Well folks, it looks like it may be time to see the man that may end up being the Redskins best running back...."The" Sultan....McCullough. Speed, toughness and he might be able to block even.
Stay tuned.

Wander if Sultan will get any touches? With Canidate out, this may be a great time for Ladell Betts to step and prove he is the running back for this system and this team. This is a golden opportunity for Ladell. Would it not be awesome to see someone like Sultan come in and rush for over 100 yards and throw the backfield into disarray!

????? Hmmmm. Haven't we heard this speed thing before.
I don't see Sultan being any more affective than our current group. YES, he may be brought up due to injuries BUT ........

Wouldn't surprise me if the team deactivates Canidate for a week and brings Sultan off the inactive list for a game. Maybe get him a few touches. I expect Betts to carry the ball most of the time, though.

I'm still waiting to see Morton get a decent shot at it. I would think he'd get Trungs touches rather then Sultan.

Agreed. I would like to reward Morton with more touches. He has great breakaway speed as well...
Morton's build and running style (and hair) remind me of Quentin Griffin in college. However, I'm not sure it's a style that always translates that well to the NFL. Morton is good as a change of pace/receiving type guy, but I wouldn't want to see him take a significant amount of carries.

I didn't realize Morton and Sultan were about the same weight...but Sultan has 4 inches on Morton! (I always thought they were similar in size)

Hmm, I'd like to see Sultan get some touches as well. It's a good opportunity for Ladell but he is nursing and ankle injury. I'd rather not risk more damage to it and have him out longer even though he returned to the game with it but was ineffective IMO. I'd sit him a week and see what this Sultan kid can do.

Sultan over Morton would be the way to go. He'll suprise the Bills. We need to keep Morton fresh for st. Buffalo has had terrible coverage teams over the past few seasons. This May be Morton's chance to bust one on the returns. Also, Lav Coles made his mark catching short slants/curls/outs from Pennington and then eating up the yak. With the altered playbook (shorter drops for Ramsey?) this may be his chance to be NFL Offensive Player of the Week. Maybe Rod Gardner will complete a route too and have a good game. What's going on with L. Jackson? We need a pass rush bad, especially against a wiley veteren like Bledsoe. He's like Brad Johnson(TB) not Doug Johnson(ATL). He'll pick us apart if we give him time. Is Jackson still injured?

Yeah Cam, I don't understand why we haven't seen Jackson yet. I just don't get it why Bruce is playing the entire game.

Yes, it's that attribute that pays dividends in the NFL. Are you trying to dismiss speed?! But what?! We haven't even seen Sultan how can you conclude anything about how affective he will be?
I for one want to see him get 10-15 carries/touches especially on Buffalo's turf where I think he will excel. I really don't see him blocking any better than Trung though but we'll have to see for ourselves.
I'd split the rest of the carries between Betts/Morton. Betts is hurt we don't need to lose him, this is a good oppurtunity to see what the other two can do.

Do u guys really think Sultan will be any more effective then Morton???
Don't give me the speed stuff because Morton is as fast as Sultan if not faster. Sultan looked good in the preseason but don't forget he was playing aganist 3rd stringers when he was in. Morton deserves the shot he earned it.

I really don't know Shaggy that's why I want to see him get his share of carries. It's never just speed, the guy plays football too, we just don't know how well he'll do in the pros until he does something on the field.

I dont think Upshaw stinks at all, not from what I saw. he gets in and makes plays. I think it is more of, we need to play Bruce because Bruce is Bruce.

Simply look at Emmitt Smith for the answer to why Bruce Smith is playing. The Cowboys fed Emmitt the ball to get him the record last year. We are doing the same thing with Bruce. The coaches (with a slight recommendation from DS I'm sure) are playing Bruce just to get him the sack record in a Skins uniform.
By the way, I'm a rookie to the boards and don't know all the rules. Are Cowboys references allowed???

Ok memorize this everyone... LaDaris. I've never seen a case where a Skins player had his name mentioned in so many versions since I heard the Titans broadcasters go from Ron Gardner, to Rod Garner in the same drive.

