Not 100%, but...

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/redskinsinsider/mike-shanahan/shanahan-could-be-introduced-t.html?

Mike Shanahan is expected to be named head coach of the Redskins, according to sources in the organization, and, barring unforeseen glitches, will likely be introduced in a news conference Tuesday.

If true, I'd be pleased. But it would be interesting to see who's doing the scouting for the 'Skins because Shanny has had mixed reviews as far as scouting talent.

That's where Allen has to earn his money. Currently the Redskins have among the smallest scouting teams in the league. Allen needs to take Danny's checkbook out to the scout store and fill the closet with the goods. Sadly, it's probably too late for this draft. We'd be better off just making a composite of Mayock, Kiper and Akh's respective big boards.

My only surprise is that it didn't happen today. Guess they wanted to give Zorn a break.

I'm really looking forward to that presser tomorrow. I don't want to see a bunch of smiles, either. I want to see and hear some nastiness bordering on arrogance coming from Shanahan. I want him to try to get the fans a little fired up after the metaphorical hell we've just endured.

I want him to challenge Wade Phillips to a cage match, Andy Reid to a 100-yard dash, and Tom Coughlin to a ... well, maybe he should leave Coughlin alone for now. That dude's nuts.

The sooner the better. We all knew this was the plan for a month now. Hire him...pat him on the back...and get him and Allen planning for the future. Hopefully "Redskins Decisions" means Allen + Shanny - Danny...but somehow I doubt it. Either way, I think Allen and Shanny (Shallen?) are strong enough of a Duo to force Danny's hand and at least stop him from making final decisions.

If it has the name "Redskin" in it, it'll have Danny in it. You know, like "Redskins Decision", "Redskins Type Player", ""Redskins Type Guy", "Redskins Football" or, perhaps most accurately, "4-12 is not Redskins Football", whatever that term is supposed to mean anymore, lol.

Actually, I know what that means these days. The terms are little different from cliche. "Danny Football" *is* "Redskins Football". A "Redskins Type Guy" is a "Danny Type Guy", in that he'll pal around with Danny by the pool at the pro bowl after another losing season.

Well, I guess we know where the priorities lie.

BA + Shanny is a MONSTER upgrade over Vinny + Zorn. BA and Shanny might not be Bethard + Gibbs but you can't deny the upgrade. At least now we have a true GM and we're operating (at least it looks like we will) based on the proper blueprint: Owner > GM > HC.

Open Letter to Mike Shannahan
(If you are the 2010 Redskins Coach)

Welcome aboard!

That’s the last nice thing you will read from me!
Your past performance and record means squat to me!
Your successes and failures mean nothing to me.

You are joining an organization with the most passionate wide spread fan base in the NFL. (Dallas Cowboys - America’s Team - be damned!)
You will be held accountable from Day One at a level you have never experienced. Bear in mind the adage: “You are hired to be fired”.

I will expect you and GM Bruce Allen to cut to the chase and evaluate the talent that is here. No one on the present roster gets a free ride! Determine the obvious needs that have been grossly ignored for too long! I will expect you to put forth a well thought out plan for the future of the Redskins that does not depend on the immediate quick fix. The offensive and defensive lines must be the building blocks of the plan and the team. Build a competitive dynasty.

You must plan to be competitive and be productive. Your being productive means that you start at a base line and show improvement every game throughout the season. The wins and losses will come, but they will mean more if there is a significant improvement every game. That is what you are being paid to accomplish. Bring in the best available assistant coaches who can work with you and for you. Let friendship and nepotism be subsidiary in your choice. Demand the best from the assistants; you will bear the criticism and the compliments on their performance.

You have a talent that is recognized; don’t obscure it by letting the obscene amount of money that Daniel Snyder uses to feed his ego interfere with your competent coaching decisions. Evaluate the talent you hire; don’t allow Daniel Snyder to play his “fantasy football team” personnel games.

You are joining a once proud and distinguished NFL franchise that Daniel Snyder mutilated and raped into a mediocre shell of its former greatness.
Respect the owner but be firm in your commitment to work with the GM on the plan you conceive and execute.

“Failure is not an option”.

Still not a done deal and doesnt seem like there will be an announcement tomorrow either...

