It'll be interesting to see how many UFA's we can get. I wonder if there's any star power in Shanahan to attract them?

According to that site, the Redskins are one of nine teams that haven't signed anyone yet...wasn't Shanahan supposed to go to that Draft Party at FedEx...hope that isn't the reason why, lol

Yes, he played great during his Freshman year helping LSU win the National Title. Flynn started, but Perriloux saw snaps and was terrific in limited action. He was LSU's top recruit and I believe he may have been the Top QB prospect coming out of high school.

He has a great arm and pretty good pocket awareness. Believe it or not, some people compare his ability to McNabb. He has strong arm and quick release. However, he never generated the same buzz once he was dismissed from LSU. Many people doubt he has the commitment and maturity to succeed at the pro level.

These are the guys I want. I think each of them would have a legitimate shot to make our team:
QB Darryl Clark, Penn State-mobile QB with strong arm. Intense competitor with leadership qualities. Perfect candidate for Shanahan to develop, non-threatening to McNabb.
HB Keith Totson, Oklahoma St-productive runner who fits a zone-blocking scheme. Can catch the ball out of the backfield as well.
FB Richard Dickson-like the guy we drafted, a TE who would make a better FB in a WCO.
WR Freddie Barnes, Bowling Green-caught 155 passes last year. Shifty, savvy, runs precise routes and can get open. Achiever, can maybe push our young WRs. Shanahan always likes to bring up Rod Smith, who starred for him as a UDFA.
C/G Sean Allen, East Carolina-can backup at all 3 interior line positions.
OG Sergio Render, VA Tech-strong and plays with nasty attitude. RG candidate.
OT Tony Washington, Abeliene Christian-very torn about this guy. A great prospect, likely would have been drafted but for something really terrible he did when he was younger.
OT Casey Knips, SD State-developmental left tackle, already a good cut blocker.
DE Greg Middleton, Indiana-looked like a 1st or 2nd rounder his sophomore year, slid off precipitously since then.
NT Travis Ivey, Maryland- 6'4", 341 lbs. Plugger in the middle.
MLB Mike McLaughlin, Boston College-great instincts and football intelligence, student of game, can stack and shed blockers, strong at point of attack, makes defesive calls.
OLB Simoni Lawrence, Minnesota-nickel LB. Can cover backs on 3rd downs.
FS Curt Coleman, Ohio State-good instincts, 9 INTs last two years.
PK Brett Swenson, Michigan State-best PK available in draft. Competition for Gano.

I, too, had a class with Marques Slocum my senior year of undergrad. It was actually one of professor Hagen’s classes, one day, we split into groups to do survey work. When one of the group members called on Mr. Slocum to answer a question, he said, “Aw, sh**, I don’t know – I’m not used to standing up in class. I’m used to standing up to get awards and sh**.” And then he left the room.

Clark told his school paper (http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive/2010/04/25/clark_signs_with_redskins.aspx?fbc_channel=1#%7B%2 2id%22%3A0%2C%22sc%22%3A%22http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebo ok.com%2Fxd_receiver_v0.4.php%22%2C%22sf%22%3A%22l oginStatus%22%2C%22sr%22%3A2%2C%22h%22%3A%22loginS erver%22%2C%22sid%22%3A%220.455%22%2C%22t%22%3A0%7 D%5B0%2C%22loginStatus%22%2C%22InitLogin%22%2C%7B% 22baseDomain%22%3A%22www.collegian.psu.edu%22%2C%2 2connectState%22%3A3%2C%22perms%22%3Anull%2C%22pub licSessionData%22%3Anull%2C%22session%22%3Anull%2C %22settings%22%3A%7B%22inFacebook%22%3Afalse%2C%22 locale%22%3A%22en_US%22%7D%7D%2Cfalse%5D) that he had signed with the Skins.

Jay Paterno, Penn State's QB coach, tweeted this two hours ago (http://twitter.com/JayPaterno/status/12846028168):

"Redskins & Shanahan's system will be a great fit for @captainclark17. Good luck to Daryll."

I know we have seen a number of contributors through UFA, but I didn't realize how important these guys are. ESPN post draft coverage had a stat that of all the players who started at least one game in 2009, over 17% were UFA. That was the second highest number behind only first round draft picks.

I like this guy, good speed, decent arm, winning attitude and lots of athleticism. He should push Colt for the 3rd QB spot... I wonder if he'll be wearing #17?

Keiland Williams RB LSU is an interesting one. Decent back/not great, but a hard worker. If he comes in and does well on special teams, he just might have a shot at the #3. With CP/LJ/WP all around 30 and not playing special teams maybe one of them goes.

Also dont want to start a new thread, but i saw that DT John Henderson was released. Not sure he is a NT and he is 31, but he is 6'3/335# and i think he played college ball with Haynesworth. THink i would still rather go young.

