Apparently, the Nats are choosing the draft pick compensation (23rd overall plusa pick in the sandwich between the 1st and 2nd rounds) over a guy who hit 76 homers for them over the past two seasons.

I'm surprised by this a bit. It has to be a hit for team morale.

He's a better fit for the American league because he can DH. He was a major liability in the field and despite regular playing time he wasn't really improving from what I could tell. I went to a game that the Nats lost because Adam Dunn couldn't get to a routine ground ball. The game should have been over but instead it was a two run go-ahead triple. Obviously he more than makes up for it with his bat but his fielding mitigates his value to a significant degree. I just don't see how he's worth $14 million a year to this team.
Besides, MLB is very deep at 1B right now.

This is exactly right. Dunn is a great clubhouse guys and hits for power, but the Nats need to be building towards 2012 and beyond. Saving money at 1B will be a good thing long-term.
The Nats need to find a starting pitcher because until Stras coming back the rotation looks pathetic.

I wish they had traded him but a 1st and a sandwich pick aren't bad compensation for a team that is still a few years out.
I did get a chuckle over the Orioles offering $10/per deal. I wonder when they will be serious with an offer. They lowball everyone.

The fact of the matter is the Lerners are terribly cheap owners and will not bring anyone in to replace him or to even show the fanbase they really care about winning.