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/01/04/mystery-team-is-interested-in-shanahan/

If another team truly wants Shanahan, that team needs to make its plans known soon. Still, it doesn't appear that a deal will be done in the immediate future. Per Schefter, the meeting between Shanahan and Snyder is focusing on "organizational structure," not the amount of money Shanahan will be paid.

Well, this is at least a step in the right direction, if true. In all honesty, all the recent firings & hirings were exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for when I was wishing for a 3-and-13 season. I didn't really want to lose all those games, but I felt strongly that that would be the best way to bring about the much-needed huge changes.

And now, here we are. Not anywhere close to where we want to be, but we're at least going in the right direction. Let's hope it proves true and continues.

Im fine with him putting Danny in his place just dont wont to have Shanny play us and end up left with the same type of search that yielded Jim Zorn. After this season, and with the hope that was provided by Vinny's resignation, it would be too much to bear to watch all the relevant coaching candidates turn us down again.

I looked up Shanahan on Wikepedia and they say this " Shanahan has made his return to the NFL in 2010 with his new contract as the head coach with the Washington Redskins. Along with general manager Bruce Allen, many changes are expected to be made within the organization."

Odd....this is what I found on Wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Shanahan
"...In the early 2009 NFL Season, it was reported that the Washington Redskins were after Shanahan for their head coach, replacing Jim Zorn. Although this was reported by several media outlets, the Washington Redskins Vice President of Football Operations, Vinny Ceratto, stated that a coaching change would not be considered until the end of the season.[3] On November 18, 2009 ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Buffalo Bills had contacted Shanahan about their head coaching vacancy after the team parted ways with former coach Dick Jauron.[4] The Redskins rumor resurfaced following the firing of Jim Zorn on January 4, 2010.
[edit] Reported talks with the Redskins

With Vinny Cerrato resigning from the Washington Redskins on December 17, 2009, the Washington Redskins hired Bruce Allen, son of late Redskins Hall of Fame coach George Allen. The Redskins and Shanahan then began talks over Washington's then-occupied head-coaching position.[5] He is expected to be formally announced as the Redskins' head coach on January 5, 2010.[6]

that play encapsulates all the worst of the Zorn era.. to be fair, when he was riding high last year at 6-2, we were making aggressive plays to close out the Eagles and the Cowboys.. how hard did we fall from that point ?

1) Who will Shanny/Allen bring in as the D-coordinator?

2) Does anyone think he'll keep Campbell for the final year of JC's contract?

3) What free agents will they target?

Mike Shanahan reaches deal to coach Redskins

Mike Shanahan has reached an agreement in principal to become the new head coach of the Washington Redskins, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.

The Redskins are making plans for Shanahan to sign his contract and announce his hiring Wednesday.

The hiring should be well received by Broncos owner Pat Bowlen who figures to save roughly $7 million now that his coach from 1995-2008 has landed elsewhere.

Shanahan is to receive a five-year contract from the Redskins at approximately the same salary he had during his final contract with the Broncos. He was drawing approximately $7 million a year with Denver — and still had three years remaining on his deal when he was fired nearly a year ago.

The Broncos will pay approximately $3.5 million each in 2010 and 2011 to essentially have Shanahan coach the Redskins. Then again, Bowlen will also save roughly $3.5 million each of the next two years now that their former coach is no longer unemployed.

With the Redskins, Shanahan will work in concert with general manager Bruce Allen much as he did in Denver with Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist from 2002-07. During that six-year Shanahan-Sundquist run, the Broncos compiled five consecutive winning seasons, three consecutive playoff appearances, and a 58-38 record. The Broncos went 13-3 and hosted the AFC championship game in 2005 — the last time they played in the postseason.

In that business partnership, Sundquist oversaw the draft, contracts and roster construction, but Shanahan had final say authority on every decision.

Shanahan, who will turn 58 during the 2010 preseason, has a 154-103 record, including playoffs, as an NFL head coach, including an 8-12 mark from 1988-89 with the Los Angles Raiders. He guided the Broncos to back-to-back Super Bowl titles in 1997-98, but with quarterback John Elway retiring after the 1998 season, Shanahan guided the Broncos to only one playoff victory in their next 10 seasons.

Yeah, I'm sure he did. Expect a statement from Gibbs shortly after Shanny's presser.

Gibbs released a statement about the Vinny firing, so I would expect him to release a statement about Shanny. I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't, only that I would expect him to given that they're both SB winning coaches.

I heard the same thing reported by either 106.7 The Fan or ESPN radio.
