New from the Post
Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A26283-2003Oct14.html)

Changes include:

1. Rush Lavar more

2. Get Jackson involved int he pass rush

3. Upshaw more playing time

4. Possible 3-4 defense

I like what I am hearing and witht he 3-4 that gets mor eplaying time for Kevin Mitchell, which is a good thing IMO.

Sounds like the same yeah, yeah whatever from Bruce and the staff. I'll believe it when I see him on the sidelines, gameday in Buffalo.

Only problem is, i do see them increasing Upshaw, getting Jackson more time, and blitzing Lavar, buy 3-4? I dont buy that. I think that is a ploy for Buffalo. We do not have the big anchor DT to play 3-4.

Anyone ever wander what difference Noble would have made?

I agree that the 3-4 comments are smokescreen for Buffalo. And if it does happen...I think it would only be used sparingly.

Those DTs are all cookie cutter and hope!

Dalton at NT, Bruce and Upshaw at DE, Arrington and Jackson at OLB. Dalton is no Ted Washington, but he's the best we have for the spot.

I like what I saw as well. Didn't like the news on Smoot though.

Yeah, Smoot better not be out for long. He's playing very, very well so far.

Rushing Lavar more???? Hmmm. Either they are finally taking my threatening e-mails more seriously or someone has realized that maybe Marvin Lewis wasn't such a dumb guy after all.

Here's wishing Smoot a miraculous 2-day recovery.

3-4 will not work for us - we have NO dominant force in the middle.

Bruce wouldn't be able to hold up as an end on the 3-4. And why Jackson at LB??? Would we just sit Armstead on the bench or move him to the middle??? It would have to be Armstead, Trotter, Mitchell and Arrington at the LBs.
Jackson can't even earn playing time at DE and you expect to start him at LB???

We're not going to have more than limited success trying to scheme our way out of this problem. As I noted in another thread, once the entire league knows you have a major flaw [like not being able to lay a finger on the quarterback even if your life depended on it], everyone is going to come after you like gangbusters.

if these changes result in better team play and W's then i am all for it. one thing i think really needs some fixin is the playcalling. more balance is what we need more ladell, trung and rock with make a happier and healthier ramsey.

You dont realy need a dominate force in the middle of the 3-4 you just need someone to occupy the blockers (as many as possible) so that the Linebackers can get to the QB. If he does get a push or gets around the would be blocker it is a plus but not necessarily necessary.
The best thing about the 3-4 is that the offense never knows which side the attack is coming from so the O_line is not sure about their assignments. remember this caused us a lot of problems.
