Standings

DS 17
SAS 10
Ali 9
Rube 9
Akh 4

Details here: http://public.sheet.zoho.com/public/antielian/home-run-league

The idea is simple: draft a team (for example, Pujols, Manny, Cuddyer, Ellsbury, etc), the team with the most home runs in the playoffs wins. We need 3 more teams for a 6 team league. We'll hold the draft as soon as we have all 6 players. The draft will be held in this thread (so for example, I'll post my pick, then akh will post his, then Ali will post his). The draft must be finished by the start of games tomorrow at 2:30 so don't join if you can't commit to a quick draft which starts tonight, but may have to finish up tomorrow during the day. The draft is ongoing so you can pick as soon as the player before you does.

Various odds and ends:
1) For the sake of time, I'll put the names in a hat as soon as we have the league filled out and I'll randomly determine the draft order (if you don't trust me to do this fairly, too bad, don't join).
2) All rounds of the playoffs count. For example, if the Cardinals lose in the first round Pujols' home runs for that round count, but he obviously can't hit more. However, if the Angels go to the world series all of Vlad's home runs count. Draft accordingly. (Note: results from tonight's play-in game do not count towards league results.)
3) I will post the drafted teams and update the home run totals in this thread daily.
4) The draft will have 8 rounds, snake style.
5) No trading, obviously. You draft a team and let the home runs accumulate.
5') No disabled list. Injuries are bad luck and hopefully the rest of your team is good enough to compensate.
5'') No free agent pick-ups. Once again, you draft a team and that's it.
6) Because of the possibility of a tie. There will be a supplemental one-round pitchers draft. You draft any pitcher and that pitcher's win total in the playoffs is the tie-breaker. The person who picked first in the regular draft will pick last in the supplemental, and visa versa.
6') The second tie-breaker will be the total number of stolen bases for your team.
7) The third tie-breaker will be nothing. You have to share the title.
8) Winner gets bragging rights and they are great bragging rights, indeed.

FFA has until 10:07 to pick or else we move on without him. It's official. Sorry FFA, but it's getting late on the East Coast and we have to move on.

It was an idea that started at about 7 last night and came to fruition between 10 and 11. I would have liked to have tried to get a few more players and take our time doing this, but getting the draft in before the games started today became priority. The drafting was frenetic conducted partly here and mostly on email with over 100 "Send to all" emails passed between us last night. High comedy watching Ali try to draft already selected players and akh quickly draft Hawpe after Ali picked Morneau, locking in Ali's selection of an injured player. So, sorry guys...I was keeping my eye out to see if you two were online. Ya'll will be the first invites next year.

Do any of you guys know how to publish an excel file into the first post in this thread? It would be great to keep our tally's on the front page of this thread.

That was hilarious.

A thought for next baseball season: a league with 7 hitting spots, 2 stats categories(HRs and a 2nd[SB?]) and 2 SP spots(wins). No trades, no transactions. If your player is hurt or sucks, tough.

That would be something I'd like to get in on akh.

I was thinking about something somewhat similar, but since the baseball season is so long, I think there should be a mid-season draft that allows you to replace a few players.

After one round, I'm in the lead with 5 HRs. Ali is not far behind with 4, with akh and SAS at 3. It should be noted that Rube has only 1 HR, but is definitely a strong contender going forward as he leads the league in remaining players having lost just Jason Kubel in the first round. SAS has 3 players remaining, Ali has 5 (which is pretty good considering he only started with 7 active players, lol), akh has only 2 players, and I have 6.
