I believe that you use the RUN to set up the Pass.
I believe that Defense wins Championships (not offense)
I believe that a good coached team will usually find ways to win, if he has adequate talent.
What is your football philosophy??

Build a team from the Lines out, in this order:
1. Offensive line (big and bruising)
2. Defensive line (big and bruising)
3. Linebackers (big and bruising)
4. Running back (big and bruising)
5. DB's (speed and more speed)
6. QB (smart and strong arm)
7. WR (speed and hands)
Without the O-line none of the rest matters. It is the foundation upon which EVERYTHING else is built.

Do this and you'll find out who is in it for the game, and who is in it for the money.
Great idea Kevin!

Hell yes, the twins. :D
I've definitely been converted to believing that the lines come first and foremost after this season, as long as we're limiting this to the people on the field. If not, then it's the coach and coordinators. They're crucial. Hell, that can even be proven in Madden. I went from relying on a few personally designed plays in my own playbook to actually mastering a real playbook from the game a couple months ago, and won eight times in a row against a guy who had consistantly beat me since we bought Madden 2004. It's all about finding schemes to exploit your opponent's weaknesses and adapting to what they do. Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Marvin Lewis, Jeff Fisher, they do that very well. Steve Spurrier, on the other hand.....
I don't think running to set up the pass is as vital as it used to be. You still need a running threat, but teams are able to air it out more now, especially in a West Coast-style offense. I don't believe in the need for a true shutdown corner as long as you've got a strong defensive line. I think that the defense needs to be able to disguise their blitzes and use them effectively. I believe that the Cover 2 is very overrated.
Hmmm.... probably enough random thoughts for the day. I like reading what other people think, though. Good to see different opinions.

Pay for performance!
Building a team starting with the lines.
A dominate defense.
A owner who knows football but is not a fan.
A quarterback with a cannon of a arm.
A running back who gains yards;
A TE who can't be stop;
A WR who runs and catches;
A LB who creates havoic;
A Kicker who hits ever 50+ yarder;
A team that doesn't get carried away with celibrating first downs, TDs, or receptions more than 3 yards.
A staduim full of fans that rock the world
$2.00 beers
Damn, sorry I got carried away or I must have been reliving the 70's again!

Definately starts with building the lines and then I build a solid defense. I want a QB who can manage the game, a receiver or 2 with good speed and hands and a big guy for the slot. I TE that blocks well and catches the ball. A durable running back and great blocking FB.
I would use the run to setup the pass as well. I would pass on 1st downs on ocassion too.
Like Joe said, the coaches have to do their work also. Put your players in a position to succeed. Don't force your system on them if they are not the correct players. Adapt to their strengths and weaknesses. Take advantage of their strengths and do your best to hide their weaknesses.

Priority goes to the line and a solid offene can be built around a solid grind it out running back who has a high median yards per carry (like Stephen whereas backs like Shaun Alexander or Dillon run for 1-3 yards most times and break a big one that boosts the average). Defense is more important than offense. Players need to know they're role and stick to it. I believe in running the ball and play action. The best way to beat a defense is mix it up. You have to force the defense to make several choices to keep it on its toes. Know your tendencies and weaknesses as a coach and coach to counteract those.

#1. the HOGS...a powerful and bruising Offensive Line
#2. a power running back...like Riggins
#3. a quarterback with poise and leadership skills like Elway or Favre.
#4. A defense that can stop the Run
#5. Speed at the corners
and let me say it again.....a hands off owner who turns everything over to a competent GM.

I think you drank one too many breakfast beers, GD
I want a bunch of fat mean guys on my offensive line who get the job done. D-line is my next priority. I want a running back who can really cut, cant take a hit, and can make some catches. I want fast, strong LBs who are sure tacklers. I want CB's who can come up and play the run .. gimme Antoine Winfield and Derrick Strait types and I'm happy. Those are my top priorities, of course i have preferences for remaining positions .. but that's how i would start to build my ideal team ..

I would add to that the importance of running a tight, disciplined ship. For example, I would fine any player who celebrated excessively for simply doing his JOB. I can't stand seeing players showboat after making a simple catch (a la Michael Irvin), or a tackle, or whatever. It's your JOB. It's what you get PAID to do. Quit celebrating and get back to work. (Exception: Touchdowns. Go ahead and celebrate touchdowns.)
And whoever gets a penalty during a punt or kickoff return will ALSO get fined!
Oh, and $2.00 beers.

Points come from the passing game.
You run the ball to win.
Defense wins championships.

My Footaball Philosophy:
1-Strong Defense (defense HELPS to win championships-ya still need some form of offense)
2-Solid offense {good RB who can crack the D-Line and move quickly-PLUS a strong armed QB with good field smaarts}.
3-NO BS-......Run a tight ship and crack the whip when needed....
4-Solid O-Line to keep our QB nice, safe, and HEALTHY........(HINT HINT)
5-The RUN helps to setup the pass-always has-ALWAYS will......
