Arrington, Bailey and Samuels shouldn't be in the Pro-Bowl ... but their press agents sure as hell should be.

I really don't think that Arrington is effective or even impressive in the current scheme the Skins use ... and I'm not going to just passively agree that Arrington is effect in any scheme until I actually see him dominate the way they say he does. Yes he lays out a serious impressive hit ... but only when he hits someone ... he is consistently in the wrong place, taking the wrong angle, making impressive tackles too far down field ... etc. etc. etc.

Bailey ... torched ... *again ... add Booker/Grossman to the list of passing batteries that absolutely own him ... a list that includes such luminaries as Wright/Horn. I'm not saying he's not good ... but he's not a shut-down CB.

Samuels lets far too many DE's take Ramsey's body and beat the crap out of it this season for me to beleive that anyone would vote for him for the Pro-Bowl ... frankly I am amazed!! Considering how well Winey filled in for him maybe Winey should be going to Hawaii too because I didn't notice a let-down at all ... in fact I think things were better ...

As for the former Pro-Bowlers ... Trotter is either ineffective or is being used ineffectively .. beats the hell out of me which it is ... but I'm positive its one or the other because he is essentially ineffective far too much of the time (did have a good game against the Saints ... but past that ... not too much to crow about). Smith ... please if you're going to go "all or nothing" as a pass rusher you have to rack up at least something close to 1 sack and 3-4 knockdowns a game ... he is more times "nothing"

I know it takes time to match personnel and schemes ... so I'm hopeful that either the schemes will find ways to make better use of these players ... or that the team will find players that fit the scheme better.

BrokenSticker....you are absolutely correct. I have brought these things our before so let me warn you now. Yu will hear some comebacks like "Name me a cornerback who doesn't give up a TD"

"Name me a tackle who doesn't give up a sack."

"Lavar has so much potential. He is a gifted athlete. We HAVE to have him".

These are the redundant phrases used over and over as we have trampled the league on the way to our dominating performances and league leading 5 victories.

Its time people wake up and face reality. Ray Lewis is a pro bowler. He simply wills his team to win. If you miss a tackle and Ray Lewis brings your man down while you are standing there...you better leave the area immediately.

Lavar is not a leader. He is a talker. He is out of position. He is a hotdog. Marvin Lewis clamped down on him and forced him to stay put and yes he had 11 sacks and made the pro bowl. But he has detiorated since then He is NOT a leader and in fact he NEEDS a leader.

Bailey is simply very good and I would like to keep him, as I keep posting. However, Bailey is not the best corner in the league, he is just one of the best. And besides, even if he was the best, a corner doesn't get you more than 5 wins. A defensive line is going to make a conrer better.

Put the big bucks into leaders......coaches....and def. linemen.

LMAO my Sticker is fine ... but my knees are trashed ... :lol3:

I hear you about the come-backs from people ... maybe we should try responding with:

"name me an pro-bowl left tackle who's starting QB has as many injuries and missed games as Samuels"

The Arrington one is tougher because its not as well documented how many times he took the wrong angle but because hes such a fine athelete he caught the guy (5 yards down field). Maybe the comeback to this one is to ask how many defenses ranked 25th or lower have legitimate pro-bowl linebackers?

The first two "redundant phrases" are offered, not to say that Champ or Samuels are the best, or even deserving of Pro Bowl honors. They are there to say that even though they have given up sacks, TDs, whatever, that does not put them in territory wholly unfamiliar with those others who play their position.

Bailey is one of the best corners in the NFL. In any case where contracts come up with a player who is "one of the best," that player wants to be paid like the best. Do not think for a second that even in this glut of CBs in FA that salaries will not be high. The team who makes the first CB signing will most likely be the cheapest. Each signing thereafter will use the prior one as a benchmark on what will be paid out in the future. I don't believe we will be saving nearly as much money as some might believe for the drop off in talent that we most likely would see.

The first two assertions of the third "redudant phrase" are true. Lavar does have tremendous potential and he is a very gifted athlete. the part that you take exception with is the assertion on the necessity of retaining him on this team. Ray Lewis is the best linebacker in the league. No one comes close. Urlacher is a distant second. Comparing any linebacker to Ray right now is comparing apples to a pot of gold. no contest. We have leaders. We have people on the sideline pleading with Spurrier to run the ball and do different things to help this team. Where does our emotion on defense come? None other than #56. He brings the intensity. He also brings undisciplined football which we are trying to correct. You don't get rid of a fast horse just because it's hard to ride. You work with it until it settles down without losing its passion. More importantly than any of this comes the money involved. Keeping Lavar at his current contract means limiting the ability of our FO to make improvments on the DL and other positions. The only other option (besides negotiating an extension) is to cut him as he is not a FA this year. That means that not only do we take a big cap hit, but we also get nothing in return.

We put big bucks into leaders (Jansen, Coles, Arrington, Champ in past years). We put big bucks into coaches (5 years, $25 million dollars), but you don't pay big bucks to get the best assistants. Money is too much of a distraction for coaches. The only thing we haven't done according to your prescribed solution is to put big bucks into defensive lineman, which we would be able to do after we get an extension with Lavar.
