I think, personally, it was a strategic mistake to release it now. I would have waited until the primaries.

I totally agree. This thing could have been fomented a bit longer in order to achieve maximum egg on face lol. Oh well. It's pretty epic as it is.

Because it won't satisfy anyone who's making these arguments, and will only lead to more demands. Now you have Trump questioning whether "anyone knew him" at Harvard Law--when he graduated magna and was president of the Law Review. Should Obama have to produce his Harvard Law grades too? At some point asking someone to document ever part of his life becomes ridiculous.

*EDIT* Already there's speculation (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2011/04/obama-birth-certificate-birther-oprah-hawaii.html) that this is a calculated move by the administration, timed to keep the publicity around Trump from cresting and to make all the birthers look even crazier when they deny the new document's legitimacy.

I certainly no birther but asking for a birth certificate is a lot different than asking for college grades. It really doesn't appease the skeptics to release the certificate of live birth when they could have released this birth cert years ago. I can at least understand why the crazies won't be satisfied.

I dunno, Hawaii has some restrictive laws on birth certificates being released, and if you don't think Obama's eligible, file a lawsuit in federal court and ask for a subpoena. Ever since the state of hawaii confirmed that the form he released in 08 contains the same information as his physical certificate, that ended all the lawsuits(or ended them from going anywhere) and should have been enough.

And the crazies won't be satisfied no matter what was released and when. There could be video of Obama being born with Earl Warren notarizing the birth certificate and the birthers will reject it.

Oh come on, it isn't a stretch to say he should have released the long form a while ago. He's the President. I am pretty sure any law restrictions would have been overcome. They were now.

I agree that the timing is sort of weird. But I can't really have much sympathy for the skeptics, because the "short form" birth certificate released during the campaign was perfectly valid and the standard document used by Hawaii. As you say, they are crazies and will never believe Obama is legitimate, whatever facts or evidence to the contrary. If they give up on this (which I doubt), they will latch onto his educational history to prove he is a fraud, believe he was raised Muslim, or find some other politically disqualifying aspect of his life.

Because he had one of his lawyer file for it. I just think its ridiculous that he was expected to release it because he ran for and became the President. The state of hawaii said that he was born in Hawaii. That should have been good enough for everyone.
