Well, I can't say that everyone looks smart these days, so maybe he's on to something. That bad part is it isn't all of them, but the ones that are making dumb plays are overshadowing the little bit of good that's going on right now.

I agree with you rskinsfan10. Stupid mistakes across the board. I think everyone is held accountable. We need a true leader on this team, I'm not sure Lavar is it. I think Ramsey should step up and start demanding better play from his offense. Defensively, Lavar can talk all day. That's all i have seen out of Lavar, talk. Time to step up. I love Lavar just as much as the next person, hope he's a Redskins for life, but it's time to stop talking and time to step up.

There were some screw-ups on defense against Tampa, but I think the defense has played well and smart before that. Virtually all the dumb penalties have come against the offense. The defense, until the Tampa game, was a model of consistency and execution prior to that and I expect that level of professionalism to return immediately.
The problem with the defense and the offense are exactly the opposite. The offense is talented, but unprofessional and sloppy. The defense is is--for the most part--very professional and careful. The issue on defense is talent on the defensive line. The Redskins have, I think, the worst pass-rushing defensive line I've ever seen. Not the worst Redskins pass-rushing defensive line I've ever seen, but the worst NFL pass-rushing defensive line I've ever seen. It puts enormous pressure on the back seven to compensate. I think they've done a great job [Tampa game aside]. I think Trotter looks almost back to form and Armstead is playing even better than last year. I preferred Arrington in the role he had last year, but he has also looked strong this season. Bailey is simply the best and Smoot is having his best season ever. The safeties are both upgrades from the performances we got last year.
The problem is the defensive line and I don't think that problem is going away this season. The Redskins can try to scheme around the problem all they want, but the fact is that our line cannot rush the passer at all and the entire NFL knows it. Once an ugly fact like that becomes general knowledge, you've got a problem. I know most of the members here want to believe there is some magic trick the coaches can pull to fix it all, but there really is not. We are stuck with this until there is a massive infusion of talent on the defensive line.
The league also knows we don't protect the quarterback, but that actually is more of a schematic issue. The defensive line, though, is a mess and everyone is aware of it. The problem won't go away until new players are brought in and that won't happen this year. Until then, coaches and players will just have to make the best of a difficult situation.

I think LaVar is doing his best to keep his comrades from giving up on the season.

You're right Spence. All the more reason for the LBs to stay in position and not stray from the scheme. We do have the worst blitzing defense in the NFL. I'm probably oversimplifying this but how difficult is it to "shoot the gaps". If you can't "shoot the gaps" on a stunt how about straight ahead? I just don't get it. Does Matt Bowen have a sack? I don't think he does. I would be willing to gamble, with disguise, and risk giving up the big play every so often.

I can't say that I've seen Bowen blitz. I can recall Iffy blitzing, but not Bowen.

I hear ya' REdsksinfan10. The "big" hits are nice but I'd rather have 8 tackles a game than one big hit. I appreciate what LA is trying to do, but do it by example. Time to start hitting RB in the backfield, show me some of that God given speed. Show me textbook football, I'll take that over big hits anyday.

He isn't delivering those Canidate like shots to the opposition either. At this point I'm not sure that he has been that much of an upgrade.

The problem with Terrell is that he is lost playing in space. He really demonstrated the difference between cornerback and safety. He just couldn't handle playing centerfield and so he never made any plays. Terrell has to play on a man [like a cornerback] or he is just lost. The complete absence of a pass rush makes it difficult for either of our safeties to make a lot of big plays.

Bowen's simply avoided scrwing up enough for me to think he's an upgrade over Terrell. He's made a couple big plays, too. No huge highlight reel hits yet, but I bet we'll see a few before the season's over. Hell, part of the reason we're not seeing those could be that the front seven are actually doing a pretty good job stopping the run.

Dan reeves simplified his playbook for Michael Vick and we all know what happened after that.

I agree with the Coach BUT I think he is referring to playing dumb and NOT dumb players.
As far as the defensive and offensive mistakes - MAN, we have seen our share this year - huh. I think everything in the above posts have pretty much covered it. The only thing I'll say about leaders though - Jessie Armstead should be taking the roll there. I know - Lavar is the man but Armstead knows what is takes to be a winner (Lavar is still learning in the NFL). Offense, it SHOULD be Patrick, but I think the kids head is still spinning. He will emerge though!
