Probably one of the more famous soldiers from WW2 due to the whole Band of Brothers book and mini-series but it was a story that deserved to be told.

R.I.P. to a true American hero.

Saddened to hear this. Read the book and saw the mini-series. A true warrior who cared about his men.

And the amazing thing about him is that he just tried to be a good man, and a good leader of man. The rest (good soldier / American) just came as a matter of course.

"Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?"
"No, but I served in a company of heroes".

R.I.P Major Winters.

right around the time band of brothers come on hbo, there was a big push to get major winters a medal of honor for his actions on
dday and in denmark.i don't know if it got lost in the whole 911 attacks or what, but i think the man deserved it not only because of what he did personally, but he saved 90% of the guys he trained in easy company.that says more to me than any act or thing he or anybody else did by themselves!
