actually, we had an open roster spot before we released Evans yesterday. With today's signing of Jarmon we have 79 players signed to the roster. When we sign Orakpo we will be at 80 without having to release any additional players.

We might need Daniels to play at least one more year beyond this one. If we shift Orakpo to DE full-time in 2010 to replace Wynn, we would need to draft somebody to replace Daniels. With only 5 picks, having already spent our 3rd on Jarmon, and with more pressing needs at OL and LB, we might need Daniels to hang on one more year. Especially if we do say goodbye to Carter next off-season. There is not likely going to be much on the FA market at the position.
If Daniels and/or Wynn get hurt this year, Jarmon might have to play whether Blache thinks he is ready or not!

he isnt slower, he is just being patient and containing the run ;)
on the real though, i think daniels can contribute to the team IF he stays healthy. maybe its in the back of his mind that the team has drafted his future replacement, could provide him some extra motivation(which you hope would rub off on jarmon). that being said, jarmon could learn a lot from guys like daniels and wynn. its good to have him in the fold this year to learn from guys like that. not perennial probowlers but they have had solid and long careers.
I'm glad he will be in on time. He has a lot of catching up to do.
yeah, he has a lot to catch up on. he wouldnt make a good impression on the team if he were a holdout. especially when the team is taking a chance on him with a future pick that could have been used on a player you had more time to scout. and its to his benefit to be in camp on time

If Orakpo shows promise in his role as a hybrid LB/DE i dont see that changing. the only way i see him playing fulltime DE is if he is making plays there but failing at LB. Wynn and Daniels play the same position(atleast since carter arrived), and both have played inside at DT at times. Carter plays a lot of snaps over on his side. i dont think ive heard which side orakpo is lining up at DE. with jarmons size, he will be groomed to replace daniels/wynn. if haynesworth does his job and eats up blockers and makes the rest of the DL around him better, guys like carter could stick around if he has a big season next to haynesworth(who would have to play like he has since he returned from the suspension for stomping gurode). while we do have needs at LB and OL, i can see us possibly trading up to get a QB if campbell doesnt stick around, then again that depends on a new CBA or not. if next year is uncapped; guys like campbell, rogers, mcintosh, montgomery, and golston can be tendered as restricted free agents. if it is extended then theyre all unrestricted free agents. the CBA issue opens up a lot of scenarios you wouldnt otherwise have. there may be a couple of in season extensions happening with those 5 players if it looks like an extension may happen. remember last time the start of the league year and free agency was pushed back while they worked out a last minute extension, i can see that happening again.

Good points. If Orakpo shows he can play LLB, you are right that we probably keep him there. If there is a new CBA, it will be interesting to see where we stand with the cap, and what we do with our players who are eligible. There is a lot of uncertainty this year, even more so than the normal uncertainty we have gotten used to under Snyder. This really seems like a crossroads year. Things could get solidified or we could go in a whole new direction next year.

I think Jarmon will play more than others think. I mean what are the chances that Wynn or Daniels won't get hurt or just rundown? Also, this kid had raw talent, mentorship from Daniels & AH; getting occassional rotations AND he'll be playing in a Dline with Haynesworth. With all that he's going to get through to the QB more than Wynn - a guy who gets only a couple sacks a year.
I think Jarmon will play solid and will surprise many as part of this powerful defense.
