The Oakland Tribune reported today that Allen was leaving the Raiders. Raiders player personnel director Mike Lombardi might be interviewed for the same post in Tampa Bay.

The Washington Redskins also could meet with Allen this week to discuss their GM job.

The son of Pro Football Hall of Fame coach George Allen interviewed with Redskins owners Daniel Snyder two years ago and might welcome joining the organization that has become synonymous with his father.

Allen, who was named the NFL executive of the year in 2002 by the Sporting News...

Yeah, but, there has already been not just a denial, but Karl Swanson has said that the SF Chronicle report is wrong and The redskisn have no interest in hiring Allen.

We will not be hiring a GM. Snyder wants to run the show, still believes he can, and that is that.

PSF, I'm praying that you're wrong!:D

Maybe Snyder will slip and bump his head and suddenly fire Vinny, and hire a Real GM like Allen!

maybe not.

Hiring someone like Allen is more important than hiring a coach right now and would be the single best thing Daniel Snyder could do for his favorite toy. I fear, however, that Snyder has not suffered enough. He has not lost enough. Has not endured enough abuse and indignity. He still thinks he can do this himself. He's wrong, of course, but I don't think he's learned his lesson yet. It's a brutal lesson to learn and the longer it takes the nastier it becomes. Sooner or later Snyder will have to turn over personnel matters to a professional. The only questions are how long it will take, how many losing seasons we must have, and how much abuse Daniel Snyder has to endure before coming to that most logical conclusion.

I thought I read it was unlikely he would come here and that Tampa Bay was after him.

TexSkin,
You are correct.... Tampa Bay has been interested in him, since he played nicely with Jon Gruden ! :) However, there is the chance that Danny Boy may see the light and bring in Bruce Allen to become part of the FO team.
I can only hope!!!!!

I know he's an upgrade over Vinny but what exactly has he done to gain all the praise he receives? Sure, dad would've been proud at his over the hill gang in the Super Bowl but they were pretty much a fluke. I don't see any great drafts coming from Oakland.

I dont follow the Raiders organization much but I am pretty sure these 3 guys were drafted by the Raiders recently and they are definetely proven players. Not to mention they got 3 first round draft picks for a freakin coach.

Charles Woodson CB

I think Danny will end up selling the team before he gives up control. It isnt in his nature.

Exec Allen to leave Raiders front office (http://www.timesstar.com/Stories/0,1413,125~11080~1873540,00.html)

If Allen doesn't end up in Tampa Bay, rumor has it he may pursue a job out of football. His brother, George, is a Republican senator from Virginia, and Bruce Allen has an interest in party politics.

Allen, whose title with the Raiders was senior assistant, handled many of the duties of a general manager. He managed the club's salary cap and negotiated player contracts.

The 2002 Sporting News Pro Football Executive of the Year, Allen worked as an agent before crossing the line into management at Davis' behest.

Allen's father, Hall of Fame coach George Allen, was a close friend of Davis.

Allen's background makes him uniquely qualified for working in a front office. He worked with his father in virtually every end of the business with the Rams and Redskins as a child and teenager.

At age 22, Allen was head coach at Occidental College, and by 25 he worked as general manager of the USFL's Chicago Blitz and Arizona Wranglers while his dad served as coach. His work as a sports agent gave him perspective on working negotiations from both sides.

There is also, in this write up, additional commmentary on Dennis Green......

If we want a new GM, we would first have to surgically remove Vinny's lips from Snyder's ass.
