Is it really Bruce's fault? I mean think about this. 90% of the time Bruce Smith is getting a double team. Is it really his fault? I don't think so. I think the person's you can fault is the rest of the Dline. He takes a double teamand the other 3 can't do nothing one on one with their man? I mean that is ridiculous to say that Bruce needs to sit. It's kinda like the LB's, you can't expect them to excel when they have to make up for the rest of the DL. What do you guys think? I mean should we really sit Bruce? He is commanding a double team, and if someone can replace Bruce why not put him on the other end and let him sack the QB? If there is someone better then Bruce on the DLine, let him play, let him take the Double Team, and let this other guy get into the QB. I really don't think Bruce is the problem.

He should get no more than 10-15 snaps a game to be affective. He's too old to take that beating, he's playing OK but we can maximize his contribution reducing his role IMO.

How does reducing his role make our D-Line better? The man is ageless. He's fighting as hard as he can and hitting the QB even though there are two guys on him. When you see the QB go down, 70% of the time Bruce hit him. I don't get why everyone thinks his role should be reduced. He's playing great, IMO

I still haven't seen anyone who knows his name. It's LaDaris.

Just my opinion: Bruce is a warrior, that is past his prime. We have refused to accept that fact, so has Bruce. I lobe Bruce for still playing and I know he ants to win. It's time to mentor, we'll put you in situational down.

I think our line is entirely composed of has-beens and never-weres.

You rule Jporterweb! The Bruce Bashers are garbage no-nothing idiots (that's as kindly as I can put it). The rest of the line is the prime of their carreers - so whose fault is it when there is not more pressure?? Oh it's the 40 year olds, right?? Not Renaldo Wynn's, not Haley? not Hosley?
L.Jackson? R.Upshaw? P.Zellner? Sorry but when you start them & nothing gets better, will others be blamed? No.
(btw: nice 4 point penalty on Upshaw, after the D stuffed Tampa at first & goal)

He had 0 tackles, 0 sacks, 0 ints against the bucs. He has 6 tackles the entire year. Rashad Bauman has more tackles. He cannot play every down b/c he is not affective at stopping the run. We want to see if Zellner or Upshaw can be both while Bruce comes in on passing situations. Sitting him like this will improve the D-line IMHO.

At this point I have to agree. He's still allowing himself to be taken out of plays with his wide rushing style. The tackle seemingly gets help from Bruce in driving him several yards behind the QB.

We can discuss this without calling people names.

How? How can we get both Ladaris and Peppi playing time f we are leaving Bruice int he whole game. Wynn is doing ok. I want to see Upshaw play alot, but Peppi needs to be on the field more. To me, it just seems like stuff happens when he is on the field. Bruce needs a reduction in time.

I have looked over a couple of game tapes and Bruce only applies pressure when our DB coverage is stiffling (although once he got pressue when so offsides, he almost broke the huddle with the offense). Coverage sacks are his only forte' now. I did not notice any double teams except on seal blocks where no matter who is at End, they are seal blocked (Using bodies and mass, especially the defender's, to wall off any access to the running lane). He has no bull rush, when he goes inside he is engulfed. The outside rush arc he takes (more like forced into) removes him from being an obstacle to the draw, flat pass, flanker screen and QB step up/run, heck even the basic run between G and T. I'm not bashing Bruce on the eroding of his skills, he might be the best we have and Lord knows he was one of the all-time greats-but most vets use smarts to put themselves in position, not take themselves out of plays. Bruce has also been a guy who paces himself and then turns on the explosiveness. I'm not seeing any explosions. I'm hoping he's pacing himself for the stretch run here.

Great analysis. You've obviously paid more attention to him then I have because I haven't noticed any inside moves on his part.

I saw three, on each the OT just fell on top of him as he tried a rip move.

Excellent analysis Cam. Seems like you know a little something, something.
