Thanks to Skinswins'emall for the link to the Maxim interview with LA.

While reading the article, I noticed something that my let us in on why Lavar has never joined the NFLPA. Read this and let me know if this is why....

OK, so if there was a single word to describe Lavar Arrington, what would it be?
One word? Hm…I would have to go with phenomenal.

Sure you don’t want to go for humble? What’s one thing no one knows about Lavar Arrington?
My heart.

What about it?
It’s big.

You have a big heart. What, medically?
I’m very caring. I’m a very giving person. I try to mentor younger guys. If I’m driving home and I see kids, I’ll stop and talk to them. If I see a practice, I’ll stop and go check it out. I’ll go to a school unannounced. You don’t have to pay me. You won’t know it. You’re not going to take advantage of me, like I’m there for free, no. I don’t need people to see the things I do. The first thing I did was take care of my mother and my father. I don’t need for people to see that.

Seems to me that Lavar doesn't anyone else making money off of his name. I remember reading something like that right after he announced that he wouldn't be signing with them.

I agree Jeff. That was a classy thing to do for his cousin.

Yep. The Funky4 shook his cousins hand while we were in the tunnel waiting for our cue to go dance. I remember his being wheeled to the sideline, all the while wearing a sweet #56 J. Arrington authentic retro.

My best friend lived in the same neighborhood as Lavar and still refers to him as "Lil Lavar". He said he was really down to earth.

It's funny, he signs autographs on helmets and other items. Thats pretty big money. If the rumor about his father is true then I think "Lil' Lavar" is trying have his cake and eat it.

I disagree. The point that I have always gotten from all of this is he didn't like the "share the pot" aspect of the NFLPA contract. I may be wrong, but I have been under the understanding that although Urlacher's jersey may have been the top seller, he didn't receive anymore money then the guy who's jersey is the worst seller. I may be incorrect in that, so if someone can correct me on that please do. If that is indeed the case, then I understand where he is coming from. He should be able to dictate the amount of money made off of his likeness and name if he so chooses. I have never known him to do any of those card shows where he is selling his name, and even if he were, wouldn't you consider that his controlling the situation to his liking?

Now wait it minute...how's he suppose to know who's gonna put his signed helmet behind plexiglass to show off to the relatives and who's gonna put the helmet on E-Bay?

I'm glad he signs helmets, I hope my kid can get one one day!

This guy is geniune and seems to care for others deeply. That is very important to defining ones character. The thing with his cousin, that was special in my mind.Being a father i cant stand the thought of children suffering. It's seems so needless. What he did makes him a selfless man in a sport full of selfish people IMO.
