Haven't started a thread in a looooong time and I was just curious as to what people @ HR do for a living.
I'm a banker for BofA out here in Los Angeles (Beverly Hills). Just moved out here about 2 years ago from Fairfax. By the way, banking hours are great......but the job itself, nicely put, is horrible. I actually live about 2 blocks from the NFL Network studio in Culver City and once I finish school next year I'm going to try and apply for a job (it would be awesome if anyone has any contacts). However, working @ a bank in Los Angeles has its perks. I work right across the street from Cedars Sinai and a really upscale mall called the Beverly Center. Some of the athletes/celebrities I've met @ work:
Wes Welker, Miles Austin, Tommy Kelly, Antonio Cromartie, Shaun Phillips, Boyz II Men, Stacy Kiebler, Ron Artest, Flo-Rida, Chamillionaire, the Gastineau girls, Bryant McKinnie, Jim Bowden (who totally trashed the Nationals ownership when I asked if he thought we were going to be able to sign Strausburg last year)......can't think of anymore
Welker was out here rehabbing his knee back in May. He's ridiculously short (I'm 5'9), but he's a nice guy. I had a nice conversation with Miles Austin back in April. I told him that the Redskins are my team and he laughed. I said that we needed a WR and he said to have Dan Snyder give him a call (which I told him I would, so he's probably pretty dissapointed that didn't happen). Miles was actually extremely genuine and very friendly.
So back to the question @ hand. What do you do?

Miles Austin would be better than any WR we have on our roster. As far as what I do, I'm now a Senior Analyst for General Dynamics and work in Command Control Demonstrations and Assessments. What that all means is that I'm a Department of Defense contractor. Before that, I served 20 years as a member of the US Air Force and just retired from active duty in April.

I am a warranted contracting officer with the Federal Aviation Administration. We do major systems acquisitions and airport construction. Radar systems, safety systems - that sort of thing. I also write agreements for the design and contruction of Air Traffic Control Towers all over the country - Nantucket, Greenwood Mississippi, San Francisco, Frederick Maryland, Medford Oregon, Oshkosh Wisconsin, and Pago Pago American Samoa to name a few. SFO is the largest one at $70 million. I enjoy the challenge of high dollar negotiations and making agreements with folks from around the country. It's high stress but also very satisfying.

It's not that different economy wise, but the people out here are ALL opportunists. It's really hard to meet anyone that's genuine. Everyone out here wants to know what you can do for them, or how you can help them.

i started late and try to make up for it. i'll never be as good as i want to be. but i am good enough to play, get paid for it, and enjoy people dancing or tapping a toe. you are never too late to enjoy playing music.

yeah. i still keep up with what is new and developing in my field. more of my cases now are forensic so i have to stay current and know the literature cold because otherwise it could get ugly in court.
i am still intensely curious and it is a bad day that i dont learn something. i read about just almost anything medical. as long as my brain and mouth work i intend to continue working. i might be old, but there is no excuse for getting lazy and stupid. besides, i hope to stay sharp long enough to see that *%$### cracker Jimmy Carter go totally senile

I own a staffing service that caters to former Redskins. I helped get Jacquez Green a valet job. I placed Trung Candidate into a job scooping dog poop in the park. Scott Cloman is happy clerking at the Thrift Store. Albert Connell, upon release from prison next month, is slated to work the toll booths on I-95. And I helped Shane Matthews land a gig detailing children's scooters.

I will take a look at the guys above.
Yea, didn't you believe that a certain poster's real name was Augustus?
In her defense, would it surprise you at all to find out his name actually is Augustus?

My folks have more style than that. I'm sure that they would have gone with Titus or Flavus.

Maybe they do, but I'd still peg you as an Augustus.

Have you ever read the Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee mysteries by Tony Hillerman, I have been re-reading them these past couple of months.
I will take a look at the guys above.
i have read EVERY book that hillerman wrote in that series.. loved them.. it resonated especially with me because i lived in that area of the country for about a year
sadly, he passed away a couple of years ago and is missed. interesting person, he came to fiction writing very late in his life. began in his 50's. i believe he might have been a beat reporter before that and was looking for something to take up his time.. i figure he never dreamed he would have the commercial success he had

Yea, didn't you believe that a certain poster's real name was Augustus? No, I made up the name Augustus because he (To this day) refuses to tell me his real name. But I can call him Flavus...Could easily refer to him as Flav....

You left out Cletus.
Thats more Greek than Roman, so I think that they would have excluded it.
