i wasnt too sure why we were going after him in free agency, but the highlight film got me all excited(his hit on trung). i;ve been impressed with mccants since last year, so i wasnt as surprised. his td catch vs seattle with the helmet-to-helmet hit by a safety impressed me, otherwise i woulda said him.

I went for Darnerian McCants. Did not expect so many touchdowns from him this year.

Zellner. He was seen as just someone that filled a roster void, but he was our best defensive lineman this year, as sad as that is.

I selected Rock... he stepped it up.

I picked Dockery, at first I was suprised he didn't push Fiore for the starting job in camp. Then I was suprised by how he played when he got into the starting lineup. I was unpleasantly suprised with his ability to force fumbles on the one yard line though :(

I wasn't that suprised with Rock because I thought he could do big things since last year. I agree he stepped it up.

I'd give honorable mention to Holsey and Zellner though. They were bright spots on a horrendous D-line

I chose Dockery too. I wasn't surprised by McCants because I knew he was something special. I also knew the Rock was good also.

I thought Holsey was the most steady player on a below average DLine. He made some nice plays and actually had me saying "Dang Holsey...nice play" out loud while watching on TV. So he really did surprise me. I actually expected good things from Dockery. He did an excellent job as well once he got the chance though.

Rock. It's not like he ran for 1,000 but he did much more than most of us thought.

Dockery. Considering his falling stock during the draft and getting him in the third round and his early season struggles, I think he made huge strides towards the end of the season and gives the Redskins an excellent starting 4 of 5. He will look very good at LG for a long time, especially under Bugel's tutelage.

Went with Lennie at center! The other players in the selection I expected a certain level of play out of. Already love McCants and had read up on Derwreck when he was drafted. I thought Lennie played very well, very calm and there was much less confusion stemming from center even when you factor in the different schemes(Ram vs Tim). Would like to see him bulk up if he can, he's on the ground too much, but I realy like him and hope he makes the team next year as starter.

I think Ramsey, Cartwright and Bowen had overwhelming support to start the year. McCants just needed 50cent to remove his distraction. Friedman and Morton have been in the league a while doing the same. With Morton, I just think we were all pissed at the way he was gotten ( The comp pick from last year AND a 4th round from this year after the FO mistake ) As for the defensive linemen, whatever. The answer has to be Dockery. If memory serves me correct, no pick-up that has done well during the season was more bitched about. I know ALL the d-line pick-ups were lamented, but after this season of woe, I can't bring myself to complement a one of them.

Dockery was a big surprise. Low round pick who performed like a first rounder towards the end of the season.

I went with Morton. He ran the ball very well when he was given a chance. I didn't expect him to run that well.

I am going with Smoot (whether he is on the list or not). Stepped up his game this year and fought through injuries.

Stop it! Did you really think that I would vote for anyone else?

Listen, despite some of your (entitled and often correct) opinions, I like this guy.
He shoulda never had to of spend so much time tackling runners, but he stepped up and filled in.

Maybe next year he can concentrate on what he was hired to do, force fumbles and make interceptions!

I voted for Rock, he should have been used more, I really think he could of had made a better contribution to the team if thet gave the ball to him more often instead of trung "hit once and drop" candidate.

Though I think for a while Rock had some difficulty helping the QB w/ blocks?

The Dock, no doubt about it. He's turning out to be a fine thrid round draft pick. ....... A year or two with JB, this kids heading for the pro-bowl.

The Rock I just hope he sticks around.. I don't really see him as a Gibbs type fullback. A coach as smart as Gibbs will hopefully find a way to use him.

I chose Ohalete. He played solid all year, and after a lot of people in Redskins country blasted his 2002 performance.

I don't think there is truely a candidate that is worthy of this "award". I would have voted for a Hall, or Coles over these guys though. Coles had an entirely new system to learn, and had to anchor a staff of underachievers. He played 110% day in and day out. And he did it with QB's that were less than qualified, and or on thier backs all year.

The fact that Dockery is winning this poll shows us that we really didn't have a "surprise" player. Dockery was nothing special most of the year.

My vote is for McCants. I think he really stepped up and made plays. Especially for a guy who was going to be the #4 guy until Jacobs got hurt. He never gave Spurrier a reason to give Jacobs the # 3 receiver roll.

wow, I couldnt believe spurrier kept Dockery in there. I'm rather shocked to see so many people voted for Dockery...I thought he cost the Redskins a couple games with forcing fumbles and having false start penalties at the worst possible times...I hope he plays well next year but personally I thought he did terrible this season.

I agree with you, but he played better at the end of the season this making some forget about his horrid start. It's called the rookie forgiveness syndrome! hahaha.

it just really shows you about how there is no real candidate for "best surprise"

So how about this...the best surprise was firing Spurrier and hiring the legend!

I would say mccants because I thought he would get demoted at the begginig of the season when he was hurt. With Jacobs and Johnson in i thought they would steal his job.
