after the season before anything is reported. According to the Washington Post, Spurrier has cancelled his Monday radio show and he's going on a two week vacation in Florida hours after the game.

Only a few players trickled out of Redskins Park yesterday after showing up for treatment when Coach Steve Spurrier gave his team the day off. Spurrier has canceled his weekly radio show next Monday, and intends to depart for a two-week trip to Florida less than 24 hours after Saturday's night's finale against the Philadelphia Eagles.

I don't know what it means, but it sure is suspicious. I'm hoping he goes to Florida and stays there.

Perhaps the "experiment" is over... at least here with the Redskins. Spurrier can take his act somewhere else and see how it plays. And since I'm dream wishing, perhaps Daniel Snyder will engage in talks with undisclosed business interests concerning the sale of the franchise. Maybe we get rid of all the problems at once...... just dreaming....
Pathetic ~ sigh ~ :(

He actually gave the team Monday off. There was no reviewing of game tapes and such.

I agree. Very unprofessional. What message does this send to your team. Not a good one if you ask me.

I hope Spurrier loves the golf while he's down there. It probably means more to him than our team. Don't come back here. You've just shown yourself to be a loser. Not just a winner who has lost a few.

A real coach says this:
"Knowing this is going to be the end, there are a lot of things I want to get in place," said Fassel, whose team dropped to 4-11 in Sunday's 19-3 loss in Dallas, the Giants' seventh consecutive defeat. "Not only the game, but the closing down of the season and my era here."
I'll be here for the meeting on Monday, cross the Ts, dot the Is, make sure everything is organized for the exit physicals and everyone follows through with what they're supposed to do and be here, and then I'll get out of here."
Our coach says "Aw shucks, I'm going on vacation"

Exactly, Mike. I'm certainly no big fan of Jim Fassel, but at least he knows what it is to be an NFL coach and he at least tries to do his job properly in exchange for the big salary he receives.

I understand that.... and you understand that... but from Dannys track record, we see an owner who seems to jump at every new fad in the NFL world... so hearing a positive thing about a bad coach sends shivers up my spine.

One of the radio analyst has a theory the Snyder knows who he wants his next head coach to be but he's trying to improve his image by supporting Spurrier. Basically showing that he has patience and can not mettle.

I'm hoping that SS goes on his vacation, relaxes, plays some golf and does some serious soul searching. I can't believe that a pro HC doesn't have the simplest of answers when asked easy questions. I'd likek to have him back but he needs a serious attitude adjustment and needs to change his philosophy in general. I know that in and of itself is a longshot at best. If he decides not to come back then it's "Aw shucks, thanks Steve, for the 2 losing seasons and don't let the door hit you on the way out. Aw shucks". I don't want a coach that doesnt want to be here or doesn't have a burning obssesive compulsive disorder about winning.

We can send the hR hit squad to assist with his attitude adjustment.

Better send them by Fed-Ex we have to support our HR boys and our stadium sponser! Besides Spurrier would not expect the squad to come jumping out of a Fed-ex crate.

I'm sorry..............but if any of you believe this crap about Spurrier going on vacation you truly are homers.
When coaches have losing seasons....2 consecutive losing seasons in a row......here's what happens, with no exceptions:
The coach is either fired, and the search begins for a new coach.
OR.............
The coach meets with the owner, discusses what went wrong with the season. Meets with the assistant coaches and discusses what went wrong. Somebody is let go or plans are made to review the game plan and get new additions.....the coach puts it extra hours and vows to everybody this won't happen again....etc. etc. etc.
I have never in my life heard of a coach in his first 2 years...posting 2 straight losing seasons.....the 2nd WORST than the first....and then cancelling everything after the last game and then slipping out of town to an unkown destination...leaving the problems and mess for others people to worry about while he is comfortably relaxing in the sun without a care in the world.
You've got to be friggin kidding me if you believe this crap!

Well Real Rick, Mart Schittenheimer was just given a Thumbs up after losing 19 of his last 24 games, so it does happen. It could go either way with Spurrier in my opinion. He could REALLY be taking the 2 weeks to do some soul searching, or he could be using the 2 weeks to regain his focus. We will just have to be patient. I, for one believe that Snyder is sincere about wanting to keep him on even though it is clear that the OBC is no Pro Coach.

I don't think Marty was making vacation choices , I bet he's trying to work a game plan to go out with a win, a positive note to start off next season, you can talk about soul searching after the season, SS mind should be on how to beat Philly(even if he doesn't have a clue) not Florida.

kempcolts.....thats exactly my point. A coach with a losing record does NOT plan a vacation 15 weeks into a season after cancelling a Monday practice after another embarassing defeat.
However, like I said, there are homers.....and as evidenced by some of these posts....some people continue to believe that Spurrier will be the coach and he's just going to relax in the sun for a couple of weeks while Snyder and the rest stay in D.C. trying to mull through the debris.
If that were the case, I think maybe Snyder might want to look at this as a clue that he has the wrong coach.
Can ANYBODY in their right mind conceive of George Allen taking a 2 week vacation after a losing season? First of all, George Allen never had a losing season and is the only NFL coach to have a record like that. In fact, even after winning seasons George Allen was hard at work the next day reviewing tapes, studying how to get better, etc.
I realize some coaches do take a vacation but usually its NOT the day after the season ends. I mean its just incomprehensible that a coach with a losing season would dress after the game, go home and pack, and leave town for 2 weeks in the sun. And no, you can bet Marty is not leaving town after that last game. You can bet he will tend to business and organize and plan and then maybe take some time off. But the next day?????
God thats weird....not to mention unprofessional and lazy sounding.

"I don't know what to say, I guess we'll just have to hope the offseason will give us better tools to pitch and catch with, and next year we'll have to coach 'em up to try and do better. We might do something with one of those defensive something or others too, I'm not so sure about that. Shucks, you'll have to ask George, he might know a thing or two. Anyways, I'm late for my tee time, can't miss that, so, gosh, guess I'll have to be going a mite early today."
