Ok all, not that I want a QB change here at all but, I think what the fun n gun is missing in the NFL is a Mobile QB. And I don't mean a gannon or farve type who can scramble if needed. I'm Talking about a Vick/McNabb/Mcnair/Culpepper type. I know it sounds nuts but I'd bet the Fun n gun would be a juggernaut with that type of QB. Defenses would be afraid to blitz because the qb might take off. Think about....

This is my way of "fixing" the fun 'n gun:

Any offense is made more versatile with a mobile QB. The main problem they seem to have is whether or not they can make all the throws. McNair obviously can, McNabb's nearly at that level, Vick has shwon more than enough flashes, and Culpepper's up and down.

If Ramsey had started the season with better protection we might have seen a developing mobile QB. I know his rep is not being mobile - just look at the sacks, hits, hurries and knockdowns! But, had the O line done a better job, I think Patrick would have stepped up his mobility.
~sigh ~ woulda, shoulda, coulda.........

Maybe he could have been a bit more mobile a la Jay Fiedler. Certainly not a Steve Young type, or even a Brett Favre type.

the way to fix Spurrier's version of the fun and gun ... is to game plan versus the opponent's weakness and have fun gunning it there ... and if they aren't weak ... sucker them into something ... but he just plays it as if the system will overcome anyone ... all pro or 3 string back field ...

Let me throw this question out before we think of a "Fix".
What if half the dropped passes had been caught - would we'd need a fix?

and, just to add another question...
would if ramsey had gotten rid of the ball quicker? the line may be playing better, but you have to credit hassleback for making quicker decisions. not saying he's the better qb, just an observation.

Almost any offense would look good if McNair or McNabb or Vick or Culpepper is running it.

It seems everybody's observations are correct. The "Mobile" QB's I named are pro-bowl caliber and McNair is making a case for MVP this year. I guess Any offense would benefit from guys like these. Sorry, bad question on my part.

I still believe the easiest way to fix it is put it back in the NCAA

I don't think a mobile QB will fix it. I think you can fix it by creating hot reads for Ramsey and I think shortening the routes will help as well. This offense requires too much time for receivers to complete their routes. You could get that much time in college but not in the NFL. You can also fix it with a good running game but our coach believes a good running game is one where a RB runs for 6 or more yards on every run play. You can also fix it by calling the proper plays. Why throw a fade route on a 3rd or 4th and 2. The Fun and Gun will suffer the same fate as the other pass-oriented offenses like the Run and Shoot.

Well, the West Coast offense is pass-oriented....

I think we can fix it w/ a #2 WR that can take advantage being opposite Coles. Gardener is in a slump.

Sorry we can't fix the chuck'n'duck! It does not work in the NFL.
I don't care whos the QB.
P.S. Ramsey is the man.

I think a mobile QB helps any offense. I wanted us to draft a QB like Vick but there was no one with his level of talent. Ramsey is still lerning, he'll get quicker with his reads and throws. We'll be just fine.

Dumps and dinks which simulate a running game if it's executed properly.

Give Mr. Fun and Gun a gun, that would fix it.

Simulate, h2s, but it's still a passing system.

agreed but I'm thinking more of the vertical passing offenses.

The west coast offense could be the most boring thing to watch.

The problem with Mobile QB's is they get hurt alot.. Vick has shown that... McNair now... That is one advantage in Farve.
Unfortunately... Ramsey hasnt had the same luck due to our Oline.
