It really doesn't. I used to admire Farve for his toughness and the way he played the game. Now I will remember him for being a selfish drama queen who retired way too many times.
at least danny can't sign him now.

regardless,it makes the organization look sloopy and willing to break the rules for a player who has never played a down for them.what does that say to the rest of the team?i love brett favre as a player, but this is pretty crappy!as much as i hate the giants, eagles, and cowboys,i think they could still easily be a lot better team than the vikes with favre this season.:giantsuk:

A 39-year old Favre is already better than any of the other cast of characters already on the QB roster. As I've said before; the Vikings did themselves no good heading into camp with Tavarez, Sage or Booty.
And I always believe a player has the right to play/compete as long as he wants; especially if they were once best in class. Favre, Lance Armstrong, a plethora of former championship boxers...etc; it doesn't matter to me, personally.
And if this blows up in the Vikings face then I won't feel one ounce or remorse; as they are in the NFC. I think this is a win/win for anyone who has fun watching him play the position.

That's the bottom line right now. The only weakness this team had was at QB and Favre makes them light years better at the position. No longer will opposing defenses be able to stack 8 or 9 guys in the box to stop Peterson because they know Favre will go over the top to Berrian with no hesitation. And even if you put 8 in the box and give safety help to cover Berrian, you have to account for a short pass to Harvin in space.
And with their defense, a Favre pick (or 3) doesn't hurt nearly as bad, especially since it looks like the Williams Wall won't be suspended this year. Add in the fact that Favre won't have the learning curve he had in NY since the offense is nearly identical to Green Bay's and I like the move.
Their schedule is pretty nice as well, starting the first five weeks with Cleveland, Detroit, San Fran, Green Bay, and St. Louis. At worst they are 4-1 if not 5-0. I don't see the rest of the NFC North catching up at that point.

True...but he did help them get 5-additional wins and a winning record; which is more than Rivers, Cutler, Campbell, Rodgers and Brees can say.
I'm still not sure how he will fit into the Vikings' plans. Its a shame they didn't pull the trigger on one of the top rookie QBs in this year's draft. Had they done so, starting Favre for a year wouldn't be a bad deal. But once Favre is done in '09 what do they have to fall back on for '10? Seems like a temp solution....and those are never good; especially when you have the league's best RB on your roster. You can't waste time with them....as they only last so long.

Plus the surronding parts will be much better in Minnesotta. Peterson is obviously much better than Thomas Jones, and the defense is much better as well. Not to mention Favre actually knows this offense and can use the entire playbook as opposed to in NY where he had to learn an completely different offense on the fly.

problem is that they were still lukewarm towards tavairis.. now they will play farve for a year and depending upon how sage plays, he might be a caretaker for the next qb they draft.

i am not so sure how well farve will mesh with the rest of the pieces.. yes, he won a championship with dorsey levens, but it was the defense that put them over the top.. besides, as soon as he starts throwing 5 picks in a game or 2 people will wonder how much he still has left.

Who knows!?! He turns 40 later this Fall...so I'm not sure how much further he can go past 40. The good thing about Favre is that he only wants to play if he can start; so when the starting gig is up...the gig is up.
I agree about his supporting cast. That offense is fairly good to begin with...and it makes you wonder the possibilities of how good a Favre-to-Harvin connection could be. If the O-line with Hutch holds up, this team could be dangerous.
Also, the NFC North is not as competitive as the AFC East. Lucky for the Vikings, there are no Patriots to face twice a yaer. The last time Favre signed with the Jets his critics assumed he would throw 2 or 3x as many INTs as TDs. He went 1:1 last year with a good number of those INTs coming late into the season. You have to believe he will match that or beat it.

Considering Brett has only thrown 5 or more INTs in a single game twice in 293 total games ; I doubt you will see it twice this season. Everyone also forgets he threw 6 TDs in a game last season so the guy is no slouch.
BTW - instead of pandering to the media and going on and on about the details of his decision during his presser this evening; I'd just prefer him to get up there and say; "I'm playing football this season because I want to. That is the entire story. Deal with it." He would probably win over some critics by tackling his intentions head on.

Playing in a heated dome should help a bit instead of Lambeau and Meadowlands; but I tend to agree that a 40-year old QB with almost 300 games under his belt should be dog tired by week 13.

QB Earl Morrall was 38, I think when he led the Dolphins in their undefeated season (he started 12 of 17 games). He retired 3 or 4 years later. So old QBs can be successful.
But Brett seems to weirdly "need" the game. Maybe he needs a shrink instead. Cheeseheads must be unhappy tonight.

earl morrall was the old time equivalent of todd collins.. he was a career backup who had little wear and tear on him because he had played so little over the years.. he was also surrounded by a team that had a dominating line and running game and who passed infrequently during that season.

I don't understand the hate, really. The man is clearly passionate about the sport, is the oldest starting QB in league, and people view his indecisiveness during training camp as an annoying oddity? Please, it's apparent to everyone that he just didn't want to go to training camp, and the amount of complaining to people that it doesn't even affect is absurd to me. Maybe Favre likes the limelight a little too much to keep his intentions clear, but maybe he doesn't want that. Has anybody considered that he acts this way to keep the interest level high with anything he utters out of his mouth? The amount of money and eye balls that are associated with the man are incredible, and he knows that. Nobody lauds him for his inherently keen ability to keep people's attention at bay, but that is what he is precisely doing; and with perception being the number one commodity that contributes to money in an entertainment arena, I would think that more people would view him as a savvy business man more than a whiny baby, which is what people seem to label him to be.
I, along with most of America, am drawn to this media craze because when you get down to the facts, Favre is an effective Quarterback and immediately makes whichever team he's on volatile to opposing defenses. It's a rarity to see an individual create the opportunities he does by merely giving his presence to a team. I'm excited, quality football is going to be played, and above all else, I like to watch the game that I myself can no longer play. The Redskins immediate future may be bleak, but at least I have something to look forward to with an exciting offense to watch up in the NFC North, which is quickly becoming a division with a bevy of talent.
Okay, I'm crawling back to my hole now.

I would say he is well above average and that it's not him that is obsessed with the spotlight but it's the media that is obsessed with giving him the spotlight. If Favre really wanted to play you can't blame him for his decision, this will probably be the last chance he ever gets.

I think they are kind of used to this type of thing, what with bringing in the veteran guns of Warren Moon and Jeff George in the past. This is a team that has been good but never been a champion and they would accept about anything to get just one Lombardi.
On another note, Childress is an idiot. He ran a Wildcat formation for a play tonight, with Favre in the game. Favre threw an illegal crack back block, injuring the defender and himself in the process. Why run that crap with Favre in the game? Why run that with the mammoth O-Line they have?

I don't believe Favre made the hit with the intention to injury the guy. If anything, Favre was in over his head being asked to flank out and make a block on a gimmic play. I agree with Rich - Childress is a total idiot.
Regarding the game; I thought Favre looked fantastic out there. He was looking off defenders and his throws had a nice zip to them. I really think he is a solid addition to this club. You have to think that the Texans defense was squarely looking at Favre to toss the big one on the first play and instead; ADP took it to the house. With a solid running game; great o-line play; and a potential Favre deep ball on every play; it will be hard to defend them with any sense of regularity.
