View Full Version : Draft Priority

I have a feeling that may of us are suffering from the same irrational "boy in a toy store" problem that the Redskins FO has too frequently suffered from. Too many "lets draft this running back", "that cornerback" suggestions being bantered around.
Lets face it even a relatively decent scouting staff is probably only going to find 2 plus or minus 1 potential starter in the draft. Given that as an assumption ... what position do you want to find a starter for out of the draft. Remember ... you can't have everything you want ...

I'm going with D End ... but may reconsider for D Tackle based on the Skins draft position (which is looking better and better)

Bruce Smith/Reagan Upshaw's replacement is mandatory. There isn't even a close 2nd. Bruce is toast. Upshaw is invisible.
Basically we are playing with 10 defensive players when either of them are on the field. Anybody disagree with that?

I say DT but it would really depend on who was availible when our pick comes up. I'd take the best defensive lineman regardless of position. ........... 6'9", 400 lbs, 4.3 / 40, benches a VW 50 times ..... YEP, that's the guy!

Defensive end and then defensive tackle. Then defensive end again.

DT. The DE draft is too shallow...WAY too shallow.

Of course, this all depends on if our new GM, Spence, gets the green light from "MR. SNYDER." Depending on who we overpay for during the free-agency period, I think we should take the best Defensive Line man available, probably with all 7 picks. Memo, to Spurrier, no Gators! Unless it's Ben Troupe.

I could see DT or DE. On the one hand, we do have a possible starting-caliber DT in Russell, who has at least begun to show some flashes again. A full off-season plus training camp could make him back into somewhat of a force. On the other hand, with our draft position, we'd be reaching to get a DE. If we really want that, I'd say keep trading down in the first round for extra picks until we come upon a good spot for a DE we like. Then in the second round, that Udeze guy from USC mentioned in the Draft forum has looked impressive in the brief glimpses I've seen of him.

Can we draft a GM?

why wouldn't we take Will Smith with the 10th or 11th pick? (Not the movie star)
Some draft boards have himin the top 10 and Mel Kiper has him ranked there also. But regardless, whether we take a defensive end at 10 or if we drop down to 17th before taking one.....we need one.
There HAS to be SOMEBODY in the 15,000 college players out there who could be a pure pass rusher, which is what we need most. Remember, Strahan was a 2nd round pick. You just have to look deep enough for the talent.

DE woudl be great. Actually, we weak as our DLine is, DE or DT is a no lose situation. My assumption is, if there is a big time pass rusher at our slot, that is what you must do. We have missed pass rushing for years. Time to get some back.
