When Mike Sellers came onto the field he was carrying the American flag to midfield, then proceeded to throw it down onto the ground to "hype" up the crowd? Hanson ran over and picked it up.
Here. Check out the game notes section at the bottom. (http://espn.go.com/nfl/recap?gameId=290828028)
Game notes
An unsightly breach of patriotic etiquette: Redskins FB Mike Sellers, carrying the American flag onto the field during pregame introductions, flung the Stars and Stripes onto the ground near the 50-yard line. After a few seconds, LB Robert Hanson walked over and rescued the flag off the turf

How can anyone be that stupid?

Honestly, Dave, yes. Flag etiquette has pretty much dwindled over the course of time. If you read the rules on it, we should not even be wearing it on our clothing, but we do. I am not saying this is right, I am just saying that when we were little kids, flag etiquette was taught and I don't see that being the case now days.

Hope Sellers wasn't "high" on something--moron!

Honestly, in this day and age, I'm surprised anyone remembers flag ettiquette. To most people, Burning the flag is still within flag ettiquette.
Sellers is a Moron but somehow I doubt he "meant" to do it.

Very disapointing.
If Sellers were to be asked about it, he'd probably think it was no big deal -- blow it off. It is a big deal to many of us. I'm sick and tired of jackasses who f up and blow it off like it's no big thing. Check yourself! Be a man!

Good for him. Maybe our players shouldn't carry Old Glory before the game?

An army brat should know better than to treat the flag that way. Good to see he stepped up on that, though.

Probably lol. Still, if they carry it, they have to know the significance of what they're carrying. Otherwise, why are the carrying it in the first place?

if they want to stomp or throw something, they should give them a Cowboy or Giant flag to abuse...

he said they asked him last minute to take it out there and when he got there he had no idea what to do or who to hand it to.
Guess noone told him what to do. But i am sure dropping it is pretty high up the list of donts. lol

obviously i have respect for what our flag represents, but this doesn't bother me, if not simply for the fact that sellers didn't intentionally do that as a means of disrespecting america. he's just a buffoon. i'll let it slide.

Not really speaking about THIS particular incident, but there's a disturbing amount of disrespect towards the flag these days. I've seen Cowboys fans get more upset over "disrespecting the star" than most people do over disrespecting the flag. The cowboy star is just a football team's icon, nobody has ever died to see it raised. The flag is a symbol of everything our armed forces fight for. You disrespect those sacrifices when you disrespect the flag.

you're on to something here ... I've also noticed how many of the younger generations don't so much as stop talking during the national anthem

I am glad that Henson had the piece of mind to pick it up. Robert Henson should make the team just for that. Shows he's using his brain.