Redskins
Logan Paulsen, TE, UCLA
Anderson Russell, FS, Ohio State
Marques Slocum, DT, Eastern Arizona
Keiland Williams, RB, LSU
Daryll Clark, QB, PSU
Maurice Greer, RB, Troy
Tony Nelson, RB, UMass (Tryout)
Jaevery McFadden, LB, Wisconsin (Tryout)
Derrick Townsel, WR, Murray State (Tryout)
Bo McNally, S, Stanford (Tryout)
Klint Kubiak, S, Colorado State (Tryout)

I wish they would sign Danario Alexander WR Missouri, and Brian Jackson CB from Oklahoma. Roster is probably at max.

Wow, he ran right over and through that Landry "tackle" lol. BTW, I liked the speed on that LB chasing him (#58). Too bad he gave up on the play without at least diving at Greer. I think he could have gotten him.

this guy could have a future with the redskins, i know this isnt the pros, but he has an impressive resume from high school, picked up this info. from lsu sports.
HIGH SCHOOL
One of the top running back prospects in the country ... Arguably, the top prep school prospect for the Class of 2006 ... Completed his eligibility at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. ... Became the first running back in school history to rush for more than 1,000 yards ... Finished the season with 160 carries for 1,325 yards and 12 touchdowns ... Rushed for more than 2,500 yards and 30 touchdowns in his junior season at Northside High School in Lafayette ... Named the offensive MVP of Class 4A in Louisiana in 2004 .. Ranked as the nation's No. 3 running back prospect by Scout.com ... Coached at Hargrave by Robert Prunty.

Skins are at roster limit of 86 already..I think.
Our roster after making the 6 draft choices is at 86, but only 72 count against the 80 - man roster limit, because only 72 players have signed contracts for 2010. Of the remaining 14:
*3 are restricted free agents who have not signed their one-year contract tenders for 2010 (Reed Doughty, Roger McIntosh and Carlos Rogers).
*5 are unrestricted free agents who have not signed with anyone (Todd Yoder, Levi Jones, Renaldo Wynn, Hunter Smith and Ethan Albright).
*6 draft choices. They don't count against the 80-man roster limit until they sign their contracts.
Therefore, we can sign 8 undrafted free agents without having to cut anyone. We can also invite an unlimited (I think) number of players to mini-camp on a tryout basis, just as we did after the last one (which resulted in our signing 2 WRs and a RB). We have to cut a player for every college free agent we sign beginning with the 9th one.

I really like the Darryl Clark signing. He could be a keeper, either over Brennan, or on the practice squad.

RT @UMassAthletics: NFL update: RB Tony Nelson to get tryouts with Redskins and Browns. If I were Tony Nelson, I would just stay in the bottle with Jeannie all day long, except for quick trips to Cape Canaveral.

IMO the grownups are shotgunning positions that they don't expect an acceptable talent to be released, such as WR and DL. I am looking for LB and S, and maybe OT, to be addressed ;ater.

UDFA bring cheap, young and highly motivated talent to a team. Colt isn't going to float through this preseason like he did last year. If he gets beat out, like he did last year with Chase Daniels, he's going to be gone. I see far more real competition this year in every position - with some older vets getting let go.

given the number of vets we have added to WR and other spots, it is highly likely we have our eye on someone who will probably be a roster cut..
with Haslett, it could easily be Atogwe.. or perhaps Sharper ??

Klint Kubiak out of Colorado State University: He is a super smart safety, great for CSU. But he did have several injuries, a shoulder, ulcer, among others. He could have a future. And yes, he is Gary Kubiak of the Texans' son

Damn, Stillers got Ciron Black.

It'll be interesting to see how many UFA's we can get. I wonder if there's any star power in Shanahan to attract them?

I seriously doubt UDFAs are concerned with the star power of a head coach. I think most UDFAs sign with teams they believe they have the best shot at sticking.

I got to see him play at the CU-CSU game; I think he had one big hit on a receiver. He was pretty good, as I recall, but I think this is more just a favor to GK than anything else, though. Shanny's probably know the kid since he was in diapers.

I think that is possible. I am a student at CSU, so I have followed him all through his time here. He was always a very smart, hard working player. Always around the play. His injuries really held him back, which was a shame. I think he will make the team though...

I noticed on kffl that the Saints released udfa ILB Jason Beauchamp 6'3" 244 pounds....runs a 4.7 and did 31 reps at one of his workouts. Got to see him play at UNLV...played with a decent motor and seemed to be around the ball...wonder if there is any interest. He would probably end up just being a body but cant hurt to take a look at him.

There are currently 15 o-lineman listed on the roster. There's only so much time to get a look at guys, so barring a known quantity becoming available I don't know how many more guys to expect.
