WASHINGTON -- Former major league pitcher Roger Clemens is under indictment, accused of lying to Congress about using steroids.

Clemens faces charges of obstruction of Congress, making false statements and perjury. The New York Times first reported the indictment.

Clemens and his former trainer, Brian McNamee, testified under oath before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform in 2008. McNamee, who cooperated with federal authorities and with baseball's Mitchell report on performance-enhancing drugs in baseball, said Clemens had used steroids, while Clemens flatly denied having ever used them and accused McNamee of lying.

Martha Stewart went to federal prison for 5 mos for lying to fed agents. Gov Blago was just found guilty of the same thing, so he'll surely do time similar in length to Martha's, maybe longer since he was an elected official. But lying to Congress? I assume the penalty will be pretty harsh. He might should seek a plea deal or something.

The scary part was that he DIDN'T have to testify and instead volunteered to do it.

Volunteered may be putting it lightly. He pretty well demanded the hearing. He gets what he deserves for being an arrogant knucklehead.
