Ravens' Cody fails conditioning test (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp10/news/story?id=5413427)

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens second-round draft pick Terrence Cody failed his conditioning test Tuesday and was not permitted to participate in the team's first training camp practice.

The 360-pound defensive tackle out of Alabama signed a three-year contract Monday and arrived at McDaniel College eager to launch his NFL career. But after flunking his physical, he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list (PUP).

"Part of our process is everybody's got to pass the conditioning test to be sure they're ready to compete," coach John Harbaugh said after Tuesday's practice. "It's going to be hot out here, our practices are fast. We've got to be sure guys are physically ready to practice at the pace we're practicing at.

"So, when he passes the conditioning test, he'll practice."

Years ago, Cody weighed more than 400 pounds. After falling to the second round on draft day, he said, "I felt it was my weight and stuff that dropped me to this late."

And now, his NFL career will get off to a late start.

"I'm not surprised. Every year certain guys struggle with that," Harbaugh said. "Guys learn there's a certain level of expectation in terms of conditioning that goes with being an NFL player, especially for this team. So he's going to have to get himself in the type of shape he needs to be in."

Cody was drafted 57th overall by the Ravens. Baltimore's other second-round pick, linebacker Sergio Kindle of Texas, fractured his skull while falling down a flight of stairs last week and probably will miss the entire camp.

Ten players are currently on Baltimore's PUP list: Cody; safety Ed Reed; cornerbacks Fabian Washington, Lardarius Webb, Prince Miller and Walt Harris; linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo; offensive tackle Oniel Cousins; running back Matt Lawrence; and wide receiver Rodelin Anthony.

First, their rookie LBer [Sergio Kindle] gets hurt, now Mt. Cody can't pass his physical.

i have a warm spot in my heart for bmore and the ravens. i feel pretty bad for this about kindle - sounds like the dude was in a friend's house and fell down the stairs in the dark.

cody on the other hand - they knew they'd be taking a risk with this guy. he is so large... a definitely blob to absorb double-teams.

I respect the Ravens organization, but I hate their owner and their fan base. Too many bandwagoning ex-Redskin fans who jumped ship to the Ravens when they started winning. Not all of them, mind you, but enough to make them insufferable.

That said, I hate to see folks like Kindle get hurt -- especially a non-football injury. As for Cody, he's known his weight and his general all-around conditioning was a problem months ago. He needs to step it up.

mount cody reminds me of william perry, only a lot bigger with more talent.if he hires a conditioner,he can beat this and play eventually this year.i'd be shocked if kindle can come back and play this season from a fractured skull however.that does'nt seem an injury you can recover quickly from does it?

was thinking the same thing re: the fractured skull.

i also have a soft spot for kindle - as he replaced orakpo at texas. hopefully he'll be as good for them as rak is good for us.

Ravens need to investigate the fractured skull. Hazing?

Sports radio here was laughing at Cody on Tues. Said he showed up at training camp eating a bag of crab cakes... ha.

Kindle's accident is kind of scary. Fracture skull - I'd say he should be shut down for the entire season.
Cody ...... sorry but can't feel for the dude. Biggest job of his life and he can't prepare season. Sure it made take extra training in the off-season for him BUT it's his job now. How many millions are the Ravens paying him. What an idiot - Totally belongs in Baltimore ............
