I was listening to the Tony K show today and they were talking about how back in the 70's the owners of the NY Giants, two Mara family members(cousins I think) were constantly arguing about the direction of the team, which led them to make bad personnel decisions. The team did horrible for a few years so the NFL named George Young the Giants GM.
Apparently, the league was getting ready to do the same thing with the owners of the Bengals until they hired Marvin Lewis to be there Head Coach last offseason.
Does anyone no more about this? And if so what would it take for the league to do something like that here?

I didn't hear that, but it seems farfetched to me. Certainly the NFL takes its New York franchises very seriously [as does every professional sports league], but I don't see how they could force the Mara family to hire Young. Perhaps he was suggested since Young was a friend of Pete Rozelle, among others.
I have never heard of the NFL forcing Cincy to hire Marvin Lewis. I know Lewis was not Mike Brown's first choice, but his first choice turned him down so he hired Lewis instead. [Proving yet again that it is better to be lucky than smart.]
I can't see the league forcing Snyder to hire anyone he does not want to hire. I don't see how they could possibly do such a thing.

Spence, the league didn't force Cincy to hire Marvin Lewis, what Semi said was the league was beginning to consider forcing Cincy to hire a GM until they decided to hire Marvin Lewis.

I don't see how the league could do that either. I've never heard of such a thing. If the league cannot stop Al Davis from suing the other 31 owners twice a month I don't see how it could force Mike Brown to hire a general manager.

Spence, out of curiosity, who was the Bengals first choice? but yes, many times it is better to be lucky than good.
