from www.profootballtalk.com in their rumor mill section..John Runyan visited
Dr Andrews today and was given clearance to run, but NO CONTACT for at least 2 weeks.
also Philly shifted Shawn Andrews from R Tackle to Right Guard..
so, you really think the Skins are going to sign Runyan now and wait for 2 weeks while we go through preseason ? i dont.. i think we will muddle through for 2 more weeks and by then Philly (most likely) or some other team will sign Runyan
I just gotta wonder how he'll be able to respond at his age, with that long of a layoff coming off that type of surgery. It seems like he's a month or more away from being in condition and having the confidence in his knee from contributing and even then he might have set backs.

both he and Tauscher are not going to be realistic players until the season coming off surgery
maybe the front office just figures it will use the current time to try and develop the younger players we have and use one of them as a fallback option later ?
or, maybe our front office is just a bunch of dithering idiots ??

Ehhh, I'm not too upset if Runyon is not signed by us. At this point, I'm of the opinion that he's no better than Jansen would've been for us. And I just don't see this team picking up anyone at this point who could really make much of a contribution other than depth. We're stuck with what we have now, and may the Good Lord keep em healthy, or whoever is QB won't be for long! lol

in contrast to jansen, runyan has been a warhorse over the past decade.. this is potentially the first time down for injury during his career.
he is also a better pass blocker than jansen over the past 4-5 years overall

Agree re Runyon/Jansen, and am not concerned that he won't be ready week 1 (we held up for 8 games last year with Jansen). But Philly is much more prefered if I'm Runyon - absolute minimum change, maximum comfort. IMO it's too late to consider Runyon.

jones isnt healthy all the time.. before this offseason runyan has missed no games over many seasons..

Doesn't that go out the window once age becomes a factor? Healing takes longer and regaining once held abilities may be deemed fruitless considering that there's a natural decline in performance added onto the fact that he's coming off of a serious knee injury.
Here's my solution: Leviiiiii Joooonnnesss! He's gotta be better than what we have, which is tantamount to nothing.

Runyan was a beast with a mean streak, but dr. shally you know the particulars of his surgery... gigantic man with that type of operation could spell his demise. If he recovers and contributes anywhere i'll be impressed. Rather take my chances on Williams at the moment. Pass.

Runyan has been extremely rugged his entire career and is one of the rare true RT's to make the Pro-Bowl. Granted, I don't see him in DC.
Perhaps a reason why Levi isn't getting more attention (plus he wants to be paid like a starting LT)

levi might be a decent risk as a Right Tackle.. but if he wants to get paid as a starting Left Tackle, teams will be disappointed..
pass until he becomes reasonable.. rather take a lower risk on Kwame Harris as a RIGHT tackle (he is not a left tackle)

Has it really come to the point where we are making daily update threads about Jon Runyan?? That is depressing.

not as depressing as thinking that we have a hole at right tackle.

Nor should they. Runyan was showing signs of being done before the injury.

You think we make a play for him? It does say 3 teams...

I really doubt that he would consider the Skins unless:
A) they make a "Danny type" offer
B) was enough to compensate for his local philly endorsements + vet minimum + and some sore of bonus.

I originally thought we could make a move for this guy, but as the preseason went along I started to believe all the "we're comfortable with what have on the o-line" talk.
I don't see it happening now.
But I'm kind of an idiot, so don't quote me on that.

I really don't undertstand the Runyan love affair... He may be better than Heyer, but not much at this point in his career.... Especially in pass protection.

I'd rather Runyan have a roster spot than Mike freaking Williams.

i dont think he can make a bad line good by himself.. what he can do is be the final piece to a good line that has an injured, or weak Right tackle

The issue isn't necessarily being better than Heyer. The big problem is Mike Williams is one ankle turn away from seeing the field. I would feel much better having a proven guy like Runyan on the roster.

If not this go 'round then after Philly faces the likes of Julius Peppers and Everette Brown (who got 4-5 sacks this pre-season) then he might sign with them next week.

he will be smoked if they do that.. he has a streak of consecutive games played as a starter// impressive.. he wont want to lose that, so i would not be surprised if he signs with someone if it gives him a chance to continue the streak..
on the other hand, by not being signed until after game one, his contract isnt guaranteed either..

Since this represents a totally unecessary risk, the latter.

per www.profootballtalk.com the Eagles are said to be happy enough with the play of Justice that they dont intend to sign Runyan to replace Andrews who went on IR

The Washington Redskins will not be looking to improve the OL. As an organization, we're very happy with the play so far, both, run protection and pass protection. Don't expect the Redskins to address the need next off season as well. We're young and we have excellent depth at every position along the OL.

At times the Redskin FO and coaches remind me of the citizens of the fictional planet Krypton. I listen to NFL on Sirrius/XM radio and when they discuss the Redskins, the 1st thing that is mentioned is the O-Line and specifically RT.

sounds like the mantra: The D line is fine....
if we get a new coach, expect changes regardless of what the front office is saying now...

Runyan can't play any more folks. Teams don't let a serviceable veteran OT with his resume sit unless there is a reason.
