From a PREVIEW of the upcoming season article in August: (They seem to look smarter than all the football "Experts")

WASHINGTON REDSKINS
’02 skinny: There wasn’t much fun or gun in coach Steve Spurrier’s first season. But they still went 7-9.
New blood: Draft? They don’t need no stinkin’ draft! The Redskins absolutely raped the Jets this off-season, grabbing WR Laveranues Coles, RB Chad Morton, G Randy Thomas, and K John Hall. Ouch!
Predictions: Don’t be surprised if quarterback Patrick Ramsey takes a major step forward and Spurrier challenges for the division crown.

NEW YORK GIANTS
’02 skinny: Get off the ledge, Giants fans! So what if you blew a 24-point playoff lead—gaining just 69 yards in the last 19 minutes? OK…jump.
New blood: Last year’s special teams were special—Jerry’s Kids special. So New York cleaned house, picking up all-time return leader Brian Mitchell, a placement specialist, a kicker, a long snapper, and a gunner.
Prediction: On paper this is the division’s best team. The defense is solid and the receivers are tops in the NFC. But don’t buy those Super Bowl tickets just yet. The Eagles have sharpened their talons.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
’02 skinny: Riddle us this, fat man. Your $113 million QB breaks his ankle in Week 11…and the team gets better?
New blood: More like a bloodletting. LBs Hugh Douglas, Shawn Barber, and Barry Gardner left, breaking up a great defense.
Prediction: This should be Philly’s year. But it’s not. Until QB Donovan McNabb matures into a true pocket passer, Philly will continue to come up short.

I really hate the analogy of the Skins "raping" the Jets. I think the media could stand to curb using that term in relation to the offseason.

How about "invaded"

or

"encroched" upon (to advance beyond the usual or proper limits)
