A host on the Fox Business network—criticized last month for suggesting President Obama was "chugging 40's" during his trip to Europe—is facing allegations of racism after referring to the White House as the "Hizzouse," "Hizzy" and "The Big Crib," and guests of the administration as "hoods."
..........
"So what's with all the hoods in the Hizzy?" Bolling asked on his show on Friday.
............
Earlier in the show, Bolling teased the segment, referring to the White House as "The Hizzouse" and noting, "It's not the first time he's had a hood in The Big Crib."
............
It's also not the first time Bolling has referenced black stereotypes in his criticism of Obama. Last month, Bolling wrote on Facebook and Twitter that the president, then on a tour of Europe, was "chugging 40's in IRE while tornadoes ravage MO," repeating the line about malt liquor on-air.

IMO, this stuff is clearly racist. If there were instances of Barrack Obama using early 1990's style ebonics, then perhaps the immitation would be merely making fun of the guy. But as far as I know President Obama has never talked like that. The immitation is not a result of anything Obama has said, but rather a stereotype made purely because he is black. And that crosses the line.

I think it's okay when Michelle refers to herself as his baby momma but that a white person is a racist if he makes any sarcastic references to his race. This guy didn't get the memo telling him to never allude to the president's race unless it is in a glowing manor.

No, it wouldn't but I won't get in the way of the predictable high horse-ness that is sure to ensue.
Insensitive? Yes. Inadvisable? Of course. Racist? No.

Racial strereotypes are by definition racist sir. If Obama actually talked like that, then one could make the argument that it is simply poking fun. Would he have made the same sort of statements for a white guy? No, because he is playing on the stereotype of black people speaking a certain way.
From Merriam-Webster:
stereotype
an often oversimplified or biased mental picture held to characterize the typical individual of a group.
In this case the individual being characterized is the President and the typical individual being un-educated/incapable of speaking standard English with the group being African-Americans.
Considering it was this very stereotype that led to things like denial of voting rights etc in our nation's history, I'd be interested in hearing how it's not racist.

Your problem seems to lie with the black people who do talk like that or who glorify those things. That's why I mentioned Michelle's "baby momma" comment. If it is abhorrent for a white guy to make those jokes (as dumb as they might be), then you might want to have a sit down with the folks who make those things mainstream.

My question is, who really takes the time to carefully parse what Fox News does any more? I've lost the ability to pay attention long enough to get outraged. Viewers will find their programming either vile and reprehensible, or just fine, depending on their political views. I think liberals (and I include myself among them) should stop chiding the network for this stuff; it's pointless.

What makes stereotypes so damaging is that each one, contains enough truth for them to be accepted at face value. I don't recall ever hearing the First Lady refer to herself that way, and if she did, shame on her. As much as I love her, I think we as black people need to raise our standards and not accept "baby daddy/baby momma" as an acceptable standard.
As the radical rapper {rolls eyes} Common once said, "there's too many black woman who can say that they are mothers but can't say they are wives". But all of that is a separate issue from the thread.
The bottomline is that this use of stereotype is racist. There is no way around it.

Michelle didn't call herself that, Fox News called her that. I believe they ran a graphic with a caption that read: "Outraged liberals: Stop picking on Obama's baby mama." Which is inaccurate and is the equivalent of MSNBC saying "Outraged conservatives: Stop picking on Ann Romney for being an unwed teen mother."
*EDIT* Although like I said, liberals should just let this stuff slide off their backs. It's pointless to complain. I was just trying to correct the record.

I remember commenting on it here because while she thought she was being cute, she was also perpetuating a stereotype. My thing now is that her husband can't be off limits to be the object of dumb comments that are no different.

Agreed on both.

We'll have to disagree there. I think it's a bad joke.

Actually she called Barack her baby's daddy. I chose the wrong dumb moniker that she thought was cute.

I'm not sure, but I believe that she may have been using the proper English phrase "babies' daddy," not "baby daddy," which is slang. However, since I'm not an expert on African-American English I can't say for sure.

I disagree with this. If someone is wrong they should be called out on it. Being a conservative is not an excuse, nor is a license to say utterly inaccurate things all the time.
Giving up on the debate is what makes propagandist networks like FOX news successful. The court of public opinion is important. And while fringe people on both sides are impervious to the facts, elections and therefor policy is dictated by the middle. Moderates/Centrists generally can be persuaded.

woah...i remember hearing it and it was quite obvious she was trying to sound "hip" and as Keino pointed out it is quite stupid to do so.
That does not give Fox news several years later the license to sound racist and stupid and pander to the worse parts of their viewership.

Whoa, so one dumb comment that you might even be misquoting is all it takes, and now all sorts of linguistic stereotypes are fair game? That's a pretty low bar.

No, there are thousands of times when doing what this Fox guy did is considered acceptable. I just chose the President's wife since it was, I dunno, kinda close to him.

Yea, that's where we disagree. I think it's a bad joke and racist.
It would be no different than someone putting on a Jerry Stiller voice and playing up Jewish stereotypes. The ADL would be all over it and rightly so.

Well if that person was racist, he would be out of a job now wouldn't he? Hopefully he will apologize and learn from this. Or be suspended over these remarks as you have to watch what you say regardless. As we live in a politically incorrect world these days.
