This reminds me of a guy that I served about a week with in the Coast Guard in Baltimore.
2 years earlier he had been hit by a drunk driver in Glen Burnie and two of his passengers were killed. He had a lot of problems that he had over came.
Well, I was his replacement. He had won a settlement for a lot of money. Over 3 million dollars it was rumored. He never told anyone just how much. The Coast Guard "MADE" him get out. I guess they thought he wouldn't do as good of a job now that he had all of that money in his checking account.
I'd be surprised if the military made him come back.
Why can't I have that kind of luck? lol

Another story....
I read in the USA Today several years ago about this guy that won 1.5 million dollars in a lottery in New York. He had something like 6 months or a year to claim his prize.
3 days after the due date to claim his winnings, he showed up. He soon found out that he had missed the due date.
Do you know what his excuse was on why didn't show up on time?
HE COULND'T GET OFF OF WORK!!!!!
A honest story! Unbelievable story...

I think there is an exemption for people who come into money that are in the military to get discharged. I might be mistaken but could have sworn some friends talking about when I was active. (you know guys day dreaming about winning the lottery and getting the hell out of the middle east kinda talk hehe) That was back in 90 when I in the first gulf war.

He will be forced out probably. Each service has its own guidelines/regulations how it treats members and obtaining a lot of money whether its a lottery or an inheritance.
