View Full Version : WaPo...Sally Jenkins... Redskins need a GM bailout

The solution is plain: Snyder must fire Cerrato and hire a competent, detached executive, one who will restore some reason to the organization.

The chief thing a strong GM does is tell people, including the owner, no.
Right to the point!

A strong GM shouldn't have to tell their owner "no" because the owner knows what his role is. Snyder should call his buddy Bob Kraft to ask him how well his set up is working with him not telling the staff what to do.

That's a great article. I hope Danny Boy reads it, and then sits Vinny down and reads it again:readme:. It's hard to look at how the Giants and Colts have got rid of aging talent and reloaded their rosters as we continue to fall deepen into the pit of dispar. The Colts drafted 2 running backs to go with the 2 wide receivers mentioned in the article, both good moves...the kid Brown from UConn looks like a he can make things happen. Our backfield situation will be a major concern in the next few years. I love CP, but he is a very expensive peace.:smash: I would say the league has proved ala Denver, that with a good offensive line almost anyone can run for decent yardage. We have to stop reaching, and over paying players.

Good for her if she is. She's saying exactly what the fans want to say but without a voice.

Yep, lol. She's happier than a fat chick at a Cracker Barrel with all of this.

Interesting quote about Vinny by Joe Gibbs:

Outgoing coach Joe Gibbs issued a statement of congratulations. "Today's Washington Redskins roster is a testament to Vinny and the personnel department," Gibbs said.

I'm intrigued by the fact that Gibb's quote can be taken in two ways.

You are right, I think it may have factored into why he gave it up again. Maybe he saw the fact that Danny and Vinny were not trying to address noted shortcomings. I read it as, I tried to fix it, but with Vinny on the Job, I can't, so fans it is what it is.

just a devastating, but spot on, analysis of the way things are off the tracks for the Redskins

exactly correct.. she may have an agenda, and she may have issues, but she is functioning at the appropriate level for a quality journalist at this time and writing about this issue

I agree with having a GM 100% . But we also need a president. If you look at the structure of the better teams in the NFL they also have a president and GM.

Completely agree with Sally Jenkins in this article, and this is nothing new to us fans. We've known and needed this for about 10 years now.

Hmm I'm sure Vinny response will be to photocopy more of his championship rings and send it to her. This woman is dead on.

doesnt matter WHAT you call these guys. or how you divide up the tasks.... just get Snyder's hands off the throttle and let real football people run the team from top to bottom

Dan Snyder please hire this guy.

Nick Caserio
Patriots director of player personnel

No one in the NFL has crossed lines between the coaching staff and the personnel department as often or as well as the Pats' new personnel boss. Outside observers might think Caserio could not decide on a career path. Patriots insiders fully recognize that Caserio has been Bill Belichick's jack-of-all-trades, accepting any role that will help the team, and has been cross-trained as a coach and as an evaluator. The former John Carroll wide receiver, who was a college teammate of Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, has earned a reputation as a very thorough, tireless worker with an excellent understanding of the Patriots' schemes and an equally strong grasp of personnel. Thomas Dimitroff and Scott Pioli both have been plucked from Bill Belichick's front-office cabinet to head football operations for the Falcons and Chiefs, respectively. It might not take long for the 33-year-old Caserio, who is working alongside senior advisor Floyd Reese, to draw attention from NFL ownership.

She can be tiresome at times, and ALL these articles, blogs etc are starting to say the same thing to Danny boy (that we have been saying for YEARS!)

However, this does not mean she is not RIGHT about this.

At this point, I'm lovin' it because every time she writes something, it annoys Vinny to no end and he pulls out his rings to show off (yeah Vinny, did you EARN those?)

Every time I see or hear Vinny these days he seems really defensive and strikes me as a really insecure guy who has built his career and reputation on the success of others.

In the end, he is a mediocre radio personality and scout. That's about it. Not GM material by a long shot.

i am cautiously optimistic that this time a critical mass is building up that will result in cerrato actually getting fired..the dismal results associated with important draft picks like davis, kelly, thomas, reinhart as well as the reliance on someone like Mike Williams, or Heyer to fill critical roles on the team has exposed him for the fraud that he is..

the discovery of guys like mitchell and horton in no way mitigates the failure of cerrato to perform one of the essential duties of his job--- CONVERT HIGH DRAFT PICKS INTO RELIABLE STARTERS..

You may be right. Keep this in mind, the the noise has gotten louder and louder each week for the last four weeks. We still have 10 games to go. If it keeps intensifying, who knows where it may go.

Exactly how much more of this can Snyders ego take. And there is 10 long weeks of Snyder getting blasted by everyone to go. Maybe there is a chance Vinny gets the ax.

Of course, firing Cerrato would only be a good thing if Snyder was actually able to bring in a competent GM.

I would *hope* if he considers that he would go to several people for advice on that, and that Snyder would actually get a GM with some cohones.

The last thing we need is for Vinnie version 1.0 to be replaced by Vinnie version 2.0.

Watch the players turn around and go 5-5 to end 7-9. Leave it to this organization to fail at failing.

i dont so.. the last times that kind of thing happened we had a stable coaching staff with either Gibbs or Marty at the helm.

we have gross incompetence at every level of coaching this time around.. it will be like having robiskie coaching (although i am in favor of giving jerry gray a decent shot this season)

From Inside the Red Zone (ESPN 980)

Vinnie revealed that he confronted Jenkins about her last article which labeled him a "failure".

He took offense at the fact that she was writing out of New York and had never spoken to him personally.

This latest article is even more fiery than the last...I will be listening to his show this week. I'm pretty sure he will address Jenkins again.

Definition of 'confronted"? Misrepresenting your accomplishments to someone else and then having Larry Michael ride to your rescue and spout off about Jenkins on that stupid TV show of his isn't exactly "confronting" anyone.

Who cares where she's writing it from? I didn't see Vinny criticize any of the dozens of national NFL writers criticizing the Skins.

How ironic that Cerrato's show is named after the scene of the Redskins' most abject failures.
