So...with the bye week stuck in there...we are really talking 2-3 games. I really hope he is better by the Cowboys game on the 2nd...

How good is Smoot anyway ... I always hear how we have one of the best secondaries, but he always seems to get beat in games. He's not a great tackler - always tries to take out the legs and players know that and just go around him.
I do think he's better the Baumen, so I wonder if we'll pick up a veteran DB (or put Terrell back there).

Smoot has been having a good season so far and the defense felt the importance of his absence in the 2nd half of the Tampa game

I think Smoot has been excellent this season. He was frequently lousy last year, but he's turned it around in 2003. I like him again. His absence will hurt, though I have more confidence in Rashad Bauman than most people do. I think he'll play well. Teams will test him and make some plays on him, but I think he'll make some plays for us, too. The guy was a great college cover man. His only weakness is his size. If he'd been two inches taller he'd have gone in the first round. Let's see if teams can exploit his lack of size.

Agreed. Smoot will eb a huge loss and we really get to see what Bauman is made of, how much he has progressed. Smoot has doen an excelletn job and we saw a drop off fromt he time he left game.

GDMFS - now the major injuries are going to start coming in waves - I CAN FEEL IT!!!!!!!!
Smoot might be availible for the cowboys but we can only hope for the best. I want him 95 - 100 % when he returns.

No... I dont think the injuries will come. We have an off week to heal things up... a perfect placement for the BYE. One more week and then everyone takes a rest before the second half.
No worries.

You have to factor in there's no pass rush. Smoot, Champ, and any other DB will look worse then they really are dealing w/ a QB who has all day to throw. Smoot will be missed big time in this game especially if Bledsoe has all day to throw.

I agree 100%. The second half of the Tampa game gave me a new perspective on Smoots abilities. The reason it seems he gets beet more often is nobody will throw towards Champ so Smoot sees a ton of passes. Some are bound to get by.

this is definitely not good news. smoot has been having a good season and now ade jimoh is gonna get more time! ugh! no pass rush + smoot out = shoot out in buffalo.

i think bauman can get the job done but we need a better third guy than ade.

From what I understand, Jimoh will be behind Terrell and Frantz on the CB list. I know Terrell will be OK that is his natural position, but I had no idea that Frantz could play CB as well as Safety. he actually has gotten playing time because he surprised the crap out of coaches. A long shot to make the etam, he now find himself in the game at times.

Yeah, Ade Jimoh has been demoted. Terrell, who is a better option and a natural nickel cornerback, is taking his place in the lineup. Jimoh better kick ass on special teams or he's going to be out on the street before long.

Agreed on the Terrell points. Definitely a better corner then safety.

I wonder what made them keep him. Ade Jimoh that is.

Yeah how could they dump molden, a starter last year in a GOOD defense over a rookie like Ade Jimoh?

Bauman in my mind isnt starter material just yet. With the loss of Smoot the D line bringing more pressure may not be enough. We have to play mistake free football.Bledsoe will no doubt attack Bauman and our LB's have to do a better job of staying home than they did against the Bucs.I just havent seen Bauman do as well as Smoot when given the opportunity. But i do thing he's a lot better than Jimoh.Glad to hear Terrell is taking over for him.

I'm not worried so much about Baumn getting abused as I am Terrell. Seeing him on the field still scares me.

Me either Joe. I think Bauman can handle himself. Terrell still worries me but he does seem to handle CB better than the safety position.

All goes back to - A strong D-line will compensate for a mediocre D backfield. If we could get pressure from up front, we will do just fine with any of the guys WE have.

Well we better hope we find a pass rush this week or it might be a long day.

Cause he must suck. We cut him, he was picked up by Detroit, and was cut there as well. He never lived up to his billing. Jimoh was raw, but showed signs opf promise in camp and pre-season, he made it difficult not to take a chance. Problem is, he has not converted that raw ability into game day talent.

I'm not worried at all about Buffalo. They simply are not that good right now. I think our corners will do a fine job on the Bills receivers. Bobby Shaw would be a number 5 receiver for the Skins, Josh Reed can't catch a cold, and Moulds is coming off a groin injury. Their O-line is just as suspect as ours. We should be able to pressure Bledsoe all day. I think we will finally play a complete game, and this will be our first definitive win.

As Mark pointed out, Molden couldn't even stick with Detroit. [Check out where they are listed in the prestigious hR Power Poll.] He's a stiff. My guess is they kept Jimoh because he's quick and can play special teams. That's usually what you demand of your 4th cornerback--special teams play.

I hope Bauman plays well enough make the coaches think twice about re-inserting Smoot into the starting line-up
