Mark Maske, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins LB Jessie Armstead and other veterans will likely call a players-only meeting this week to discuss the team's propensity for penalties. "It's getting to a point where we're all going to have to get together because it's hard enough beating teams in this league [without] beating yourself also," Armstead said. "That's probably the hardest thing in this league, not beating yourself."

This sort of meeting tends to take place for the Skins at least once a year. It has worked in the past...lets hope it works this time.

I hope Jesse rips everyone a new rear end and maybe they turn this around

There are clearly some Vets that are doing there job that are pissed. Lavar looked ticked at some of the penalties. he was relatively penalty free this week, except for the bogus call. I remember seeing an angry face on Randy Thomas during one of the false starts. These are the guys that need to take hold and claim onwership of this team and convey that enough is enough.

I am very pleased to see Armstead step up. I was glad to see Thomas' comment as well, which I am sure was aimed at every lineman, Samuels and Jansen included where he stated that false starts happen because the guys need to refocus and concentrate. Amen randy.

Enough with the excuses, your are Pros concentrate on the task at hand.

I agree... it will be good to see some of the guys take some ownership. This team has lacked this sort of presence for years... can't sit back and let Bruce do all the talkin!

remember 2 years ago when LA and the others had the meeting after the 0-5 start? remember that we won 5 straight after that? Look for a new attitude next week. Look for a hell of a lot more pass rush too, i think we were pulling a Kornheiser looking like we dont have a pass rush and then rushing the hell outta the "great" brad johnson. which is bs ne way. he sucks

I have always thought that these types of meetings were a.)overated and b.) shameful. Overated because if things turn around, people always act as if something magical happened behind closed doors that made these guys finally "get it". Shameful because it shouldn't have to take a few vocal millionaires to have to holler at a bigger group of millionaires to get them to get their asses in gear. These guys are proffesionals for crying out loud. I also don't like it because I think that it gives the impression that these guys don't believe in their coaches. What are they going to do, tell each other in the meeting that it's time to start listening to the coaches and to stop the stupid mistakes? Shouldn't have to huddle behind closed doors to get that point driven in IMO.

Having said all that, I do hope that something good/great comes out of this latest meeting, but I hope even more that the need for these pow-wows would just go away.

I get your point rskinsfan10, but the way we have been playing I take what ever we can get or try to improve has a team. So I'll take some magic behind closed doors, I don't care how they do it I just hope it works. Seems like we should of fiquired all this stuff out in pre-season, but I say let 'em work it out and hopefully they'll start working together. I agree with you, but hey also I say it's worth a shot.

I also understand what you're saying, Kenny, but I have to disagree. Having been part of a few of these meetings, I can tell you they really do make a difference. It changes the attitude of the team. I for one think it's a great decision, and about time. Let's see if it works.

I too have been apart of those types of meetings, and my feelings for them come from my own personal experiences. For the most part, all they are about is reaffirming the obvious. The ones that I took part of offered nothing different as far as in what was said verbally from what the coaches had been harping on the entire time. The Marty meeting was different in a sense. He had lost control of the team and the players didn't believe in the system nor themselves. From what I have gathered, Spurrier is in no danger of losing this team. Over and over I hear them taking ownership of the mistakes that they have made. I think they already realize that the mistakes are on them and only them. I just don't think that you should allow things to spiral out of control to the point that you feel the need to have to call these meetings. Hey, I know my feelings on this are in the minority here. Just my opinion.

For what its worth...I was playing Madden tonight, and Lavar intercepted a Brad Johnson pass and took it to the house.

I'm glad they're having the meeting. I just hope it helps.

ESPN is awesome. I've played both and I prefer ESPN. Kenny and I have been playing over the net the last couple of days. He's up on my 2-0 but I'll bounce back. It works very over the net too. We both have high-speed so I'm sure that helps. We get a waiting for remote system every now and then but it's up only a second or less. Also, the Skins have some very cool unis too. The last game, we both used throwback unis. Kenny use the 70th anniversay unit with a white jersey and I had the uni we wore several years ago with no logo. Pretty cool.

I've really been won over by Jessie Armstead. People say he's washed up/he's old. They're idiots - this guy is great.

Love his play, love his smarts, love his attitude. He told the press after the 'Skins were eliminated from the playoffs last year - some people will play like the season is over & that is when we will see who belongs on this team next year & who doesn't.

He's a smart player too. Didn't get burnt on his sack/safety. Didn't get stupid penalties especially on 3/29. Was quicker to pick up Marvin Lewis's system than either Arrington or Trotter. He was a great pick up.

I agree with Kenny on these "players only" meetings. These guys should be meeting each day after practice as units (LB, O-line, D-line, QB/WR/RB ....etc) to have some airing out sessions.
Ghee, let's think about this, we've had two years now of these "Players Only" meeting being reported and it has gotten us where???.... NOT to the playoffs.

Player's meetings are a short-term fix. No single meeting is going to propel any team to the Super Bowl. The players know we are lucky to be 3-2...but they also know they could have been 5-0, had they had their heads screwed on straight.

Player's meetings have had a short-term success on the Skins in the past. Hopefully it will again. In general, I find it hard to believe a meeting like this couldn't be anything but positive to the team.

yes, yes it does. :)

about the meeting....i think they are a good way for players to air out all the problems they have with each other with out any animosity in the lockeroom. weve got enough fiery guys on this team for a meeting like this to make a difference.

I can see the players only meeting debate both ways. On one hand, an out of the ordinary pow wow with some raw emotion from peers instead of authority figures (coaches) can possibly galvanize a team and relieve mistrust of the fellows sitting next to you in the lockeroom. On the other hand, what if the penalties persist and we get skunked by TB this week? Will the team be more apt to lay down and die the next several games thereafter as alot may feel that 'everything has been tried' to remedy the false starts and critical personal fouls/taunting? The easy answer is that they are all 'pros' and should just 'do their job'. Those bland, standard issue comments aren't going to motivate anyone into improving. Therefore, I guess I'll conclude that Jessie's meeting is a good idea and the team will simply have to remain focused no matter what the meeting does or doesn't produce on the field.

I heard in the "Franchise Mode" in Madden '04 you can call a "players only" meeting to try and regroup the team. :D :
