View Full Version : There's a Hog in the Hall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://views.washingtonpost.com/theleague/nflnewsfeed/2010/01/grimm-among-hall-of-fame-finalists.html

List includes:
Grimm (OL)
Jerry Rice (WR)
Emmitt Smith (RB)
Don Coryell (Coach)
Tim Brown (WR)
Cris Carter (WR)
Roger Craig (RB)
Dermontti Dawson (OL)
Richard Dent (DL)
Charles Haley (DL)
Rickey Jackson (LB)
Cortez Kennedy (DL)
John Randle (DL)
Andre Reed (WR)
Shannon Sharpe (TE)

Only one other O-lineman on the ballot and you would think Grimm gets in first.
Rice and Smith are sure things. I think that shuts out other RBs and WRs. You just don't put them on stage w/ Rice and Smith.

My vote would be for Grimm, Coryell, Smith, Rice, Randle, and under-appreciated Rickey Jackson.

If I were a voter, my 7 would be in Bold.

Partially, because I agree with you. I don't think another RB or WR should share the stage with Emmitt & Rice, respectively. Dent and Rickey Jackson should have made it long ago, so my votes for them are in part, to fix an ongoing injustice. John Randle in a way revolutionized the 4-3 DT position, and whenever you scare an O lineman so bad that he pisses himeslf, that's HOF worthy in my eyes.

Grimm is a homer pick for me, but it also corrects an ongoing injustice. To not have one member of the best Offensive line of the 80's in the Hall is a travesty of justice. Grimm was the hands down best at his position for nearly a decade, on a team that produced 3 rings and 4 trips to the Superbowl. He anchored the line of the most prolific offense in NFL history at the time, an offense that would keep that title for some 16 years.

Coryell deserves it for sure, but I never think that a Coach or Exec should get in at the expense of a player, so that is why he doesn't get my vote.

Lastly, Sharpe. Also can be said to have revolutionized his position. Contributed to 3 SB rings on 2 different teams and is hands down a 1st ballot guy.

If it were up to me, this would be the 2010 class of the HOF.

Keino, only 5 of those guys make it. There will be some old timers list that is simply yes or no that determine the other 2.

edit:

The seniors list, they are simply a yes or no on both.

Dick Lebeau
Floyd Little

Grimm and Jacoby both made the team of the eighties, and have not received any recognition. There are only 16 Gs and 16 Ts for all nfl history that made all decade teams. How hard is that? And the furor over Monk. And the swooning over the 49ers players from the eighties vs us.

That he isn't in makes me sick. That Jacoby will never be in makes me ignore the process entirely.

He practically invented the DT position. He made the Pro Bowl several years despite the fact that he was playing on mediocre teams.

Merlin Olsen made it. Why not his Pro Bowl teammate Alex?

Sharpe got hosed last year when the voters decided to vote in Ralph Wilson at the last minute. Ralph Wilson, career loser. Yeah, that guy deserved to be enshrined. Anyway, I hope that Sharpe makes it in. Grimm deserves it, but there are too many flashy names on that list ahead of him. He does have Peter King on his side all-of-a-sudden, so that could make the difference for him. At least, it could get him into the round of 10, and he'll be beat out by Bud Adams (he should go in the HoF for his bird-flipping).

cal_junior

I hope Grimm gets in but I doubt it.

Peter King doesn't provide any reason for optimism:

"There's a maximum of five modern-era candidates who can be inducted each year; the two Senior men are voted on separately. With Jerry Rice and Emmitt Smith sure to be first-ballot players, that will leave three spots among the 13 other finalists, and I honestly cannot give you a good feeling about who will make it. I believe Don Coryell, Richard Dent, Cris Carter and Shannon Sharpe are close, but that guarantees them nothing."

Especially the way he gave Monk no respect at all. Chris Carter is no Art Monk or Jerry Rice. Good Luck to Russ, but there are alot of great players there, and usually Lineman are a second thought.

I wouldn't go so far to call Ralph Wilson a career loser. He was a major player with the founding of the AFL and the Bills did win two AFL Championships.

I am with you on this. I have said for a long time that Jacoby is the Hog most deserving of enshrinement. Grimm is certainly deserving, but it baffles me that Jacoby gets no consideration. He truly revolutionized the position of offensive tackle, ushering in the era of the 300-lb. left tackle, and his battles with some of the RE's and 3-4 OLBs helped make marquees stars out of all 3 positions and make left tackle the premier position on the line. He owned every guy he faced in the toughest division in football (except LT), and there probably hasn't been a better run-blocking left tackle since he moved inside to make way for Lachey. He and Grimm should both be in representing the Hogs.
fox and espn both said that russ grimm is also a canidate for the buffalo bills head coaching job.
He should seriously consider taking it. His luster, such as it is, may take a hit with Leinart inheriting the starting job in Arizona. Grimm may never have a better opportunity to be a head coach.
He practically invented the DT position. He made the Pro Bowl several years despite the fact that he was playing on mediocre teams.

In my book, he should get it just for punching that horse in Blazing Saddles.

Carter has always been a pompous, classless jerk. I hope he gets stiffed the way Monk got stiffed for years. I would take Monk on my team over Carter 1,000 times over. There is a reason why Art has 3 rings and Carter has zero.

I am going to take some abuse for saying this, but I can't honestly say that Grimm was a better G/C than Dawson was a C. Dawson was the best center in football for his entire career, taking over that mantle when Dwight Stephenson retired due to injury. Grimm and Dawson really both belong in the Hall.

Grimm gets the nod in my opinion, because not only was he the best G in the NFL for (arguably) a decade, he was also versatile enough to play C when Bostic was injured and was damned good there too.

It's one of those things where I know I didn't get to this point by myself. I tell that to people all the time. I was lucky enough to be drafted by a team with a new head coach that was giving young guys a chance to play. I was fortunate to play with great players, and we had to live up to that nickname they gave us when we got to our first Super Bowl. This is about all the success we had there.

Congratulations to Russ Grimm on his overdue and well-deserved honor. I hope that Jacoby gets consideration next, although I am not holding my breath. I strongly believe that Jacoby deserves to be in. all the hogs deserve to be in the hall.i remember floyd little too.he was'nt really good enough for the HOF in my view.i thought shannen sharpe deserved the 1st ballott too.nice to see chris carter did'nt make it again!!!!:)
Chris Who?
So I have seen some Steelers fans crying about Grimm making it and Dawson not. Seeing Steelers fans cry about the Hall of Fame is like Bill Gates complaining about the cost of something.
LOL! We should have more guys in from our glory era. To me, Jacoby is the most glaring ommision. If there was a HOF for blocking TEs, Donny Warren would be in it. Mann and Manley are arguable. Dave Butz could have been a HOFer had he applied himself more. Jim Lachey deserves to be in, but may not have enough years in the league to get consideration. And Beathard deserves some consideration, for his work here and also for his work in Miami and San Diego. Drafting Leaf hurt his repuation, but a lot of other guys would have taken Leaf that year as well. In fact if Pollian had taken Leaf instead, Beathard might already be in.

I wanted to get by here for a handful of days now and just haven't had the time but I definately wanted to say congrats to Skins fans on Russ finally getting into the Hall. The guy certainly deserved to be in.

This was a great, very deserving, class.
