Havent heard many folks talking about this kid as a possibility. McNabb is obviously all but out the door. Grossman aint the answer (even though he played admirably yesterday). We're going to get a QB in the draft...Shanny has already hinted at it (interview with J.Thompson and DOC).
I have not seen all of Locker's games, but I have caught bits and pieces over the last couple years. Last year he was a projected 2nd/3rd, but this year his stock will be down.
JMHO, I think we could take a flyer on this kid in the 3rd/4th/5th and come away with a great prospect at good value (only problem is we dont have either 3/4 rounds, so we'd have to be trading back a lot on draft day). This would allow us to focus on both OL/DL or possibly splurge on a skill position if theres someone there you just cant pass up. Unless we go after Andrew Luck, I dont think theres a QB out there worth a 1 or 2 with our current state of the franchise.
What do you guys think about Locker as a player/possibility? He seems very athletic (4.5 40), mobile in the pocket (actually reminds me of Cutler), has a good release, accurate, and can make all the throws. He seems suited for this offense ability wise. Can anyone give me the bad stuff? Is there bad stuff?

Pass. I've watched a lot of him and I don't know why anyone thinks much of him. Maybe in the 5th round as a flyer, but I wouldn't count on him.
As for the bad stuff, I don't know what he does well. His throws are bad, his decisions are worse, he struggles badly against talented/well coached defenses and I think he was effectively benched after he came back from injury. He has some mobility and some arm strength, but its very raw.
I know Kiper and McSh*tforbrains love him, but I don't know why. They were pimping him last season as a potential #1 pick over Bradford, but the NFL draft board told him that he was at best a 3rd rounder.

Id definitely take a shot at him in the 5th. IMO hes the same player as Christian Ponder, but Ponder looks like he's forcing the QB position. Hes more like a Linebacker/safety who got put at QB somewhere along the line. Bad decisions, inaccurate, very athletic though and had a ok Senior year.
IDK, I think Locker has potential and Id like to see him get the chance to compete. He wouldnt be a savior, but outside of Andrew Luck Im not sure anyone else could be either. God help us if we roll with Sexy Rexy as our #1 next year though...

OOOOO, I like that kid too. Just a little slow on the release sometimes, but hes a great prospect. What round would you say he goes? Hes DEFINITELY better than Ponder IMO

Funny how comparisons usually include the # as well (Rodgers/Stanzi). It happens a lot, but I can see the similarities. Rodgers release is way quicker though. Looks to me that Locker and Stanzi have a lot of similarities as well.
Theres no way someone lets Newton slip past Stanzi and Ponder. He is very similar to VY, but to me (eyeball test only) hes a bit more polished as a passer than VY even right now...

Eh...I disagree. Locker is really rough and needs to find something that he does well. Stanzi looked better playing tougher defenses.

I disagree with that. Newton, despite the hype now, needs to show that he can mentally break down an NFL defense or he'll go in the 2nd day.

Stanzi did play well against MSU. More of a game manager though wasnt he?

Thats his rep, but I don't see it. He's more of a hidden gunslinger imo.

Doesn't locker have a huge hole of talent around him?
If he could be had in the 5th round I would definitely pick him up.

With Luck being #1; wouldn't Mallet be the next QB to be taken? People will fall in love with Newton at the combines i'm sure, but I don't like him. He'll try to run in the NFL, and when someone on the DL catches him after a 1 yard gain, he'll quickly be introduced to the NFL.

Do not bother the Locker ...... project at best. AND yes at this moment Mallet would be the second QB on the board. BUT as we all know, the combines can change all of that and Newton can easily move up. All I say to that is buyer be ware.

That's a blatant trademark violation!!! And I can actually tell you why he loves him. Because he's a ri-tard. The man convinced Andre Woodson and his parents that he was a sure fire first rounder. If I'm as "successful" as as McShay when I get my law license, I better make sure to have maximum malpractice coverage.
In reality, though, pass on Locker even as Mr. Irrelevant. Go watch tape of his game against Nebraska. Better yet, save yourself some time and just look at his stat line. 4-20, 71 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs. Seriously??? 4-20 against a collegiate defense? Granted, Nebraska's defense was a top 10 defense this year, but they still have nothing on an NFL squad. And that wasn't his only stinker. He had 2 other games with ratings in the 50's range (Stanford and UCLA). Stay away from Locker.

Locker gets a "do over" against Nebraska. On one draft website I looked at they compared Locker to.............Donovan McNabb! I'm guessing the Shannys will take a pass.

Didnt Shanny say they might be looking for a young Donovan McNabb in the draft? I hope they have someone else in mind...

Call me crazy, but "top" draft talent at QB shouldn't be splitting time at QB with a freshman who clearly sucks donkey balls lol.

I'm not sure what to expect from the draft in regards to the QB spot. I think Rex and Beck will return and I hope our 1st or a later 1st(via trade down) can produce a QB like Schaub or Cutler. Hey a guy can dream...

I've never been sold on Locker and this game is proving it. He would need a bunch of talent around him to be successful. That might end up being the theme with all of these QB's in this draft. Oh, and I never believe there is a sure fire, can't miss QB.

Locker is a run 1st pass 2nd QB. Some team is going to have to have a LOT of patience with him.

I hope we PASS on Locker. After seeing him in two games against good defenses, PASSING is something he apparently has a problem doing.
6th round. Maybe.

Wow and he was projected to have been the #1 QB coming out of the draft last year, he should have left early, you can really see the weakness in his game.

I'd say no to Locker. The quarterbacks for Tennessee (Tyler Bray, FR) and UNC (T.J. Yates, SR) looked better last night than Locker did.

Locker looked more like a runner than a QB last night.. at one point he was 2/13 !!
his stock took a big hit, but i could easily see Shanahan taking a shot at him in the 5-6th round as a developmental project

but we need a real qb in the 2nd round imo.locker is more of a runner who can throw sometimes, gesh nesbitt(GT) is almost a better qb option

i fear that this type of player is catnip to Shanahan-- someone who has a lot of talent, shown flashes of great play, but who has disappointed overall

I think this fits more for FA QBs not Drafted QBs, Cutler coming out of college was praised for his strong arm, technique, and mind for the game. As well as making all his teamates at Vanderbilt play better because of him. The only thing Jake Locker has in common is a strong arm.

that is not true at all. Locker helped resurrect a totally down program. the entire offense was built around him and for most of his time there, he was the only elite level player.. his play has certainly fallen off his senior year and he has cost himself a ton of money.. he is still, a small town boy without a big head or big attitude. he is a willing learner and i still think he has the potential to be a succesfull pro
i think, at the worst, he will end up being a credible back up like the Huard brothers who preceeded him at U W

I doubt we will take Locker late. He is very much of a project and fighting to stay on the roster for any team. We have so much needs that we almost have to to make the most out of every pick.

I was watching a replay of the Insight Bowl last night and was thinking Blaine Gabbert reminds me of a Shanahan type QB. Strong arm, quick release, moves well in the pocket, makes every throw imaginable and not afraid to take chances.
Anyone think he is coming out?

I am not debating that at all, but as a redskins fan I am not looking for a credible back up. And we have different opinions of what an "elite level" player is.
Him being a small town boy has nothing to do with the fact that he is a run first QB that doesn't show a knack for making more than one read on a defense. I am not saying he is a bad guy I just think that comparing him to the last high draft pick Shanny took at QB is doing Jay Cutler a disservice.

Fwiw, its been reported by various sources (Chris Russell among them) that Shanny loves Locker.
In fact, Russell was told that Shanny more than likely would have taken him at#4 had he come out.
