LOS ANGELES - The unexpected death of 32-year-old Brittany Murphy, who gained fame in such movies as "8 Mile" and "Just Married," appeared to be from natural causes but police are investigating, officials said.
Murphy died about 10 a.m. Sunday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to the hospital.
She was transported to the medical center after the Fire Department responded to a call at 8 a.m. at the home she shared with her husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, in the Hollywood Hills.
Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter said Murphy apparently collapsed in the bathroom, and authorities were looking into her medical history.
An official cause of death may not be determined for some time, since toxicology tests will be required, but "it appears to be natural," Winter said. He said an autopsy was planned for Monday or Tuesday.
Los Angeles police have opened an investigation into Murphy's death, Officer Norma Eisenman said. Detectives and coroner's officials were at Murphy and Monjack's home Sunday afternoon but did not talk to reporters. Paparazzi were camped outside the multistory home, located above the Sunset Strip.

32 year old women do not just up and drop dead "naturally". Well, they do but you have a better chance of getting trampled to death by punk rock ferrets.
Anyway, I really don't know that much about her but it's especially sad anytime someone so young passes away. Her family must be beside themselves. RIP and condolences.

Prescription drug related it looks like. She had a lot of illnesses(long term ones) and was on a lot of different drugs. She vomiting violently before she died and was found in the shower surrounded by vomit, I'm guessing she had a reaction to the various drugs she was taking.

My brother died of a heart attack that turned into a pulmonary embolism in a similar situation. It happens.

was she treated for an eating disorder ? she kind of had that look to me, and you can get heart or kidney disease from it...
also, a lot of cardiac events are associated with acute vomiting..

Her mom said she was diabetic as well. How would that effect everything else that has been mentioned?

Sorry to hear that, man.
Yeah, that's why I said women. Men are more likely to have congential heart defects, pulmonary embolisms and the like strike them at abnormally young ages than women. It's pretty rare for any 32 year old at all but, like you said, it happens.
Again, condolences about your brother.

i dont have nearly enough info to give you an intelligent answer, although diabetics who go into insulin shock can vomit..
over time, diabetics can develop organ failure, but usually you dont see that at 32

for some reason, women seem to be prone to rhythm problems at young ages.. i have known two women who needed ablative surgery in their 20's.. that solved it for them, but they were very ill before that...

What caused the rhythm problems? Was it exercise or meds that created acute symptoms? It sounds like the meds in combo with the vomiting affected Murphy.
Wouldn't Murphy have been diagnosed? I'm sure she's not one of the uninsured.

I don't think it has been mentioned here yet, but the husband did not want an autopsy performed. That would seem to throw out any of the "natural" causes in my mind.

I thought she was adorable and very funny, was sad to hear this. Now they're saying she had "flu-like" symptoms for a few days before she died.
I know when my Mom had her 2 heart attacks, she was ill with "flu-like" symptoms for several days prior. And she had her first attack at age 50...not quite 32, but still pretty young....idk because now there are Twitter posts being posted by her friends that say she suffered from Anorexia for years, but she denied this over and over in the past.
She did look rail thin in the latest pics posted of her.

When you starve yourself, potassium deficiencies damage the heart muscle, I think. Karen Carpenter's cause of death. I'm assuming that the problems compound and manifest earlier when you throw diabetes into the mix. My ex-wife had anorexia really bad in 1982-83 before much was known about it. The docs made her wear a heart monitor device to detect irregular beating. She had to wear this thing for days, and return it to the docs so they could read the results (it looked like a Walkman).

That would make sense. Compounded with the meds, it makes for a dangerous situation.

in the cases i knew personally, it was congenital.. it was not uncommon among the female AA community in New Orleans.. they had a clinic at Charity Hospital that was always very busy treating this problem-- with really good results most of the time.
if she was anorexic that is ALSO a cause of arrythmias...

Brittany and I worked together on a film in 1999, and I got to know her a *little* bit during that time. Of all the celebrities I've been around, she was definitely one of the most down to Earth, fun, and caring... The thing I'll remember the most was her singing; she was always walking around set singing various songs, and I think at one point, she was going to be cast as Janis Joplin in a biopic.
Anyway - very sad to see this happen. I hope her family can find some peace at some point.

From TMZ:
Paramedics moved Brittany from the bathroom to the master bedroom, where they found a slew of prescription drugs -- "A check of the nightstands revealed large amounts of prescription medication in the decedent's name. Also noted were numerous empty prescription medication bottles in the decedent's husband's name, the decedent's mother's name and unidentified third party names."
According to the notes, the medications included Topamax (anti-seizure meds also to prevent migraines), Methylprednisolone (anti-inflammatory), Fluoxetine (depression med), Klonopin (anxiety med), Carbamazepine (treats Diabetic symptoms and is also a bipolar med), Ativan (anxiety med), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), Propranolol (hypertension, used to prevent heart attacks), Biaxin (antibiotic), Hydrocodone (pain med) and miscellaneous vitamins.

From TMZ:
not a lot of really hard core meds...you would either have to take massive amounts of them, or more likely, combine them with alcohol or another depressant to produce lethal levels..

Yeah, I also have a "slew of prescription bottles" laying around. The reason I sometimes let the empty ones pile up is that I need the info on the label when I call the pharmacy for refills.