I wonder about L.D., though. He kicks ass in the second half of preseason games, but can he cut it under the bright lights? Marvin Lewis didn't play him much. Neither does George Edwards. Maybe there is a good reason.

Spence... Lewis didn't play him much because he had what I'll understatedly call a slight knee problem.
I got the feeling he hasn't seen time because of our logjam at DL right now. We have so many average players out there, and the apparent goal is to simply keep the line as fresh as possible (other than Bruce, for some reason). Guess they don't want to use a roster spot on an untested player who's essentially a rookie. I think Jackson has shown enough to warrant a try, and Upshaw definitely deserves more playing time.
As for Sultan, I doubt Morton is faster than him. He ran a 4.18 40 before the draft. Four eighteen. That's unreal.

well i think morton needs to score a TD like hall before talkin bout rushing for us....maybe if he can score at his REAL JOB then maybe we can give him a real shot at being our HB....sultan has the overall package, just needs game time to let it show...

Joe, I thought L.D. [I'm going to call him that until the rest of you go along] suffered his knee injury late in the season. Was that at the end of 2001 or 2002? If it was '02 then Lewis didn't play him much. If it was '01 then Schottenheimer didn't play him much. If he cannot beat out the stiffs we've got going on the DL right now, I've got to wonder if he's got any game at all.

According to the post he is just now getting back to a 100% healthy. I guess we will see this week what he has got and what he dosen't because it looks like he is going to see some action!

He was just drafted last year. He tore what I believe was his ACL during the preseason, and was put on the IR.
Patrick

THE Washington Post ALSO said, " Jackson has been on the Redskins' inactive list for each game this season. He probably is not bulky enough to be an every-down player but, in spots, could give the team something that it desperately needs - a speed rusher coming from the outside."
Let see: LADAIRIS is 6'2"/260 , Bruce is 6'4"/ 265, Upshaw is 6'4"/265, and Wynn is 6'3"/292.
Looks like we have three DE that should not be playing every down. IF they want bulk and speed, then pull Nic Clemons (6'-6"/278) of the PS and give him a chance. IF it's JUST speed from the outside then give Ladairis a shot.
Still say Sultan will not be our answer - give Cartwright and/or Johnson some more touches along the Chad.
AND is Sultan even on the PS (or the team). I just looked at the roster and he's not even listed????????????????

The Seahawks signed Jackson as a free agent in 2001 and cut him before the season began. He didn't play in a regular season game in 2001, but the Skins signed him as a free agent in January 2002. He ruptured his patella tendon in game 15 against Houston last year and was placed on injured reserve. [Had to go to the source for all that info.]

I'm just going by the redskins.com history. I do recall the Houston injury, though. It was right below me and it was obvious from the start that he was badly injured.

Holy crap!!! That's faster than Lav Coles, and Patrick Johnson!!!
Faster than Trung, Morton and Even Faster than Cliff Russel(whom I "heard" ran a 4.19/40)
Damn, I think I would be really happy if I was that fast. Even If I didn't play a sport. I'd run from cubicle to cubicle all day long with that speed! I could run faster than my dogs!:D

Too bad Football is not a track sport....you need more then speed to make it in the NFL. Pocket awareness and good blocking....I am not saying that Sultan does not have these things, but how much has he practiced with the 1st team offense. I want Ramsey to survive this season. So I hope the kid and block as well as he can run.

Thats right , football is not a track sport. Look at Trung, he is fast but he gets arm tackled all the time. I liked what I say in the preseason from Sultan. But I think they should give Morton the ball and see if he can break one.

Skins74, welcome to hailRedskins.com, thanks for joining us and contributing.
We could see some Sultan carries. Why not. He is like Trung, same type of back, speedy and shifty, and then you have the more power featured back in Betts. So, you get the same basic rotation.
Question becomes this...what happens tot he Redskisn backfield is Sultan has an explosive game. Just out of the blue, thinking outside the box, just imagine that predicament. Sultan comes in for a few carries, ends up ripping some, ctaching the ball out of the backfield well, then what happens when Trung returns?

Skins74 welcome.
I disagree Trung gets arm tackled all the time or even that much at all. Am I watching the same games or what? I think I'm going nuts here.
