Please forgive me guys, but I was getting soooo depressed with how we all feel about our team. If you look at our posts as of late, you would have thought that a loved one died (no, not Hasselbeck;) ).

Anyway, I needed to break the monotony a bit. Hope you don't mind. I wanted to start a POSSITIVE thread about our (still) beloved team.

I ask the question: What is the Greatest thing about being a Redskins fan???

I'll start it off.

the fact that we play in the Nation's Capitol and represent the most powerful city in the world.

Hail to the Redskins!!!! :) ;)

The best thing about being a Redskin fan is we are not Cowboy fans.

The greatest thing about being a Redskin's fan is getting to sing a great fight song.

Yeah, right now that fight song is about all there is. Good memories of the Joe Gibbs era. I tell you, I really feel bad for the fans who cannot remember the Joe Gibbs era. They've known nothing but mediocrity. Sort of like being a Cincinnati Reds fan who is not old enough to remember The Big Red Machine of the 1970s. Oh, wait. That's me!

Come on Tom, they served as a fantastic farm team last year.

Amen to that, brother.

Like what Spence said, I feel bad for the younger fans who didn't get to see the greatest era of the Redskins.

The Joe Gibbs era.

I am proud to be a Redskins fan. All the championships we have won, and how the Skins can bring the DC community together, when they win.

If I ever move away from the DC area, no matter how far, I will AWAYS be a Redskins fan.

Best part of being a Redskins Fan ... don't know if there is a best part. I was born and raised in the Washington Metro area and this is the team I grew up with. It's whom my family and my friends (most) rooted for. It was the team the community always talked about. …….. During the time I was in the service (in SE Asia Pacific area) it was ALWAYS cool to get news about the Redskins because it was news about “back home”. So for me the Redskins will always represent one of those good things about Home.

For me, it'll always be the 35 point second quarter in Superbowl XXII.

The look on John Elway's face on the sideline was priceless...

Those games in December in RFK; the snow swirling lightly. The frosted breath of the Hogs as they lined up, the gleam in their eyes as they knew what play was coming. The Diesel, chuffing behind the line, waiting for the snap and the handoff. The crack of shoulder pad on shoulder pad as the Hogs ran the "counter tre" and defensive players smacked the frozen turf. And a hole opened and the Diesel crashed through it and made chunks of turf fly as he gained those extra yards!

That's a memory of what being a Redskins Fan is all about.
And the best thing is, that's what sustains me now as we seek a way back to the glory days.
Hail to the Redskins!:D

The greatest thing about being a Redskins fan is being part of a community of fans like we have here. Ever visited some other team sites??? They are a joke!

Face it Cowpuke fans... Redskin Nation is all class!

Damn straight! I would be in a mental asylum right now if there was no hR. A little more morphine would make this much more enjoyable, though. They don't give me enough morphine.

Riding the Metro with a million other Redskins fans on our way to the 1987/88 Super Bowl parade. The lights went out on the train and everyone started singing the fight song. It was Great! Then getting there and stumbling on the best place ever to stand...right before the viewing stand (which we didn't know at the time) seeing Gibbs hoist the trophy and saying it was all for the fans!!

Geez!!! Can anyone please get us back to the good old days?

Oh the good ol' days!

The greatest thing about being a Redskins Fan, is that we have tradition, comraderie, pride, and, class. I've visited other cities and stadiums and I'm telling you, nothing compares to being, 1.) a Washingtonian and, 2.) a Redskins fan. None of us are frontrunners or fair-weather. We embrace our team regardless of record. We embrace DC as the greatest and most powerful city, in the world. When I see a fellow Redskins fan, here in Vegas, we instantly bond. That's what makes being a Skins fan great.

I clicked on the thread hoping you would tell me what's so great about it....and make me feel better. If I didn't live through the 80's I wouldn't believe that this team had EVER been good.

Probably the best part about being a diehard Skins fan is that I get to share that experience with my Mom who has raised me to follow the 'Sons of Washington'. Our love of the team creates another bond outside of the more general family ties. Other than this, I have nothing good to say about this team right now. That Dallas game pushed me off a bridge.... oops no further negativity.

for me the best thing about being a Skins fan is knowing that as a kid in the 70's and 80's this was a proud franchise with character people from top to bottom (Gibbs was a class act and a true example of what a man of God displays on and off the field) also for me the best thing about being a Skins fan is knowing that with the good also comes the bad as well, and at this present time the bad times seem to be winning, but I am sure that in the near future things will turn around for this franchise and us the fans and we will see our Skins back on top again and that for me will be the best thing about being a Skins fan till the day I die.

Go Skins.......

Totally understandable Keino, it's a wonder we have any young fans at all. If we don't start winning some games here soon, we could all be the last generation of fans...

You know what AGG? Not to be negative here, but I feel you understand my pain so Im going to vent a little bit:
What makes me sick about the last 12 years is that each and every Off-season, The front office makes moves that get everyone so excited, and every year the team goes out and lays a big ole Egg. The team always seems to have little to no direction. I told myself this year that I wouldn't do it to myself again. I wouldn't get my hopes up of a return to what I became so accustomed to in my most impressionable years...WINNING. But lo and behold, We go 3-1, and show an incredible amount of grit and heart in those 3 wins, that I believed the hype YET AGAIN!!! This season has hurt me to my very core and I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I have no doubts that Snyder wants to turn this franchise into a winner. Im almost in favor of getting rid of our "Core"players and totally rebuilding. New staff, new players and while we are at it....tear down that dreadful Fed-ex field and go back to RFK.

ok...Im done with my venting.

The best thing about the Redskins . . . . "THE OFFSEASON". The Skins always give us plenty to talk about in the offseason.

I don't have a problem with FedEx Field. I think the stadium is fine. I don't agree with criticism that it lacks atmosphere. Things like atmosphere or aura come from winning playoff games. When the Redskins start doing that at FedEx [one playoff win was against Gus Frerotte and the Lions in January 2000] the stadium will have the necessary aura and atmosphere.

My big complaint about the stadium is its location. I loved having a stadium in Washington, D.C. That was special. My apologies to anyone who lives in the Landover area, but it just isn't the same and never will be. I hope one day I live to see my beloved Redskins return to the city of my birth.

I think the stadium sucks, and I live 5 minutes away. It's great for the local economy, but there is one way in and out, there was ridiculously poor planning for the parking situation and we do not have any advantage in that stadium unlike RFK that would literally Shake becuase of the lower level seats.

Getting a football autographed by joe gibbs from my great aunt when I was about 12(1986) for christmas after having followed them since first grade.Remembering the 80's SB teams and how much fun I had going out in the yard as a kid with my friends playing ball and emulating my favorite skins.I love this team and It always will be a part of my life.
