so since Cooley is apparently our official backup punter, does this mean he'll be punting for the second half of our pre-season games? :D
Hope so...gotta save Hunter's leg :)

Joe Theismann can’t wait for Friday to come.
That is when his new once-a-week radio program, “The Joe Theismann Show,” will debut (albeit out of its normal time slot) on Friday from 8-10 a.m. and originate from Redskins Park. The program will then move to its regular Monday spot, from 8-10 a.m., throughout the Redskins season. He will be joined in-studio by ESPN 980 AM host Kevin Sheehan.
The former Redskins star-turned-restauranteur and broadcaster, said doing radio was something that really appealed to him. Even though the show is during the NFL season, he’s not afraid of other topics.
Theismann on doing his new show on ESPN 980 » “I really can’t wait to talk to callers and to discuss all areas of sports in Washington again. I know the show is primarily a Redskins show but I am ready to talk college football, major league baseball or even high school sports. I want callers to know that any topic is welcome.”
Theismann on possibly taking the once-a-week show to a five-days-a-week program » “Right now we will see how things go. I have many business commitments that require me to do a great deal of travel. I want to do the best show possible and that requires time. So we will see how things go once a week for now and after the season we will take it from there. They have many talented people at ESPN 980 AM and I will also be heard on their shows, as well as on the Redskins pregame show.”

good point
Working out with DG is one thing but it doesn't mean anything if it doesn't translate onto the field. After seeing Tryon last season, unless DG was generous enough to give him some of his genome so that Tryon could be genetically re-engineered with parts of him replaced with DG, I don't know that working out with God himself will help him. And what is DG going to say anyway? That the kid can't play lol?

tryon definitely has at least some of the skill set needed to play corner.. he lacks size, but he does have quickness.. from what i have read so far, i am encouraged.. let's see what happens starting this week

The only reasons DG could play corner was because he had 4.15/40 (some say as low as 4.09) speed and was still running a 4.2/40 at age 40 and 4.31-4.34/40 at age 45 -- all of these better than Tryon's best (4.41). Not to mention that Green had a surreal vertical leap of 38", I believe, compared to Tryon's 35" (which isn't too shabby, actually). And DG had a heart that would not quit.
Tryon is small but he's not even the fastest corner on the team. Hall has a faster 40 time. Carlos Rogers' best 40 time (4.36) is better than his. So is Kevin Barnes' (4.36). Right now, Tryon is a slot cover corner with meh speed. He doesn't have the size to play outside and may or may not have the speed. He's Rashad Bauman redux until he shows otherwise.

you might be right.. but every day, you read about him making a play or 2..
i think there were so many times last year when he was right with the receiver, but was a step slow.. if that is because of the mental aspect of the game, he can overcome that and will be making plays this season.. if it is all physical, he is going to remain a step slow and it will all go for nothing and he will be a bust
i do agree that his future seems to be as a slot corner.. but that is precisely what the skins need now..

Not big on judging a corners quality strictly on 40 time. Rogers was smoked ridiculously for a couple years till he got coached up and started gaining confidence.
DG giving him props says alot because I trust DG put in the work as a player and saw Tryon work. Tryon has talent and good speed and with some techinique stuff can be a real player possibly.
DG's stamp means the kid went to work. thats all you can really ask.

You forgot one very important thing about Green ..... he had A LOT of HEART and football smarts ...... thats something you simply can't discount. ............. I rather have a very smart CB with decent speed than the faster CB with nothing between the ears.

I mentioned his heart as the last sentence of the first paragraph. ;)
But you're correct in that it probably should have be the first sentence in any description of DG.

I can't take training camp fluff pieces seriously. Let's see him do it against the scrubs before we start believing he belongs in TC -- let alone on the active 53.

Yeah, well, I don't have selective memory like some folks this time of year. I remember him giving up a TD and a 50 yard bomb in the HOF game, flailing about like a winged albatross the whole time. And then, for good measure, coming back the next week and giving up 2 more TDs.
"Right there"? If he continues to play like that, he needs to be right somewhere else lol.
i do agree that his future seems to be as a slot corner.. but that is precisely what the skins need now..
Agreed.

Guys, guys, guys. DG was clearly misquoted.
What he really said was; "Tyron is good enough to wear a Redskins Starter jacket".

i consider every "this guy has worked really hard this offseason" article to be totally and completely meaningless. there are countless articles of that ilk every single offseason and i've never seen any correlation with that player's performance during the ensuing regular season. do we really have to run down ye olde list of training camp hall of famers like taylor jacobs, etc?
i'll look for him in the pre-season, but he looked utterly pathetic last year.

Interesting lo alexander is now a DE? Ahead depth wise of buzbee, jackson, & Jarmon?
and no one but thomas on there as KO returner? Pencil in rock for a roster spot again boys.
Agree that this is ridiculous, but after his "We contacted AH before midnight" gaffe do you expect lieniency for Rock out of Snyderatto?

I would imagine we'll get the same thing next year for the OL. Vinny will draft an OL and pick up a solid to top tier OL FA. Of course, JC and Zorn could be out the door and it would have benefited them to have that this year, but oh well.
Setting up a change the O and D, purge the roster, teach totally new techniques from coaches unfamiliar with the holdovers, etc. This is a 3-5 year plan, and considering who will be making that plan (IMHO no coach worth his salt will even consider the job) ...
Of course the league can make this a laughing stock by negotiating a new CBA with a cap, which will totally sc**w Snyderatto (and us - I shudder to think of the lost draft choices).

I expect that they did nothing to address the issue so they will be stuck with Rock, and I am one of rock's biggest supporters. I don;'t think Snyder cares about what players say until he wants an excuse to fire them. Lavar was loved for his free wheeling nature, until snyder wanted to release him and then he was maligned. You watch, it only turns when they want it to.

In the article DG guarantees that Tryon is a NFL ready CB - very strong words!

Didn't DG vouch that some RB who worked out with him a couple of years ago was NFL ready too? I can't recall who that was. Maybe that makes my point, lol.

Agree, but feel DG much more competent judge when the position is CB.

I hope DG is right. Nothing would make me happier than to have all of our draft picks stick because of merit and not because of some desire to avoid admitting a mistake. We have so few draft picks comparatively that we can ill afford have have them fail at even the same rate of teams witjh their full complement of picks. Indeed, because we have such few picks, we have to actually select *better* than those who have more picks if we just want to keep pace on youth infusion.
