Oakland should feel better about its chances to run the football effectively in Sunday’s Week 14 home game against the Redskins. That’s because the Washington Times reports defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has ruled himself out because of his nagging ankle sprain.

Along with Haynesworth, fullback Mike Sellers(notes), who is battling a thigh contusion, won’t be able to go against the Raiders. There’s a chance the defense will also will be missing cornerback DeAngelo Hall(notes) with a knee injury.

Haynesworth’s absence not only hurts the run defense, but it hampers the ability of rookie defensive end Brian Orakpo(notes) to get favorable one-on-one matchups when rushing the passer.

Albert Haynesworth has ruled himself out because of his nagging ankle sprain.

So now players can rule themselves out of game?

Well, its not like we have a real HC.

Probably best for him to miss this game if he can comeback strong for the final three. This game in Oakland really means nothing to me. Id rather him get healthy and be ready to go for the rival Giants and Cowboys.

Meh I think its a good thing.............why waste are most talented players (Portis,Haynesworth) on a lost season?

I think Moss,Fletcher,Hall should all sit to........The season is over let the young players play save are vetran players for next year.

I think my position on AH has been slightly misunderstood around here. I don't dislike him as a player or undervalue his impact but I don't think it's good football strategy to sign a ridiculously high salaried superstar to a sub .500 football team with a ton of holes. And anybody with any sense knew we weren't going to be a good team this year and we won't be good next year either.

AH is a high maintenance player, which troubles me. I don't really have a problem with him sitting out this week. It's better than us counting on him only to have him rolling around on the ground two plays into the game.

honestly, I think we can all agree on this. I forget who it was but someone brought up the two signings by the giANTS, Bernard/Canty, for less total guaranteed $$ than AH.

I dont agree with this part of your post on two fronts.

1) We were coming off an 8-8 season when we signed Haynesworth so I dont understand where sub .500 came from. Unless you mean the Redskins should have realized in March that we werent going to win 8 games in 2009. I hope our team had more faith in its players than that.

2) I disagree that anyone who thought this team had a chance to be good had no sense. I feel like I have a good idea about the game of football and some basic common sense. No one thought this team was winning the Super Bowl but id say most Skins fans were split on if this team could make the playoffs or not.

I actually thought this team would get a wild card spot this season. I liked that Zorn was coming into his 2nd season as head coach. Odds were he would improve somewhat from what he had learned during the teams collapse last season. The offense wasnt great in the 2nd half of 2008 but I had a feeling with another year in Zorns system they could be a average offense.

The defense was top five in the league last season and added Haynesworth & Orakpo. Almost everyone I talked to thought the defense would be no worse than top five again in the NFL. With the additions we made it would create more sacks and turnovers. If the offense scored 20 ppg we would be hard to beat.

They didnt have the sacks and turnovers last season so it wasnt a true top 5 defense I agree.

Add Haynesworth and Orakpo like we did and I expected the same defense that played well but with the big plays.

We got the sacks but we havent gotten the turnovers.

Right,
8-8 last year with a first year head coach
Haynesworth, Orakpo, and Jarmon added to defense
Springs and Washington subtracted
Add Dockery
Subtract Kendall
it's better than last year personnel wise with a year more exp. which leaves me pointing my finger at the coaches and obviously the oline neglect by FO.

it aint as much the jimmy's and the joe's as it is the x's and the o's

for pete's sake we havent had a coach capable of simple clock management since i dont know when

1) We were coming off a 2-6 finish, because our offensive line depth sucked and we did little to address that this offseason.
2) I pegged us at 6-10, back in March. Even in my pessimism, I was over optimistic.

We still suck at creating turnovers and our defense is the worst it has been since George Edwards was the Coordinator.

This should come as no surprise since the last time AH played 16 games was in his rookie year, and he has averaged just about 75% of the total defensive snaps in the last few years.

Obviously, this probably should have been considered when giving him that kind of contract, since you are also gonna have to find someone decent to play that other 25% of the snaps.

Agreed on #1 for the most part. I was basing my post off of you saying if we didnt sign Haynesworth we could of added more lineman. I think we did address the OL as much as we could in FA no matter if we signed Haynesworth or not.

The depth problems we didnt address are from us not drafting OL and that our coaches let Bridges go right before the season for no real reason.

I have no problem with the prediction you gave for the Skins. I just had a problem with how you said anyone who thought the Skins would be good had no sense.

I agree we suck at creating turnovers. There are lots of reasons why we cant still create them. The coaches schemes (10-15 yard cushions), the run defense, and the terrible tackling of certain players is mostly to blame.

I think Haynesworth has done his job this season. The injury problems suck but we all expected them when we signed him. Overall he has at the very least helped us create more pressure up front. Hopefully if the Skins get a new defensive staff in 2010 they can get the most out of the insane amount of talent that we have on defense. This years defense has some flaws but they still have played well for the most part this season imo. Id say vs the Saints the Skins had one of their best defensive performances in a long time. The score and the stats dont tell the whole story.

So assuming Big Al feels motivated enough to come back for the final three that means he'll play 13 games for us this season. The guy can play when he's out on the field, but I fear that we'll probably never see him play a full season. The last time he did it was his rookie year. 41 million dollars well spent Danny Boy, 41 million well spent... :smash::devil2:

The Haynesworth signing is a waste. This business of him laying all over the field is getting tiresome. And this is what he is doing when he's 28. Imagine how beat up he'll be in 2 years. He is good when he is in there but he looks like he should retire based on how easily he gets hurt.

Good, maybe then McFadden, Bush and Fargas could give Raider fans a nice effort on the ground and take some of the pressure off Bruce Almighty!

This year we're 9th in yardage and 14th in total points. I wonder what kind of graphic they'll be able to put up this week to tout such a meh squad.

I'm guessing the slug will go something like this: "Greg Blache is doing a great job. He's got that defense #1 in the NFL in 4th down defense" lol

LMAO!

BTW, we're 12th in sacks this year. Not bad, but just a shade above meh. I'm interested to see how many sacks we get less AH this Sunday. I'm going to guess 1.

Tiger Woods should hire Blache's PR people. Within a week the sports media will be talking about how Tiger was faithful 3 days out of 10, and how that shows his commitment to his wife.

Agreed, but I am starting to worry about a 100 million dollar player that can only play 12 games a year. he got an injection in his knee before the season started, not a good sign.
