Chris Henry Profile
Free-agent RB Chris Henry is scheduled to visit the Washington Redskins on Monday, a league source told Scout.com.
The former 2007 second-round pick of the Tennessee Titans has received interest from other teams including the Houston Texans, who are expected to bring him in for a visit later this week.
Washington's interest in Henry is surprising considering they already have five backs on their 53-man roster. It's possible that Washington is looking to add a back to their practice squad and Henry does have practice squad eligibility left. Washington's running back coach Sherman Smith held the same title with Tennessee back in Henry's rookie season in 2007, so it's possible that Smith wanted to take another look at the third-year pro.
Houston has three backs on their 53-man roster and has rookie Arian Foster on their practice squad. However, the contracts of veterans Ryan Moats and Chris Brown are set to expire after this season.

Redskins to Audition Punters
Veteran punter Hunter Smith, who has a groin injury, might miss this week's game against the Carolina Panthers, so the Redskins plan to audition possible replacements Tuesday at Redskins Park, Coach Jim Zorn said today.
"His MRI came out decent," Zorn said. "He's got a pulled groin. It's not severe, but it is going to possibly keep him from participating. We're going to take him as we go through the week.
"We are going to bring a couple of punters in and work them out. I can't say it's a day-to-day thing. It may look like he's out. I don't know that for sure."
In Sunday's 16-13 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Smith was injured on his first punt in the first half. Place kicker Shaun Suisham took over punting duties and averaged 26.7 yards, and only 25.3 net yards, on three punts in the game. Smith held for Suisham on kicks after halftime, but Suisham handled Washington's only punt.
"If we did sign a punter, I would just rest Hunter. I would not punt him," Zorn said. "Now, as far as the holding goes, I would love to have him out there holding, because I want that to stay the same.
"I can't tell you want I'm going to do yet. But that's definitely a possibility, getting a guy to come in for a week and punt and give him a rest. Try to get that leg strengthened so I don't have this reoccurring the entire season."

Why is he not with Tennessee any more? I don't remember seeing or hearing anything about that.

"Henry's talent is undeniable. He is a bull at 5-11, 230 pounds. His speed sent shockwaves through the combine. Henry sprinted to a 4.40 in the 40-yard dash, and from all indications after the fact, scouts were taken completely off guard by the display. To add icing on the cake, Henry had a 36-inch vertical jump and did 26 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press. It obviously remains to be seen how this talent will translate into on-field success, but it's virtually impossible-and bordering on crazy-not to take a gamble on Henry's potential."

Don't know why he didn't pan out. He was a combine workout warrior. The Titans are also loaded with Lendale White and Chris Johnson, but then again, the guy could be dumb as doornails. Who knows.
Doesn't hurt to take a look though. You have to like the numbers.

That who I first thought too....Then I had him confused with Chris Johnson of the Titans....
Well, if he is that fast and can hold on to the ball sign him up.
I can see us using a 6 RB set/formation.....the defense wouldn't have a clue which one of them is getting the ball... (of course neither would our QB).

that Chris Henry(the WR) is still on the bengals. and he has stayed out of trouble for some time now. if nothing else, he could probably help us in the redzone...
and if we do sign the RB Chris Henry it will be the end of mason most likely. he is likely gone anyways if we have to sign a punter to fill in for hunter smith. the NFL seriously needs a temporary IR where you can stash an injured player a few weeks with a roster exemption to bring in someone else until the injured player is ready to come back.
and actually, it cannot be alridge that gets cut. we signed him off the texans practice squad so we have to keep him on the active roster for atleast 4 weeks i believe, it may even be 6 weeks, im not sure on that, but alridge wont be going anywhere.

Pretty sure they are just working him out to see if he will be an option when Portis has to take 2-3 weeks off in the middle of the season.
From what I have seen from him... he is big, strong and fast, but not very elusive with his feet. Gotta be better than anything we have behind Portis though.

If I'm remembering correctly, he had some issues while in school (think it was ASU) that might have been in conjunction with an injury or two and that dropped his stock. That being said, I have no issues with the Skins looking at someone (anyone) who might help them. Worst case, he has PS eligibility.

i'm a little irked by all this interest in running backs lately. first we brign back alridge, now we're looking at, by my count, our 7th potential ballcarrier. portis, betts, rock, mason, sellers, alridge, and now henry?
i wish our o-line got this much attention and personnel.

He actually did return kickoffs in Tennessee. I only know this because he got completely jacked up in '07 on a kickoff return against the Colts. I'm not sure how effective he was or if he was their regular kick returner, but. . . well, you might want to have any small children or pregnant women leave the room before clicking this link...

its a visit and its not like were sure to even sign him or offer him a contract. with his size it sounds like we might take a look at him as a short yardage back since we cant seem to punch it in at the goalline.
as far as Kendall and Runyan, i will pass on both of them at this point. neither are in football shape and both are old. weve spent a lot of time here complaining about the age of our oline, now people want to bring in old guys to replace the young guys we finally have starting. and these young guys are never gonna learn on the bench. since randy thomas went down, we have 3 new starters on the oline this year. so it is different than last years line, i would rather see if it gels than bring in stop gaps again. even portis said kendall at 100% is like most guys at 60%. and the guy cant even practice during the week. runyan, i would take a look at him if we have injuries, otherwise id rather stick with what we got and hope they get better

Hmmm let's see...
1) Aldrige - Mr. midget speedy gonzalez fumbleitis
2) Rock - old, slow except on KR, role player in last year; I got no problems w/ his heart though
3) Betts - old, slow, does not play AT ALL like he did 3 years ago; does not play smart (out of bounds anyone?); if CP or Rock could only catch better, we would have dumped Betts
4) Mason - runs hard, shows quickness - unproven hands or toughness; a future backup (maybe). Need to learn to play teams.
5) CP - has heart but obviously slowing; will probably have his worst year (not counting injury in 06-07). I am guessing 1000-1100 yds, 6 tds.
Bet on it, in two years at MOST one of these players will be on the roster.
Meanwhile the Cowpukes have Barber, Jones and Choice.
So yeah, we need another RB. Is it Henry? who knows, but a powerful north/south guy with acceleration and power would be nice.

Unlike Bellicheat, I would not subject even a fading star like CP to the hellhole that is Oakland right now. With McFadden hurt I don't think Bush is going anywhere. I would have dropped Betts and picked up Brian Leonard for cheap in the offseason though. I think he has pass catching upside and plays smart and plays ST.

That wouldn't have been a bad move either. I'm still kind of PPO'd that we didn't make an offer for Bush. He was there to be had. We could have traded Moss for Bush straight up and maybe even have gotten a pick back for him. Just another example of how our FO is worthless.
