View Full Version : Art Monk DESERVES the HOF! Lets DO SOMETHING!

A campaign of letter and email writing, targetted towards the elligible members of the media who vote for the HOF, might be useful in reminding them of Art's accomplishments during his very worthy career

To help that effort, Monkster (CPND Monk Supporter) took the names of all the elligible voters, and generated a contact list for all of them. I am providing that list at the end of this post, and we encourage all Redskins Fans to take a little time, create a letter expressing your feelings on the subject, and send it to each of the voters or as many as you can.

We don't want to send a form letter, so I ecourage each of you to express in you own words why you feel Art deserves nomination. But here are some things that you might want to mention:

. Art Monk retired the leading receiver all time in the NFL
--} Art is #5 on the all time reception list and #9 on the all time receiving yards list
--} Monk has better numbers in yds, receptions, and TDs than Joiner, who is in the HOF, yet did it in 2 fewer seasons
--} Monk caught a record breaking 106 catches in 1984, he had 13 receptions in a 1990 game vs. Detroit, and had a 230 yd receiving day against the Bengals in 1985
--} Monk played for many seasons in a run oriented offense, and had to share time with other great receivers such as Clark. Yet he was arguably the most clutch Redskins player from that era.
--} Monk's teams went to 4 Superbowls, winning 3. They were 16-5 in post season play. He was part of the 1983 club that set the NFL record for most points scored in a season.
--} Redskin's teams dominated the 80's, went to 4 SBs and won 3, played in the toughest division in the NFL, and provided some of the finest football of that era. Yet only 1 player and Gibbs represent that team.
--} Monk wasn't flashy, he didn't grab headlines, yet he was the epitome of the consumate professional who got the job done. Perhaps not a TD machine, although he could be that, but a reliable chain mover who at times was unstoppable.

You forgot that Art Monk's numbers are better then Stallworth's and Swann's put together. These voters aren't worth my time...

Welcome back, Ratboy!

This is a great idea. Monk truly deserves this...

Like where your heart is Rat_Boy. ArtMonk not making into the HOF is a gross injustice. But the problem is those who vote and are opposed to ArtMonk NOT being in there have very strong opinions. There does not appear to be any "on the fence" voters. It's a DAMN shame!!!!!

he should have been a first time ballot HOF

Rat Boy,

Thanks very much for posting this. I'll be sure to write some notes as well. I've made the same arguments in here many times, but never took this next necessary step. Here's hoping we can open some eyes to reality.
One other interesting factoid I had found was that even though Monk was branded a possession receiver, his career yards per catch were better than Cris Carter's and Marvin Harrison's (prior to this season, haven't checked recently). Those will be two guys that won't be hindered by the possession receiver label when its HOF voting time for them.

Good effort rat boy but Monk's play should do the talking.

After reading that list I understand why Monk isn't in the HOF. B/c it's predicated on what writers think. Geez what a crock.

Art Monk to me exemplifies a generation of Redskins football that is undoubtedly the most successful in franchise history. His numbers should get him in, but if not, his prescence on winning teams throughout the majority of his career (and his rings) should put him in.

Great idea man,

I just sent a note to Woody Paige (even though Around the Horn sucks, PTI is so much better). Hope it helps, I would really like to see Art elected.

Woody Page os great and around the horn is pretty good...

Thanks for the sticky and the welcome back.

And I realize that Monk's play and accomplishments should alone be enough to get him into the HOF EASY. Unfortunately, the morons on that list don't think so.

Excellent idea Ratty. Good to see ya around again. When do they vote? I have sometime off in a few weeks and this is the kind of project I could get into. Excellect work.

Most of those guys were anylists for ESPN... Art Monk will be screwed again.
