well, i suppose it could be worse.. we could be Denver fans
No Shanahan
No Cutler
The ongoing Marshall circus
and now we have Josh McDaniels, the new savior, appointing Kyle Orton the starter and watching him end his first three drives as a Bronco with 3 interceptions...
gonna be a very rough year in Mile High

McDaniels appears to have no idea what he is doing. From his player choices to his mystery timeout calls he looks lost.

I'm going to love watching them go 2-14, and then realizing that they traded away the #1 pick in the 2010 draft for an 2nd round cornerback.
McDaniels is an idiot. Their draft was criminal. They had the worst front 7 in all of football last year, and with 10 picks managed to get one player for the front 7. They're switching to 3-4, and he didn't draft a single linebacker. They had an awful defense and a good offense, so they only spent 4 picks on the D. It's going to be great watching the Rai-duhs steamroll them this year.

Actually, they would keep the #1. They traded Seattle Chicago's 1st rounder.

then we will have NO chance of drafting Bradford.. mcdaniel/Xanford the GM clearing the decks and will use that pick on the best qb coming out

You seem to think that we aren't going to sell out completely for the #1 pick for our new coach.

that was the worst thing about living in new mexico.. the sports bars were filled with 60% denver fans, and 30 % cowboy fans.. it was a miserable experience watching Redskins games there..

wont happen that way.. none of those guys would likely insist on trading up for the number 1 pick
i cant remember Shanahan/Holmgren/Cowher ever doing that during their former jobs.. why would they do it now ?
the smart way would be to take the most dominant OT coming out.. or trading for a QB like the "next" Drew Brees
and remember, Sanchez lasted until pick 9 (?) this year.. so you never know

It's not like Cutler lit it up either. An INT and 50% completion percentage.

Nope, they traded their own 1st rounder. This is from the Post (http://www.denverpost.com/sports/ci_12228231):
He wasn't kidding. McDaniels dealt the Broncos' 2010 first-round pick to nab Alphonso Smith, an all-American cornerback from Wake Forest, at No. 37. The Broncos still have a first-rounder obtained from Chicago in the Jay Cutler deal.
This is going to go down as one of the dumbest trades ever. People complain about Jason Taylor, but jeez, these idiots gave up a top 5 pick in all likelihood for #37.

I have PFT saying it was the Bears' pick:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/07/26/215-million-signing-bonus-for-smith/
When the Broncos traded the 2010 first-round pick they acquired from Chicago as part of the Jay Cutler deal in order to snag cornerback Alphonso Smith with the fifth overall pick in round two of the 2009 draft, the Broncos necessarily put themselves in position to get a player for less money than a first-round pick costs.
Mine is the more recent link.

I dunno, on all the denver sports radio, they've been saying they traded their own pick ever since the draft. I'm pretty sure that's what the deal was.

It may be conditional for all we know(which explains the confusion).

the fans might yet be longing for the good old days when shanahan had control over the personnel as well as coaching..
In tangential news, Cutler apparently criticised Hester for not breaking up one of his INT's last week. That guys is a real bridge builder, I tell ya.

Well, this is from PK (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/peter_king/08/18/favre/1.html), but then again, I've read that the pick they traded was the one from Chicago as well in the last 24 h, so who the hell knows. I'm praying they lose #1, though, lol.
HMMMMM. From Jay S. of Trenton: "Suppose the Broncos go 3-13 and end up with the NFL's worst record. Their first-round draft pick would belong to Seattle. Assuming that happens, has there been a bigger draft fleecing in the history of the NFL than Alphonso Smith for the first overall pick?''
Interesting. But remember: Few teams (maybe no teams) want the first overall pick. No one wants the second or third pick either. True, if the Broncos finish 3-13, they'll probably want one of the stud quarterbacks coming out this year. And they'll wish they had that pick back. But I am reminded about what that wise old football philosopher Randy Cross told me about Alphonso Smith after he studied him on tape last spring: "This guy might be the best cornerback in the draft, and he's definitely worth a first-round pick.'' Let's give the kid a chance, and see what the season brings.
It's funny, because a lot of the media people out here speculate that the Broncos were willing to dump the pick because they didn't want to have a to pay a high #1. Shanny's salary is digging a big hole in Bowlen's wallet.

bowlen is probably praying for snyder to sign shanny so he can get some relief..

I think Shanny would have to be nuts to take a job until his contract is over. I think he gets $7 Mill per year for the next two years just to sit on his ass. I think I'd wait it out if I were him. And maybe get some new dental implants. He's not with the Broncos anymore, so he can get rid of the horse teeth.
